Happy Groundhog Day
The month of February is here. That means it is time for Groundhog Day. According to the custom, each year on February 2, Punxsutawney Phil, the figurehead groundhog of Punxsutawney, Pennsylvania, pops out of his nest. As he catches a glimpse of sunlight, he will either see his shadow and return to his burrow or he will stick around and enjoy the sunshine. A quick return to the home place signals an additional six weeks of winter while bask-ing in the sun announces an early spring (We southerners prefer the latter op-tion). The whole celebration of Groundhog Day centers around signs, with the behavior of a groundhog serving as a sign of future events. Do you know that "signs" are an important part of the Christian life? No, I am not alluding to circumstances that point to the fulfillment Bible prophecies. Instead, I am referring to certain signs in our lives that reveal the authenticity of our faith. Galatians 5:22-23 lays out these signs very clearly to us as it states, "Now the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control." Take a good look at these nine fruit or "signs" of a Christian. Think about what each one of them means. Think about how Jesus lived out each one. Then take inventory of your own life and ask if each of these virtues are present in your life. Consider how each one needs to grow and blossom in your life. Finally, realize that these signs are the fruit of the Spirit, the Holy Spirit. That means that these signs are actually produced by the Holy Spirit who lives in us. So, if we really desire to see this fruit more abundantly dis-played in our lives, then we need to pray and ask God to fill us with the Holy Spirit and produce this fruit. I have no idea if Punxsutawney Phil will see his shadow or not on Monday morning. Either way, I would love to see an early spring. More im-portantly, I would like for people to see in my life the signs that I belong to Jesus. I'm sure that is your prayer too. Stuart

Valentine's Day Sometimes Valentine's Day Isn't Happy
For some people, Valentine's Day is a painful reminder of a
broken relationship, the death of a loved one, a recent relocation, a chronic illness, or another life challenge. If you are going through a difficult time, our
Stephen Ministers can bring Jesus' love (God's "ultimate Valentine") back into
your life. Stephen Ministers provide confidential, one-to-one Christian care.
They will meet with you privately on a weekly basis to listen, support and en-
courage you, to pray with and for you, and to walk with you for the duration of your struggle.
To find out more about Stephen Ministry and how you or someone you
know could be matched with a Stephen Minister contact one of our Stephen
Ministry Leaders: Rosa Allred or Peggy Johnson.
Our Stephen Ministers are ready to care for you!

Scroll
A scroll may symbolize the writings of Scripture, par-ticularly the Old Testa-ment. In Luke 4, Jesus read
from the scroll of Isaiah in his home syna-gogue at Nazareth. A scroll may also sym-bolize the Day of Judgment, with the names of the elect, or saved, written on it. In Revelation 5, the creatures and elders around God's throne sing to Christ the Lamb: "You are worthy to take the scroll and open its seals, because you were slain, and with your blood you purchased for God persons from every tribe and language and people and nation" (v. 9, NIV).

Loves me not?
A girl asked a boy if he loved her, and he replied, “Yes, of course.”
“Would you die for me?” the girl wondered.
After a brief pause, the boy gave an honest answer, “No, mine is
an undying love.”
