Growing as Disciples of Jesus Christ Through Worship, Learning, Fellowship and Outreach The Messenger July 2014 OF TRINITY ANGLICAN CHURCH Welcome to our new Assistant Deacon Joe Lawrence By John Pryor We are delighted to announce the appointment of Deacon Joe Lawrence to the position of Assisting Rector – a role in Trinity Parish that includes: leadership of Trinitys Christian education and family ministries; Oversight of youth ministry and discipleship groups; participation in worship services; pastoral care; and parish administration. Many Trinity members will recall Dcn. Joe as he grew up in our parish while his father, (now) Bishop Mark Lawrence, was our Rector for seven years until 2004. During that time, Dcn. Joe helped our youth ministry as an intern and led a contemporary music group -- mostly guitars that kids love to play and sing along. He also helped facilitate Bible stud- ies and even did some teaching! Dcn. Joe commented, I am so grateful for the time I spent in this parish growing up. It was largely at this parish that I learned the scriptures, drank deeply from the Anglican way of worship, and matured in a community of disciples. Above all, this was the parish where I grew into a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ. His educational accomplishments have been extensive and impressive: He earned a bachelors degree in English Literature (with a minor in Philosophy) at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio in 2008. He earned a Master of Divinity from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA just this past month. His ordina- tion as a priest should occur in about six months. Dcn. Joe's ministry experience also has prepared him very well. He served in these capacities after moving from Bak- ersfield: Most recently -- 2012 to 2014 -- Youth Catechist, Adult Education, Sub Deacon, and Mission Mobilization at Grace Anglican Church, Edgeworth PA; Fall of 2013, Chaplain to a Hospice in Pittsburgh PA; Summer of 2013, adult education, preaching, and pastoral visitation at Parish Church of St. Helena, Beaufort SC; and 2009 to 2011, pastoral visitation, Liturgical Deacon, and leadership of community bible studies at Church of the Good Shepherd, Charleston SC. Dcn. Joe concluded, What an exciting opportunity it is to return to Bakersfield and Trinity Anglican Church! I great- ly look forward to working in this community of disciples and to building up more disciples of all ages. I am also very happy that my family, too, will know this parish as their home.We are very excited about having Dcn. Joe, Joette, and their three children, Samantha, age 5, Sophia, age 4, and An- drew, age 1, join us here at Trinity. His passion for family ministry, both in his own home and for the people of God, will be a tremendous blessing to our church family. Fr. Karls series on The Lords Prayer will resume in August

OF TRINITY ANGLICAN CHURCH

Welcome to our new Assistant

Deacon Joe Lawrence By John Pryor

We are delighted to announce the appointment of Deacon Joe Lawrence to the position of Assisting Rector – a role in Trinity Parish that includes:

leadership of Trinity’s Christian education and family ministries;

Oversight of youth ministry and discipleship groups;

participation in worship services;

pastoral care; and parish administration.

He also helped facilitate Bible stud-ies and even did some teaching!

Dcn. Joe commented, “I am so grateful for the time I spent in this parish growing up. It was largely at this parish that I learned the scriptures, drank deeply from the Anglican way of worship, and matured in a community of disciples. Above all, this was the parish where I grew into a closer relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ.”

His educational accomplishments have been extensive and impressive:

He earned a bachelors degree in English Literature (with a minor in Philosophy) at Franciscan University in Steubenville, Ohio in 2008.

He earned a Master of Divinity from Trinity School for Ministry in Ambridge, PA just this past month. His ordina-tion as a priest should occur in about six months.

Dcn. Joe's ministry experience also has prepared him very well. He served in these capacities after moving from Bak-ersfield:

Most recently -- 2012 to 2014 -- Youth Catechist, Adult Education, Sub Deacon, and Mission Mobilization at Grace Anglican Church, Edgeworth PA;

Fall of 2013, Chaplain to a Hospice in Pittsburgh PA; Summer of 2013, adult education, preaching, and pastoral visitation at Parish Church of St. Helena, Beaufort SC;

and 2009 to 2011, pastoral visitation, Liturgical Deacon, and leadership of community bible studies at Church of the Good Shepherd, Charleston SC.

Dcn. Joe concluded, “What an exciting opportunity it is to return to Bakersfield and Trinity Anglican Church! I great-ly look forward to working in this community of disciples and to building up more disciples of all ages. I am also very happy that my family, too, will know this parish as their home.”

RESTORATION ANGLICAN CHURCH Sharing Life, Following Jesus, Blessing Others

Last month I shared the Greenhouse Movement’s model for church planting through the lens of Luke 10:1-9. We saw the pattern of prayer, cultivating relationships with people of peace, and extending the healing and Good News of Jesus into the community.

Starting this month, we will begin establishing Restoration Anglican Church in Bakersfield. The “people of peace” we are called to cultivate relationships with are those in need, or already in the process of healing from addictions. This is in part because of our personal backgrounds, but also because there is a tremendous need, and with need comes the opportunity for blessing. Addiction affects us all and comes in many forms—not just drugs and alcohol.

We will begin by creating avenues of outreach to offer healing and to establish relationships, while continuing to build up our core team as we share life together rooted in Christ. The heart of this vision is to see lives restored through the Good News of God’s extravagant love in Jesus. It is this love that is the source of the healing we offer and the foundation of the community we are called to establish.

We cannot do this exciting new work alone, so we invite you to join us in praying for workers and resources in the harvest (Luke 10:2). If you would be willing to partner with us in prayer and receive updates, or would just like to learn more about Restoration, please send us an email.

In Christ’s Love & Service, Mark+

Family Camp with St. Paul’s Visalia at Camp San Joaquin

July 25-27

Last summer we were unable to get a large enough group to schedule our Family Camp. This year we have been invited to join St. Paul’s Visalia for their Family Camp. Camp San Joaquin is a comfortable, but rustic setting at 7,000 feet in the Sequoia Forest.

Cost: ages 12+ $120 for 2 nights and 6 meals ages 3-11 $60 (2 and under are free)

If you are interested in attending, contact Fr. Paul Gib-bons at [email protected]. Also check out the CSJ’s website www.campsanjoaquin.com.

Thank You!

Words cannot adequately express our family’s gratitude for the blessing it has been to grow as disciples of Jesus with you. Serving alongside Father Karl and all of you has rich-ly shaped and formed our family to take this exciting step of faith with Restoration. In a real sense, any fruit that flows out of our lives and ministry in the future will have Trinity to thank, for the roots of our faith were well-watered in fellowship with you. We are very thankful that as we set out to do this new work, we will remain a part of Trinity’s family. It will be a joy to continue to watch God clearly reveal his plans for Trinity’s future. May God con-tinue to richly bless each one of you. In Love and Gratitude,

Mark+, Michelle, Noah, Daniel, and Ali

Commissioning Service for

The Hall Family Sunday, July 13

We have been blessed by the presence and ministry of Fr. Mark and his family these past three years. It has been a great joy to work alongside them in the Lord’s harvest, and it is a great privilege to watch how our Lord is calling them into a new ministry adventure. Starting in July, Fr. Mark and Michelle will begin the first phases of Restoration Church here in Bakersfield. Until their ministry reaches the point of regular Sun-day worship services, we will still get to enjoy their presence with us here at Trinity. On Sunday, July 13, during the 11 am service, we will commission the Hall Family as they begin this excit-ing new ministry. It will be a time for us, as a Church Family, to say thank you to them, ask God’s blessing upon their new work, and join them in fellowship af-ter the service.

Congregational Architectural Meeting

Sunday, June 29th 12:30 p.m. Celebration Hall

The Architectural Committee is pleased to present early building design plans to the congregation for input! On Sunday, June 29th, after the 11 a.m. service, Klassen Corporation will be with us to present two concepts for a master-planned facility. Parishioners will then be given the opportunity to “mark them up” with suggestions and input. For those unable to attend the presentation, the con-ceptual drawings will be available in the office dur-ing regular business hours Monday, June 30—Thursday, July 3(8a-12p, 1-4p) and on Monday, July 7 (8a-12p, 1-4p). The office will be closed on July 4 in observance of Independence Day.

Welcome Reception for

The Lawrence Family Sunday, August 17th after the 11am service

Mark your calendars now and plan on being with us on Sunday, August 17th, as we formally welcome Dcn. Joe and Joette Lawrence and their family. Dcn. Joe begins as Assistant on July 1st and we want to give him some time to get settled into a new home and ministry before we formally celebrate their arrival!

FUTURE FACILITY UPDATE

Our fundraising firm, Dickerson Bakker and Associates, completed their preliminary readiness survey and is con-sulting with the Board to finalize plans for a Fall campaign. The results of the survey were very encouraging and we anticipate having details for the campaign schedule and goal soon.

The Architectural Committee has been meeting weekly with Klassen Corporation and will be ready to present ear-ly building scenarios to the congregation for input on Sunday, June 29, after the 11am service. For those unable to attend the presentation, input can still be given during office hours (8a-12p, 1-4p) through Monday, July 7th.

The Property Team is meeting in early July with Woodbridge Pacific Group to finalize a property agreement. We initially specified a need for 5 acres based on professional input given to the Preliminary Study Committee. After working with Klassen Corporation, we now know that we can build the needed facilities on three acres. The origi-nal site offered by Woodbridge Pacific Group was 4 gross acres (3 net acres). To extend the site for increased acreage, the price per acre more than doubles. Because the original acreage is sufficient and within budget, the Board has chosen to negotiate for the 3 net acre site and not to expand.
