It wasn’t long before the mother went up those

stairs to see her children and the condition of

their rooms. You know exactly what she found,

don’t you?

Dear members of King of Kings, Advent is a

time where the LORD calls to us through His

Word to prepare for His coming. If your heart

was like a room, what condition would the Lord

find it? Will you be one responding faithfully to

His call to worship or will you ignore Him? Will

you heed His call to share the truth and love of

the Messiah, Emmanuel? Perhaps you, or

someone you know, have been ignoring the

LORD for far too long. God is saying, “It’s time

for a change.” It’s time to get your room

clean...time to get your heart clean. The Season

of Advent is a season of repentance. It’s a time

where we humbly reflect on how the Lord Jesus

came to save His people, even the ones wasting

their time or those caught up in listening to the

voices of the world.

May we, as the Bride of Christ, respond

faithfully, hearing the call of Christ to come and

worship the LORD, loving Him with all our

Heart, Soul, Mind and Strength! May the LORD

develop in us Thankful Hearts that do seek to

prepare Him room.

With Advent Anticipation,

Pastor Jeff

POWER TOOLSPOWER TOOLSPOWER TOOLSPOWER TOOLS – “Working For the

Man Upstairs: Your Job... Your

Calling... Your Life!” Is it work you’re looking for or a chance to serve God? Can they be one and the same? Join us as we consider, “Working for the Man Upstairs”, the newest Men’s NetWork Bible study. See how our jobs-no matter what they might be-are a conduit through which God’s work is done in this world. You can check out more info online at: http://www.lhmmen.com We meet on Monday nights from 6:30 – 8:30 P.M. in the Youth Center throughout December, (but not Christmas Eve nor New Year’s Eve). Questions? Contact Mike Mosmeyer, David Palomo, Clancy Reagan, John Shear or Pastor Doria.

Human Care The Angel Tree is in the Narthex. If you would like to help out with a gift for a boy or girl, please take an angel. Please wrap the gift and put the angel tag on the outside of the package. Gifts need to be returned by Dec. 16. The menu and Christmas Basket sign up is in the Undercroft at the Information Center. Thank you for your support.

Reaching out in Love to Teens:

National Youth Gathering Many of our high school youth are preparing to

attend the National Youth Gathering next summer

here in San Antonio. At this time, the number of

youth from KOK planning to attend is about 15.

Because this event is a week long event with hotel

and food costs in addition to the great programming,

there is a hefty bill that is required. It is estimated

that each participant will need to raise ~ $1,000.00 to

attend this event. You have certainly heard of (and

probably participated in) some of their fundraisers,

but these only raise small amounts that are divided

among the mass group. Therefore, I’m encouraging a

different route; something more direct where we the

Church can more directly show our support for the

younger generation of faith and our leaders of

tomorrow while building intergenerational

connections.

The Board of Youth and Family will soon be offering

an opportunity for such direct support for these

teenagers. They are working out the details and will

soon come forth with the opportunity. Please

consider how you can show your support for these

young people and their families. Thanks for

considering!

Looking back…looking forward!

As we draw to the close of 2012, there is a lot to look back on in the year that was blessed by God and exciting new parts of the Music Ministry of King of Kings. From starting Fun Nights, and having about 50 come to each event, to having a Music Camp that was a weeklong adventure in preparing for the first ever musical shared at King of Kings, there have been great things that have happened this year! We’ve seen continued growth in participation, and those participating in Music Ministry have been challenged (and stepped up to the challenge) to grow as musicians! So what is on tap from 2012? We’re continuing our Fun Nights, starting with our first one on January 18th, featuring music shared by Kip Fox, a Lutheran worship leader and songwriter from Arizona. We’ll be having six of these Fun Nights, and look forward to God’s blessings in our fellowship! Plans are being made to bring Joshua Chai, director of choral activities at Concordia University, Texas, to come and lead our choir and others from the area in a Saturday workshop in February. In March, on the Tuesday of Holy Week, we’ll be having a presentation of music by our groups and the reading of the Passion story. We’ll be putting together a musical shared by our children’s and youth choirs, and then over the summer, during our Music Camp, we’ll be putting together the same musical, incorporating the assistance of our choirs in teaching the parts to those who participate in our camp! These are just a sampling of things that are anticipated for 2012.

How can you be involved? There’s plenty of ways to be involved. First by praying. Pray that God continues to give us volunteers willing to give of their time and talent to worship God. Second, consider financially blessing our Music Ministry at our fundraising events, or to give a contribution to bless and grow the Music Ministry of King of Kings. Finally, consider being involved with your time, and your talent to praise and worship God. There are plenty of opportunities!

For this upcoming month, there are two major events on the calendar. The first is the Children’s Christmas program on December 16th at 6:00 P.M. Special pre-service music will begin at 5:30. Come and encourage our young musicians! On December 23rd, in both Sunday morning worship services, we will have a Festival of Lessons and Carols. This will incorporate our Youth Choir, Chancel Choir, Praise Teams, Youth Handbells, King’s Ringers and instrumentalists, along with your voices! Come and share in a unique participatory event that will bless your Christmas celebration!

Craig Harmann

ECDC News

King of Kings Early Childhood Development Center would like to wish everyone a Merry Christmas and Happy New Year. Christmas Program

We would like to invite you to our annual Christmas Program on December 7th at 6:30 P.M. in the Sanctuary. The children want to be a blessing to others by singing some Christmas Songs and sharing the story of Jesus. Teacher Appreciation

Our Teachers work very hard all day and have such a big responsibility. They do so much for so little. They help in spreading the Love of Jesus and they are busy planting the seed of Jesus into each child’s heart. Help me in acknowledging them and showing our appreciation to what they do for King of Kings. The ECDC is asking for monetary and gift donations for game prizes to give to the teachers at King of Kings as a small token of appreciation at our Christmas Staff Party. If you are interested and able to give, please call 210-656-6509 or e mail Savannah Mendoza at [email protected] for information of how you can help. King of Kings ECDC is representing for our

District!!!

As some of you may already know each year the Early Childhood Development Center attends the Early Childhood Educators conference. The LCMS TX District hosts the event and every 4 years we have the opportunity to plan and put together a conference for all of the educators. The Early childhood conference is set for January 10th, 11th,

and 12th in San Marcos, Texas at the Embassy Suites. This is a yearly 3 day conference where approximately 800-900 early childhood teachers from Texas District LCMS churches and schools attend. These teachers come from all over the state of Texas to reenergize and enjoy some teacher from nationally well know teachers and speakers. This year the San Antonio area Texas District LCMS churches and schools are leading and coordination the conference. The teachers of King of Kings ECDC are the committee chairs for the conference door prizes. We would like to invite anyone who would be willing and able to donate a door prize for the conference. The goal is for every teacher to leave the conference with at least one door prize. This is a great opportunity for the teachers to leave felling appreciated and honored. All door prizes are asked to be turned in by January 6th or earlier. Please contact Savannah or Heather at 656-6509 if you are interested in donating any items. Thanks! Here are a few suggestions for Door Prizes:

All sorts of teacher resource material for their class.

Pampered “goodies” for teachers. i.e. perfumes, manicure sets, makeup, etc.

Nationally known gift certificates (teachers come from all over Texas)

Stationary C.D.’S (Personal and for the classroom) Quilts, Blankets T-Shirts

These are just suggestions.

Stewardship

“And it came to pass in those

days that there went out a decree from Caesar Augustus…” is the way Luke’s account of the Christmas story begins in chapter two (KJV). That decree caused Mary and Joseph to travel to Bethlehem, the city of David, where Jesus was born according to ancient prophecy. God’s timing is perfect as He carries out His will. Galatians 4:4-5 reads, “But

when the time had fully come,

God sent His Son, born of a

woman, born under law, to

redeem those under law, that we

might receive the full rights of

sons.” (NIV) God’s promises are true and find their “amen” in Jesus. Throughout the Old Testament, God inspired His prophets to write down many promises of a Savior. The faithful people of God believed His promises and were saved by that faith even though they had not seen the Savior with their own eyes. They lived before Christmas and we live after Christmas. We also have not seen Jesus with our own eyes and yet, by the miraculous power of the Holy Spirit, we believe that on that first Christmas Christ took on Himself our human form. He kept the law perfectly for us, preached the good news of salvation, performed countless miracles and then offered Himself up as the

precious Lamb of God who takes away the sin of the world, ours included! Christmas is a very joyous occasion as we celebrate our Lord’s first coming into the world but we also know that the shadow of the cross already hovered over the manger where the baby Jesus was laid. He was born to die in our place so that the door to heaven will be open to us and all who believe in Him as our only true Lord and Savior. As Christian stewards we live in the light of the Gospel and freely and joyfully manage all of life and life’s resources for God’s purposes. God offered up His best for us and in response we strive to offer our best to Him. During this joyful Christmas season, we have many opportunities to show our love for God by showing love to all the neighbors He has placed around us, especially those who have special needs of body, soul and spirit. May God help us to use our gifts of time, talents, skills and financial resources to His glory and the welfare of those around us. May He especially help us to be like the shepherds and spread the good news of salvation in Christ alone!
