A child living in Pioneer times worked much harder than most children do today.  Read the following prompt about

the chores a Pioneer child would have completed on a daily basis:

Now that you're finished reading, it's time to show me what you've learned!  Click here to print out a Venn diagram.  Using this diagram, compare and contrast the chores you complete in your life to chores a Pioneer child may have

Children living in Pioneer times also played many games that you do not play today.   Likewise, an Xbox 360 or a

Nintendo Wii would have looked like a spaceship to people living in those times.

Click here to learn about different games Pioneer children (and even adults) played.  When you are done reading,

choose 5 games that you would like to play with some of your friends.  Try to choose games that you are not familiar

with and have never played before!

On a white sheet of paper, write directions for how you play each game you chose in your own words.  Also make

a list of materials you will need to play the games with your friends.  The next time you have nothing to do, try playing

some of these vintage pastimes.

People living in pioneer times also ate different foods that you eat in modern times. Read through the following

prompt about different things people ate:

Now that you're a Pioneer food expert, you have some work to do!  Imagine you're opening your very own restaurant and you plan to serve food that is similar to the food pioneers ate.  Use the document below to create entrees, drinks, and desserts for your restaurant.  Either type your menu in using a word processing program like Microsoft Word or print out the menu and write your food/drink items by hand.
