    Russ Crowley's wrestling c a r e e

star ted when he was in the fo u ~ t h

grade. During his seventh and eighth

grade years he was undefeated, win-

ning 16 matches, all by pins. He took

first place in six different tournaments.

As a freshman he wrestled varsity,

compiling a 9-2-0 dual meet record. He

won second place in the sta te meet a t

112 pounds. In the 120-pound class dur-

ing his sophomore year, he compiled an

11-1 dual meet record. The one loss

came through a forfeit due to an injury

    he sustained du ~ i n g he f irst match of

the season. He placed second in the Cas-

per Tournament, first in the Cheyenne

Tournament, and won the State Title.

    Including tournament matches, his

overall hig h school record is 31 wins an d

seven losses. He won 3 of them by

pins. He will be a junior th is seaso n,

    wrestling in the 120-pound class.

In addition to wrestling, Russ plays

football. His freshman year was cut

short due to a broken collarbone. Play-

ing junior varsity ball his sophon~ore

year, he was the leading tackler. This

    Russ Crowley

season he played firs t st rin g middle

linebacker. He again was the leading

tackler, averaging 14 tackles per game.

His family consists of his mother and

two older brothers, Gary and Larry.

Gary is presently serving in the armed

forces in Viet Nam. Larry will be sen-

ior a t Niobrara County High School. He

also is a wrestler. He placed third in

the state during his sophomore year and

won the state title last season. During

the 1965-66 wrestling season Larry com-

    piled an 18-1-1 record.

    An interesting s i d e 1 g h t to Russ'

wrestling career is th at he has only been

taken down four times. This in face of

    t he fa ct t ha t he wa s born a c u t e l y

pigeon-toed. He wore braces and correc-

    tive shoes for many years.

With his determination and ability he

should be an excellent candidate f or the

state title his junior and senior years.
