Fun with Fact Families
Each card has three numbers on it. The number at the bottom is the sum of the two numbers above it. You can cut and glue the "fact family house" (below) to hide one number at a time. Place a stack of fact family cards in the house, say the missing number on the card, then pull the card off the stack and go on to the next card. At any time, you can move the position of the house so that it is hiding a different side of the cards. You can use these numbers to create addition problems or subtraction problems.
Use these cards to quiz yourself or play with friends and family members. See
how many different addition and subtraction sentences you can make!

Keep a journal of things you do during this time off from school. Go to the park and make a list of the animals that you see. Count how many different animals are on your list. Ask you parents about how things were when they were in first grade. Ask your family to teach you a new game, like chess or card games. When in the car, try to see how many different license plates you can find. Write down each one you see. Read to your family. It doesn’t even have to be a book! It could be street or store signs, a menu in a restaurant, or even the comics in the newspaper! Count how many cars of each color that you see when you’re driving somewhere. Keep a tally chart of this and then make a graph when you get home. Play outside on a nice day. Read inside on a rainy day.
