UNIT 1: FRIENDSHIP
Period: Writing1.Class description : 22 students of grade 11, (22 girls.)
2.Time : 45 minutes.
3.Objectives :
- By the end of the lesson, Ss will be able to write a paragraph to describe
people s hair, height, body type, age, face and accessories by using some
common words and phrases. Besides they will be able to select some most
impressive features to highlight the appearance or character of a person
* Useful language to describe physical characteristics:
+ Body type: fat/chubby/thin/slim/average
+ Height: tall/medium/short/ave rage
+ Face: square/ large/oval/round .
+ Hair: long, short, curly/straight/black/blond/red+ Forehead: broad/ high.
+ Nose: straight/ crooked.
+ Eyes: big/ small
+ Accessories: glasses, earring, jewelry
+ Appearance: handsome, beautiful, and good- looking..

4. Assumed knowledge : Ss may have known some basic information about
writing a paragraph and some vocabularies to describe someonescharacteristics and personalities.
5. Anticipated problems :
- Ss may forget how to describe a person or how to write a paragraph to
describe a person; hence, teacher will give them some useful words and
structures.
- Ss may get confused about the way words and structures are used; therefore
teacher will provide them with a sample to analyze.
- Ss can be worried about their mark; so teacher will let them know that the first
version will not be marked and they will write second version at home which
their friends have checked.
6. Teaching aids: Students book, handouts, and projector.
7. Procedure:
Teacher .*Warm-up activity : (5 minutes)
- hold a game named guessing who?
- First, teacher will ask Ss if having any student
volunteers to do the game. If not, she will call Ss
randomly to go to the board. The one in the board has to
think of a person in the class and then the whole classwill ask her some yes or no questions such as:
+ Is the person a girl?+ Is she tall?+ Is she short-sighted?+ Is she friendly? ...

I. Pre-writing
1. Useful words and structures to describe
characteristics and personalities. (7 minutes)
- After the warm-up activity, teacher asks students about
words that they learned to describe people when they
were at grade 8 and then provides Ss with somestructures and useful words to describe characteristics
and personalities.

characteristics:

2. sample analysis (3 minutes)
- After providing Ss some useful words to describe
physical characteristics and personalities, teacher
will deliver a good writing sample which describe
a person and then ask Ss to work in pair to
analyze the paragraph and then highlight some
useful words and structures.
- After spending time for Ss to work in pair to
analyze the sample paragraph, teacher will check
with the ss.
3. Make an outline for topic : (5 minutes)
Write about your friend or your teacher who
you like most
Ex: who is she/he?
-How old is he/she
-where does he/she live?
-where and when you met her /him?
-physical characteristics (height, face, eyes, hair,clothes)

III. After you write. (10 minutes)- After that, students exchange their writings for
their classmate to check.
- After that, Ss will take back their writing papers
and write second draft and teacher will collect and
assess them at the next lesson
8. Homework:
- Write a paragraph to describe a person you admire
most (150 words)
- Write quickly
within 15 minutes
- Exchange theirwriting
- Give their
comment for the
writing paper of
other students.
