As students we often read stories, articles, essays and a whole variety of texts. And from time to

time, we are asked to produce some kind of written work which is painfully read by our teacher

who is ready to dissect it in the search of mistakes, and only occasionally reluctantly read by some

of our classmates as part of some kind of peer correction activity. And then, most of our

production ends up being lost and forgotten in some dusty folder.

It is as part of a desperate fight for the recovery of these pieces of work that this portfolio was

thought. Therefore, you will find the very best work produced by senior 4 students at Institute San

Cristobal this year in these pages. Throughout the present year students worked in the production

of different pieces of writing in English as a foreign language. Here is a selection of the best pieces,

which were not only selected but also improved and edited ad hoc in order to be included in this

collection.

Students have presented their work under a pen name, so the challenge for you as a reader is to

recognize some writer by his or her style. In order to help you most of the students have included

a short biography, although you should be aware of the fact that many biographies are not true to

reality. As most of the work is fictional, any similarity with reality, we must say, is a mere

coincidence. Besides, we do apologize for any information that may not be accurate, and we do

hope you enjoy reading our work as much as we have enjoyed writing, editing and publishing it.

Any comment that will help us improve on our future work will be most welcomed.

I'm Paula Cargo; I have 16 years and Study at school San Cristobal. My hobby is artistic gymnastics

at the Club Atletico Velez Sarsfield. I'm a gymnast of the Argentinian team.

1. Slovenia

I'm a tourist, and I visited the city of Slovenia, Belgica. The city is beautiful, very clean and tidy, It

has a green forest and hills. Its climate is continental, very cold in winter and hot in summer, also

has a great river the Drava located in southern Central Europe.

The city is very interesting and has a long history, is very interesting, in the center you can find

shopping center, bars, restaurants and the central square is a large area north of a another river

with a big bridge at its center is one of the most significant plague columns across Europe.

Close is one of the most important symbols of Maribor, the castle that appears on the shield of the

city. The landscape is beautiful with big mountains in winter. It is a good place to go skiing, you can

climb the mountain by a conveyor. I have known this city due to competitions, and for me it is cute

and interesting.

My name is Helen. I am 16 years old and live in Buenos Aires, Capital Federal.

2. The Guise of Love

Kris Steward, 25 years old, she is a multi-millionaire thanks to the films she has made during her

career. Her boyfriend is Rob Pattins, another well known actor. The scandal was uncovered when

he learned that he had been deceived by the young actress.

Kris is very famous in Hollywood. The film that took her to the top was Twilight, where she

met her ex-boyfriend Rob, who also participated in several films but none gave the leadership that

Twilight gave them. They attract the attention of teenagers and have several fan clubs.

The relationship broke down when he learned, through images that came out in a

magazine, that Kris had deceived him. He felt really betrayed, because he trusted his girlfriend. For

this reason, he decided to end the relationship. She apologized through the media and she said

she loved him. But he could not forgive her for what had happened.

My pen name is “Sir Hovell” and I have been studying English for seven years, I´m seventeen years

old and I study at San Cristóbal high school. My favorite subjects are English and civic education

despite not having the second one this year.

3. Luxurious Holidays

Dear relatives,

As you know, I went to Uruguay last week. Now I´ll tell you through this e-mail how things are

going here. First, the guided tour´s chief took us to the different parts of Montevideo´s city, the

newest part on the one hand and the oldest ones on the other hand.

After that, we went to Punta del Este beaches in the morning and to a restaurant at night.

At this moment we are having breakfast and getting ready to go to the beach again. And then I´m

planning to go to a supermarket, so I can buy some food because I don´t like the food here.

Despite of the food, everything here is very charming and prepared specifically for the

tourists. Uruguay is definitely an excellent option if you want to get distracted. I´m going to spend

here two weeks more and then I´m going to return to Argentina with some presents for you.

I'm Susan Wolf. I have works written in different languages from the beginning of my career and honorable awards. As always I repeat, I love my job!

4. Paris Hil Crashed. Hollywood. 29 year-old. Multi millionairess Paris Hil crashed on Saturday in a taxi. She was coming back from a party.

Paris is a scandalous person. Her news only deal with alcohol, drugs and problems. She had spent the night with her friends at a well-known disco and very exclusive one.

Neighbours of the neighborhood where the accident happened said they saw the celebrity drunk. ‘She was really drunk and out of control’, a neighbour said. ‘Could have happened something a lot worse because of her indiscretion.’

At around 5.30 am, a Los Angeles police car was on the scene. Paris was arrested and was charged. She stayed at the station till about 2.00 pm.

‘I had drunk too much and I was out of control’, said Miss Paris Hil in the night. She admitted her terrible mistake.

The next day many Paparazzi surrounded the home of the celebrity. They wanted evidence about what had happened. But Paris did not speak to any media.

passions are volleyball and music. My two loves are my dog Lola and my cat Ciro.

5.The Historical Institute

The Felix Fernando Bernasconi Palace in Parque Patricios, Buenos Aires was founded in 1931 and

was converted into an institute.

The property was bought by Bernasconi, who then turned it into a school. The museum

was founded by Rosario Vera Penaloza.

The Bernasconi Institute is unique not only for its constructive aspect, but also for the

quality of its education. In it coexist different types of schools, such as a primary one, one for

adults, a music school. The school for the development of teachers also uses its facilities for its

postgraduate courses.

Three years ago you could visit the museum. Also it has four different schools, two

swimming pools, the eating room, a large theater, two courts, and also a kindergarten.

This school is used for public events, such as a performance in honor of the Metropolitan

Police. It is also used for advertisements and movies.

Thousands of students from different places attend classes there. It has received the prize

for the best state school.

For generations, families have relied on this institute.

∞ I am Zoe Taylor. I was born in Argentina in 1995. I am seventeen years old. I Iive in Canada with my father Tom Taylor (forty two years old), my mother Zara Smith (forty years old) and my brother Connor Taylor (nineteen years old).

6. “The Costanera Sur, Puerto Madero and The Woman’s Bridge”

Historically, the Costanera Sur is very important, because there is the Woman’s Bridge, which is very important and it is visited by many people and my many tourists.

The Costanera Sur is in Puerto Madero. In Puerto Madero, there are many buildings, many restaurants, and many hotels, like The Hilton, The Faena, and The Hyatt.

The Woman’s Bridge was built in honour of women, because women are very important. Puerto Madero, the Costanera Sur and the Women’s Bridge, are very important, because

they are historical. ∞

My name is Taylor Jones, I’m 19 years old. I was born on August 27 1993 in Bogota Colombia. When I was 15 years old, my mother married an Argentinean and that is why my sister and me moved to Buenos Aires. I study at the Institute San Cristobal.

7. The Scandal of the Year The famous protagonist of the Twilight Saga Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stewart are gong through a crisis since she cheated on him, with the director of Snow white & the Huntsman, Rupert Sanders.

Last month Kristen Stewart was seen and photographed by paparazzi, when they were together in a romantic attitude. Then they were into Kristen’s car where they kissed and caressed. After that they left.

The next day, the magazine us! Weekly showed the photographs. When the photos came to light, Kristen sent a public communication: “… I’m deeply sorry for the pain and embarrassment I’ve caused to those close to me and everyone affected. This momentary indiscretion has jeopardized the most important thing in my life, the person I love and respect the most, Rob. I love him, I love him, I’m so sorry…”, the actress said.

When Rob knew the news, he was very angry and he left the house where he lived with her.

But after so many speculations about whether Robert would forgive Kristen, this rumor has been confirmed. Last month the couple was seen together in Kristen’s new house, where they kissed.

∞ I’m Marian Aachboun. I’m eighteen years old. I was born on November 11th 1994 in Bogota Colombia and three year ago I came to Buenos Aires, Argentina. I like listing to music, playing volleyball, dancing and mainly photography.

8. Wife Left Him Out

Barbara Smith, recognized top model, married Jack Duncan three year ago. She got angry with him after watching his TV program.

It all started due to a guest in his TV program who was very provocative. She had many tattoos, and a special one which was close to her bottom.

Barbara Smith wrote angrily in twitter “Today you do not sleep at home”. Jacob Duncan unaware of this went on with his program. When he got home he found the door locked and the lights off. Jacob called his wife, but instead of answering she was writing about everything on twitter.

Finally he ended up sleeping in his car, uploading a photo from his twitter account where he is seen in the back of his car.

The TV´s program producer spoke about the incident. The couple has been invited to different gossip programs. They have given interviews, even though they have made it up, they were separate for work. However, they are very well together.

dancing and videogames. I live in Argentina, Buenos Aires, Capital Federal, and was born on

24/10/94.

9. Temple of Buenos Aires

The Bombonera is the most recognized soccer stadium in Argentina. It was built in 1905 and is one

of the most important stadiums of the country. The football stadium belongs to the Boca Juniors

soccer team.

Diego Armando Maradona was the best player of Boca, widely recognized in the world.

The stadium’s capacity is 50.000 people. Fireworks are prohibited in the place and cutting

elements also.

When I went to the candy box for the first time I was surprised since the place is very

large. And it was beautiful that day of my life and I hived a unique and unforgettable experience.

Also in the stadium, I felt an adrenaline rush, running out of voice singing, jumping, screaming,

feeling what you feel being part of the team with the biggest number of fans in the country and

the world.

My name is Aria Fields. I am 17 years old. I practise arabic dance, go skating and am

learning to play the guitar. I like going out with my friends and going to the beach. I talk a

lot and sometimes I'm in a bad mood but I am a good person.

10. A Little Break in Paradise

Subjet: I miss you

Hello! Having a funny time here. Went skating yesterday and saw a movie at the cinema. The

places are fantastic, specially the port, it’s very nice. I ate the typical food, which are empanadas.

They’re rich, very rich. The hotel is very comfortable and I don’t like the service but it’s good. I will

go to guitar lessons and it’s difficult for me to learn. But I like it so much all my life I have wanted

to learn to play this instrument.

Here in Mar del Plata the people are friendly and intelligent. I`ll buy some strange and beautiful

present for you. I miss you so much, my friend. You should travel here. These holidays were

fantastic. I am going to come back here to Mar del Plata. This place is relaxing and very quiet. It’s

natural. I love this place. I like it so much.

Here's a great time and it is very good for me because I get distracted on the beach and I have

plenty of time to do the things I like doing, and also go to the mall to buy the clothes I like. Well,

just wanted to remind you that I miss you and we would have to spend our next holidays together

here because it is a beautiful place.

Yesterday I went to the shopping centre,it’s very big and modern.But, it’s very expensive. Anyway, I could buy a lot of things.

Now, I’m sitting in a Starbucks drinking a chocolate frapuccino. The people in Miami are very friendly and happy.

Tomorrow, I’m going to visit Disneyland, I loved Disney when I was young.I like all the characters: Mickey, Donald, etc. I ‘ll take a lot of photos. In the night I’m going to visit “the Hard Rock Cafe” and then, I’m going to listen to the U2`s concert.

12. Sports Holidays

Hi Rober, Hi! Having a lovely time here. I went and played footbol yesterday – Beautiful fields. As for the gnocchi, they are very rich and I like coke. Natalia loves that, of course! Tomorrow we’re going to walk by the sea and take something good with it that I love. I’m so in love with her and I have thought about getting married very soon. All my friends are invited!! In a few days I’m going to Japan with my love and I am going to study Japanese. Also I have thought about Portugal, Brazil and Spain, I love traveling! Jaja. I love Patrick and he is very nice to me. I will see and visit the 5to avenue and I am going to buy lots of clothes. When I am back you will meet him. There is a photo of us on the beach.
