Writing Task Part 1 - Book Cover Review

Take a careful look at each of the three different book covers for James and the Giant Peach by Roald Dahl. Which one is your favourite and why? Think about the following:

- Similarities and differences - Title - Font size, style and colour - Background pictures - Visual effects – illustrations - Authors and illustrators’ names - Are there any characters featured? - Are there any key symbols or images? - Is there anything eye catching or interesting that you have found?

Your Task

In your workbooks, write a paragraph comparing and describing why you have chosen either book cover: A, B, or C as your favourite and explain why. Please include creative adjectives and expanded noun phrases in your paragraph (remember this should be at least half a page of A4).

Part 2: Film Cover VS Book Cover?

Now you have completed Part 1 of the task, your mission is to now compare your favourite book cover to the film cover for the novel; James and the Giant Peach, featured below.

Think about the following questions to help you:

1. What is similar? 2. What is different? 3. What makes them both eye-catching? 4. Which one do you think is most effective and why?

You should now write a second paragraph in your workbooks to complete Part 2 of this fun task!
