Teacher Notes: WritingChecklist Bookmarks

The writing checklist bookmarks are available

in black and white and color. There are fivedifferent types of bookmarks. Eachbookmark contains a checklist of writingskills. The bookmarks are scaffolded. Each

bookmark builds on the skills found on the previous bookmark.Mount the bookmarks on card stock. Provide each student with abookmark that matches their current level of development inwriting. Students use the bookmark to ensure that they haveincluded the different aspects of writing in their sentences.

Writing Checklist Bookmark AThe first bookmark focuses on three basic skills in writing asentence:

- using capitalization,- using punctuation, and- writing a complete thought.

Writing Checklist Bookmark BThe next bookmark adds spelling to the other skills on bookmark A.

Writing Checklist Bookmark CAdded to this bookmark is the use of interesting words and using 6or more words in a sentence.

Writing Checklist Bookmark DThis bookmark is the same as C except the have words that arespelled correctly is removed.

Writing Checklist Bookmarks EThe last bookmark is a template that can be tailored to the uniqueneeds of your students. Use this bookmark to target skills that youwant to focus on with your students.
