Writings on Irish history, 1958

T he following list includes books and articles on Irish history in which the year 1958 is given in the work itself as the date of

publication. It excludes current works of reference, parliamentary publications, writings on contemporary politics, and items in newspapers; articles of a purely derivative character; reports of archaeological finds and literary and linguistic studies, presented without reference to their historical context. The inclusion of an item does not imply any judgment of its value. Reviews or short notices of many of the items listed will be found in this journal. A selection of reviews published elsewhere which make original contributions to their subjects has been included.

'Writings on Irish history, 1958' has been compiled by Miss Esther Semple, B.A., and Desmond Kennedy, M.A., in cooperation with the biblio- graphical sub-committee of the Irish Committee of Historical Sciences. The compilers gratefully acknowledge the collaboration of Mr Laurence McCaffrey, St Paul, Minnesota, for valuable information concerning publications on Irish history in the U.S.A.
