New Americans’ Perspective• Traumatized from war and violence, cultural shock &
barrier, language barrier, low to no income, new to the US system.
• Trust in government is very low. • Recreation in the community center, parks and nature
is a very western concept, so accessing and navigating recreation services are very challenging.
Why Partner with Sunday Parkways?Recent immigrants and refugees are not “needy” people—they are
valued partners in the fabric of the society. They pay taxes. Contribute to the local economy. Highest believer of American democracy. Can vote. Engaged & active within the community They are the assets not the burden.
As settled Portlanders, it’s our responsibility to create a sense of belonging to their new home, Portland.
Shared futures for all Portlanders. It’s good for city’s future too.Establishing public policies and best practices that serve newcomers
and therefore the whole community is a long-term investmentEquity for ALL means including refugees and recent immigrants too.
