Ms. Peckat was born June 7, J.951 in Michigan City, IN. She was a graduate of Michi­gan City's Elston High School. clasi of 1969. She served in the t)nited States Air For:,ce fr~m February 1972 through Novem· ber 1976 and was honorably

·discharged at the r3nk of staff sergeant. She served in Texas. Washington DC, California and Englari:d. She was graduated 'fi~m 'the University of Mary­Jan~ in 1980 With a BS degree in Biomedical Science .

Ms. Peckat Was employed at the Veterans Affairs Hospital, Washington DC, as a medical technologist 'from December 1992 until July 1996, when she

~went on medical leave for health reasons. She had worked in the same field at a number

·· of Washington DC hospitals since 1977.

She was an outdoors person as well as an avid environmen­talist and actively participated in the Save the Chesapeake Bay effort. She supported t.he Audubon Society of Prince George ·s and their efforts to

"Betty" Lowdermilk. 69, of Lakeside North, died of cancer on Friday, March 2i. ·

Mrs. Lowdermilk moved to Greenbelt around 1971. Ac­cording to her daughter, Mrs. Lowdermilk enjoyed living here. She never missed a La­bor Day Festival, attended con­certs at .the Lake Park. played bingo at St. Hugh's and at the Fire Department. She liked to walk her dog. Mandy. around the lake.

A ~ember of Telephone Pio­neers of America, she worked for the telephone company for 47 years. retiring five years ago.

She is survived by son Irvin Michael Lowdermilk, daughter Debra Olivia Pitts, son-in-law David H. Pitts, close lo-ving friend Andrew· J. Karkos, three grandchildren and five great grandchildren.

Services were hel~ at Gasch 's Funeral Home on Tues­day, March 25. Interment was at FL. Washington Cemetery.

Earl C. Robey Earl Courtney Robey. 70. of

M and.an Road died on Friday, March 21, of heart failure.

A maintenance engineer for serlior citizen buildings, Mr. Robey worked in buildings in different parts of M~ryland. in­cluding Emerson House and a facility in Baliimore. He also was sent to Pennsylvania ~hen a new building. Trinity House, was opened. He and his wife had lived in Greenbelt for fOur years. Mr. Robey .served from 1945 to 1947 in the L'nited States Army.

He is survived by his w~fe, Helen, Of the home address. sons Kenneth E. Robey, Ronald L. Robey, Ge.rald C. Robey, and Terrance C. Robey~ d;.lUghters Beverly A. Blanton and Sheila R. Sullivan; sisters Sylvia Bean and Ruth McPherson; 21 grand­childr~n and 16 great-grandchil­dren.

A memorial service was held Tuesday, March 25 at the First A-lliance Chul-ch, Silver Spring.

Barry has had 25 years of service with the Volunteer Fire Depart: ment.

Of all his interests, the Greenbelt Fire Department was the most important to him. After he hurt his leg in an apartm·ent fire in Springhill Lake in 1975. he turned to administrative duties and was the department's secre­tary for man,y years. He has been a member for 45 years.

He was also an associate member of the Fraternal Order of Police, Lodge #32. of Greenbelt and a member of th~ Greenbelt American Legion, Post #136.

Funeral services were held at St. Hugh's Catholic Church on Monday. March 24 with inter: ment following at the Greenbelt Cemetery. A luncheon was held for friends and family by the La­dies Auxiliary of the fire depart­ment.

A memorial tree will be planted in elreenbelt by the Greenbelt High SchooL Class of '45. ,
