Fulbright Grants° Deadline: 8/22/2017 (WSU deadline for 2018-2019 Fulbright)

Supports one year of study, research, creative work, or English teaching in one of approximately 130

foreign countries. Applicants must be U.S. citizens with the majority of their undergraduate education in

the U.S., must meet country-specific language proficiency requirements, and must hold a bachelor's

degree by the beginning of the award. SENIORS, RECENT GRADUATES, and GRADUATE

STUDENTS may apply. At least 1,300 awards are granted nationwide. An institutional review and

interview process is conducted on campus for currently enrolled WSU students.

DAAD EMGIP Bundestag Internships

Deadline: 9/15/2017 (for 2018-19 internships)

Offers two-month-long internship opportunities in the German parliament. Applicants should be

advanced undergraduates (JUNIOR or SENIOR) or GRADUATE STUDENTS (excluding PhD students)

in fields such as political science, international relations, law, history, economics, or German. Applicants

must have strong German language skills, some knowledge of the German legislative process,

outstanding academic record and personal integrity, and must be U.S. or Canadian citizens or permanent

residents, or international students enrolled full time in the U.S. or Canada. Compensation is

Rangel International Affairs Program Graduate Fellowships

The Fellowship program seeks to promote diversity in the U.S. diplomatic corps. Supports two years of

graduate study in an approved two-year master’s degree program as preparation for a career in the

Foreign Service. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, must be SENIORS or recent GRADUATES with

outstanding academic achievement, leadership skills, and financial need, and must be seeking admission

Carnegie Endowment for Peace Junior Fellows Program

Supports one year of service at the Endowment in Washington D.C. Junior Fellows provide research

assistance to senior associates on international policy issues, participate in meetings with high-level

officials, contribute to congressional testimony, and organize briefings attended by scholars, activists,

Supports one- to three-month internships in the German State Parliaments, in fall, spring, or early

summer. Applicants must be U.S. or Canadian citizens age 30 or younger, and must be JUNIORS,

public administration, political science, law, economics, or European studies. Eligibility requires high-

Recognizes academic excellence, leadership experience, and involvement in campus and community

affairs of female college students. Applicants must be full-time students in 2017-2018 academic year

with outstanding accomplishments in leadership and community involvement; citizenship is open.

Winners receive a $3000 prize, a trip to New York, a meeting with top female professionals, and

Gilman International Scholarships

Deadline: 10/3/2017 (for spring 2018 and summer 2018 Early Application); 3/6/2018 (for summer 2018

and fall 2018) For a semester, summer, or academic year of study abroad worldwide, for undergraduates with financial

need. FRESHMAN through SENIORS may apply. Awards are for up to $5,000, with the amount varying

depending on the length of study and student need. Gilman Scholars studying certain languages may also

apply for an additional Critical Need Language Supplement of up to $3,000. Applicants must be U.S.

citizens, must be Pell Grant recipients, and must be applying to or accepted by a study abroad program of

at least 4 weeks in length for which the University will award academic credit. The scholarship carries a

small service commitment. Over 2,300 Gilman Scholarships are awarded nationwide.

Fulbright-Royal Veterinary College, University of London Award

Deadline 10/06/2017 (for 2018-19)

The new award will support a one-year Master’s degree or higher research programme (or the first year

of a longer Master’s or higher research degree program) in any discipline at the Royal Veterinary

College. In this award category, the grantee will receive a full tuition fee waiver from the Royal

Veterinary College and a stipend of £14,300, which is intended as a contribution towards general

maintenance costs (accommodation, travel, subsistence, etc.) while in the UK. Applicants must be US

citizens not living in the UK and earn a bachelor’s degree in a relevant area before departure to the UK.

Fulbright seeks students with demonstrable ambassadorial skills with evidence of cultural sensitivity and

a genuine desire to learn more about the UK and share with British citizens aspects of American culture.

Critical Language Scholarships

Deadline: 11/2017 (expected for summer 2018 scholarships) U.S. government-sponsored scholarships support intensive summer language study in the critical need

languages: Azerbaijani, Arabic, Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Indonesian, Korean, Japanese, Persian, Punjabi,

Russian, Turkish, or Urdu, at approved language institutes abroad. Applicants must be U.S. citizens and

may be FRESHMAN, SOPHOMORES, JUNIORS, SENIORS, or GRADUATE STUDENTS. All fields

of study are eligible. Some institutes have language prerequisites, but many are open to beginners. All

Environmental Protection Agency, including ecology, economics, engineering, modeling, health

sciences, physical sciences, earth sciences, social sciences, information sciences, mathematical sciences,

computer sciences, and environmental sciences. SENIORS, GRADUATES, and GRADUATE

STUDENTS in the first year of Masters study or first four years of PhD study may apply. Applicants

must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with outstanding academic records in appropriate fields of

study, who have the potential to broaden the academic frontiers of protecting human health and the

American-Scandinavian Foundation Fellowships and Grants

Fellowships of up to $23,000 and grants of up to $5,000 to pursue research, study, or creative work in

one or more of the Scandinavian countries. SENIORS, GRADUATES, and GRADUATE STUDENTS

may apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents and must have an undergraduate

degree in hand by the beginning of the award period. Some projects may require proficiency in the

language of the host country; for other projects, proficiency may not be necessary but some ability in the

language is desirable. Graduate students planning dissertation research are given priority for the

Knowles Science Teaching Foundation Fellowships

Deadline: 11/1/2017 (expected for fellowships beginning fall 2018)

Supports beginning high school science and math teachers as they earn a teaching credential and through

the early years of their career (up to five years of financial and professional support). Up to $10,000 of

tuition assistance and stipends are available for full-time graduate school, as well as summer stipends and

funding for summer professional development. Obligations include successfully completing a teacher

credential program, obtaining a full-time teaching position within the area of certification, participating

in fellows' meetings, and submitting reports and portfolios. Applicants must be SENIORS or recent

GRADUATES who will earn a degree in physical or biological science, mathematical science or

engineering by summer 2011, plan to teach science or mathematics in a U.S. high school, and are

enrolled in, or plan to enroll in, an approved teaching credential program. Citizenship is open.

Fellowships are awarded based on content knowledge, commitment to teaching, ability to teach, and

Public Policy & International Affairs Fellowship Program (PPIA)

Deadline: 11/1/2017 (expected for summer 2018)

Provides training, mentoring, and financial support to encourage students, particularly those from

underrepresented groups, to pursue graduate study and careers serving the public good. Applicants must

be JUNIORS, U.S. citizens or permanent residents, with a demonstrated interest in public service, and

able to contribute to diversity of perspectives. Consideration is given to financial need. Fellows

participate in a seven-week Junior Summer Institute (tuition, books, housing, meals, and a $1500

minimum stipend are included) and receive a minimum $5000 scholarship for graduate study in public

policy or international affairs at a PPIA-affiliated institution (most top public affairs schools in the U.S.

are PPIA affiliates). Most PPIA Fellows receive additional financial assistance for graduate study.

Soros Fellowships for New Americans

Provides up to two years of support for graduate or professional school in the United States in any field

(up to $45,000 per year). Applicant must be a permanent resident, a naturalized U.S. citizen, or the child

of parents who are naturalized citizens, under 31 years old at the time of application, and must hold

bachelor's degree by the beginning of the award. Selection criteria include strong academics and

character traits such as creativity, originality, initiative, a capacity for accomplishment, and a

commitment to the values expressed in the U.S. Constitution and Bill of Rights. SENIORS,

Supports one year of work in Japan as either an Assistant English Language Teacher or a Coordinator of

international exchanges. Applicants must be SENIORS or GRADUATES, U.S. citizens, with a strong

interest in Japan and a functional command of the Japanese language. Also, applicants must not have

lived in Japan for six or more years since 2004. Applicants must have a bachelor's degree in hand by the

Malmberg Scholarship for Study in Sweden° Deadline: 11/15/2017 (for 2018-19 scholarships) Administered by the American Swedish Institute in Minneapolis, this scholarship provides up to $10,000

for up to a year of study or research in Sweden, with some attention to Swedish America or relations

between the U.S. and Sweden. FRESHMAN through SENIORS and GRADUATE STUDENTS may

apply. Applicants must have a working knowledge of Swedish language. The scholarship will not be

awarded for language study alone, although language study may be part of the proposal. Applicants must

establish an institutional contact in Sweden that can provide a letter of affiliation or invitation.

American Association of University Women (AAUW) International Fellowships°

Deadline: 12/1/2017 (expected for 2018-19 fellowships)

Supports full-time graduate study or research for women who are not U.S. citizens or permanent

residents, are completing or have completed an undergraduate degree, plan to pursue a U.S. graduate

program, and intend to return to their home countries to pursue a professional career. English proficiency

is required. Applicants must have demonstrated a commitment to the advancement of women and girls in

Boren National Security Education Program Scholarships Deadline: 12/1/2017 (expected WSU deadline for 2018-19 scholarships)

Supports a term or year of study abroad, for the purpose of equipping Americans with an understanding

of less commonly studied languages and cultures in regions critical to U.S. interests. NSEP emphasizes

the importance of language study as a major component of the study abroad program. Study of a foreign

language appropriate to the identified country must be an integral part of the proposal. Applicants must

be U.S. citizens with strong academic records, language and international interests. FRESHMAN through

SENIORS may apply for the undergraduate scholarships. (Boren Fellowships are also offered for

GRADUATE STUDENTS.) The scholarship carries a one-year service requirement. Approximately 150

Congress-Bundestag Youth Exchange for Young Professionals

Deadline: 12/1/2017 (expected for 2018-19 awards)

Year-long work-study program beginning in July provides opportunities for young adults to gain cultural

understanding, education, and professional experience in Germany. Applicant must be U.S. citizen or

permanent resident, age 18-24 at the start of the program, and HIGH SCHOOL, COLLEGE

(FRESHMAN through SENIOR), or GRADUATE STUDENT. Applicant must have coursework and

some practical experience relevant to the intended internship field. Exchange Program includes

classroom instruction and an internship experience and covers international and in-country travel,

university tuition, a living stipend, and accommodations with a host family or in a student residence.

Preferred fields include business, technology, engineering, and agriculture. All fields may apply. German

language proficiency is preferred but not required.

For 3-4 week summer courses at German universities, which focus mainly on literary, cultural, political,

or economic aspects of modern and contemporary Germany. Applicants must be SOPHOMORES,

JUNIORS, SENIORS, or GRADUATE STUDENTS with outstanding academic records; U.S. or

Canadian citizens or foreign nationals who have been full-time students at North American universities

for at least one year are eligible. Applicants must have completed at least 4 semesters of German or

natural sciences, or engineering. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or resident aliens and must

be SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS (or SENIORS planning an additional year) in the upper quarter of their

class. Selection criteria include outstanding academic performance and demonstrated potential for and

commitment to a career in mathematics, the natural sciences, or engineering. Undergraduate research

experience is highly valued. The scholarship pays up to $7,500 per year for up to two years.

Approximately 270 scholarships are awarded nationwide. Campus nomination is required; WSU may

National Institutes of Health Oxford-Cambridge Biomedical Research Scholars Program Deadline: 12/1/2017 (for support beginning fall 2018)

Supports graduate study leading to a PhD in the biomedical sciences through a partnership between NIH

and the Universities of Oxford and Cambridge. Students spend approximately half their time at the NIH

in Bethesda, MD and the other half at Oxford or Cambridge. Scholars may also pursue a combined

MD/PhD through one of NIH's American medical school partners. SENIORS and GRADUATES may

apply. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or permanent residents with outstanding academic records and

exceptional promise for a career in biomedical research, must have prior coursework in biology,

chemistry, physics, and mathematics, must have previous laboratory research experience, and must

complete an undergraduate degree prior to the start of the program. The award includes a stipend of

Truman Scholarships

Deadline: 12/1/2017 (WSU deadline for 2018 scholarships)

Awarded to undergraduates for graduate study leading to a career in government or elsewhere in public

service. Applicants must be U.S. citizens or nationals, must be currently enrolled JUNIORS in the upper

quarter of their class, and should have a strong record of service or activism and leadership, as well as

excellent communication skills. Truman Scholars receive up to $30,000 for graduate or professional

school and participate in a Truman Scholars Leadership Week in the summer after their junior year. An

optional Summer Institute in Washington D.C. is offered in the summer after graduation. The scholarship

carries a service obligation. 60-65 scholarships are awarded nationwide. Institutional nomination is

For undergraduates who are preparing for careers related to the environment and who have demonstrated

a commitment to environmental issues. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent

residents, currently enrolled SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS with GPA of 3.0 or higher, and of any

ethnicity. The scholarship provides up to $5000 towards undergraduate education. Scholars participate in

a Udall Scholars Orientation in Tucson, AZ in August. Approximately 50 Udall Scholarships (including

Environment, Tribal Public Policy and Native Health Care) are awarded nationwide. Institutional

Udall Scholarships (Tribal Public Policy/Native Health Care)

For Native American or Alaska Native undergraduates who are committed to pursuing careers related to

tribal public policy or native health care. Applicants must be U.S. citizens, nationals, or permanent

residents, currently enrolled SOPHOMORES or JUNIORS with GPA of 3.0 or higher, and must meet the

Udall Foundation's definition of Native American or Alaska Native. Approximately 50 Udall

Scholarships (including Environment, Tribal Public Policy and Native Health Care) are awarded

Homeland Security STEM Summer Internships

Deadline: 12/9/2017 (expected for summer 2018)

The U.S. Department of Homeland Security Science and Technology Directorate Office of University

Programs sponsors a 10-week summer internship program for students majoring in homeland security

related science, technology, engineering and mathematics (HS-STEM) disciplines. The program provides

Gilman International Scholarships
