    ABSTRACT

Increasingly historians have moved away from a history that chronicles

battles, treaties, and presidential elections to one that tries to provide animage of the way daily life unfolded for the mass of people: how theyworked, what they did for fun, how families were formed or fell apart, orhow the fabric of daily life was formed or transformed.

Film has an important role to play in these histories. While traditionalhistorical documents tend to privilege great events and political leaders, historians now use other records to discern the lives of "ordinary"

people: census records, accounts of harvests andmarkets, diaries and memoirs, and local newspapers.Film is perhaps more like these records of daily lifethan it is like the documents that recordgreat events. Motion pictures may provide

the best evidence of what it was like to walk down thestreets of Paris in the 1890s, what a Japanese teaceremony was like in the 1940s, what the World Series in1950 looked like, or how people in factories did their work or spent a

    Sunday afternoon in the park.

All of these subjects could be staged and distorted, of course, and filmcan be transformed in many ways. But as a record of time and motion, films preserve gestures, gaits, rhythms, attitudes, and humaninteractions in a variety of situations. In almost any film archive, and innumerous places on the Internet, one can glimpse images of simpleactions, from the way a Buddhist monk in Ceylon folded his robe in 1912

to the way people boarded trolley cars in New York City in the 1930s.While film shares much of this information with other forms ofdocumentation, especially still photography, motion pictures allowviewers to see and compare the everyday physical actions of peopleacross the globe and throughout the twentieth century. This is not todeny that film provides indelible images of some of the twentiethcentury's great events.

    INTRODUCTION

“As long as we continue to enjoy the peculiar sensation of gathering with abunch of strangers in a darkened theatre, film will still matter”

    - Geoff Lealand

Movies are a part of daily life and they reflect the exactness of real life. But atthe same time they make the audience isolate from reality, providinghappiness and great entertainment.

Film, in the generic sense, is the basis of all motion picture forms, and is themost pervasive form of communication and entertainment in the postmodern

    world.

Films matter because they can provide compellingand creative artistic and entertainment experiences for audiences. Some filmsare just fleeting entertainment but others are magnificent, wondrous, thoughtprovoking works of art – from seven minute Warner Brothers cartoons tohighly personal non-fiction films to dramatic features and musicals – and fromall parts of the world. In the age of the laptop and mobile smartphone, ‘film’ iseverywhere but cinematic film is still, at its best, extraordinary.

Cinema is the most complex and powerful art form in the present world. It canhelp us to better understand our own lives, the lives of those around us andeven how our society and culture operate. They can shed light on political andspiritual matters too and can provide catharsis and perspective and may openour eyes to new ways of thinking, feeling and pursuing our lives.

In this project, we have kept in mind about the classic movies which over theyears have achieved received a ‘Cult’ status. From the love story of

‘Casablanca’ to the most nail biting movie ever ‘The Exorcist’.

For this project, we have developed a movie based review site where userscan simply browse through the listings of popular movies across variousgenres, provide reviews, read reviews as well as read latest buzz.

To implement the designing of this website, external CSS (Cascading Style

Sheets) was used with the aim of achieving nice drop down submenus for the‘Genre’ section. Further, a similar style sheet was applied across variouspages.

PHP with a XAMMP server was used for providing a synthetic server to testout the capabilities of ‘Commenting Page’.

Javascript Codes were used to validate user data on the form for ‘Comments’page.

All the above pages, was engulfed in the usual HTML files.HTML was used as a base to create the overall site.

Various ‘div’, and ‘float’ tags were used to insert the images through the texts.

    ANALYSIS OF PROBLEMS

Problem 1: CSS Dropdown MenuCSS Dropdown menu creation was possible with UL – Unordered List andseparate lists.

Drop down menus are essential for a clean design layout with good, clearwebsite navigation. Good website navigation is vital. We would want yourvisitors to be impressed with our blog, and stay to check out all the goodiesyou have put there for them. The best way to do this, is to have good, clear,easy-to-follow navigation throughout your website. Using Drop Down Menusis an easy and effective way to do this.

Problem 2: PHP Implementation through phpMyadmin

Connection to the database was a hurdle because WAMP server requiredcreation of tables and connection with it, further page redirection was anissue.

Usage of header function was done which solved above issues.

    Future Scope Of Improvement

As the major emphasis has been made on users, a chat client for interactionwith various people would’ve been a good add-on.

    1. User can rate titles2. Chat Client3. Information about brilliant Television soaps

    4. Download options as well as purchase/rent

How have movies changed our lives ?

All around the world we watch many of the same films.

Good movies are not held back by language barriers. We will gladly read sub-titles if it's that great.

Although there might be some cultural tid-bits that are "lost in translation" -the big themes of human beings - the existential questions of mankind, areuniversal.

Film, uniquely of all art forms, combines virtually every other art form into thisone thing.

Literature, the visual arts, performance arts, music -- everything mixesand combines into this accessible space.

Film is the most accessible of all the arts in many ways.
Many people around the world will never visit some of the best

museums, but nearly everyone will have seen a movie at some point in theirlife.

Film allows us to explore the complexities of the human situation.
Sometimes that exploration takes place in the dramatic but sometimes it

    happens to be funny.
Most good films manage to combine a lot of different emotions and

feelings all at the same time.
And generally a good film will look at one or two important questions or

themes and spend some time exploring the answers.
Great films will usually not give you the answers - they will let you

    decide for yourself.

And we can use film to teach - history comes alive, science is

explained, literary works are brought to life.

We use films to work out our emotions - we laugh, we cry, we get

    terrified, we worry, we hope.
It can be a very cathartic experience.
Most of the time when we are watching a film, when we cry, it's because

we are experiencing something we also experience in good therapy - weaccess emotions that we often keep a lid on.

Something strikes us as "truth" and the body let's us know by allowingus to cry.

    It's a release we need.
And many times, noticing the thing that makes us cry - especially if it

isn't necessarily making everyone else around us cry - that's important to takenote of.

The reverse is also true - if everyone else in the theatre is feeling the

same emotion but you are not? That's important as well.
