What Failed?

• Both south and north towers

of World Trade Center

collapsing into the ground.• Emergency exit at the World

Trade Center.• Truss that support the inner

core and the outer frame of

World Trade Center.

Why It Failed?

The impact from the plane.Material that have been used to protect the

exit stairway and the truss is not strong enough to withstand the impact.

The heat from fire causing the truss lose about half of its strength.

North Tower

• The plane struck at the center of the tower.• The tower collapsed because the inner core

cannot withstand the load without support from the truss.

Page 7: Wtc collapsing

South Tower

• The plane struck only a bit of the tower inner core but the impact is much more lower from the north tower.

• So the load the south tower withstand is much more bigger.

Possible Corrective Action

Engineer must consider all the critical and overwhelming factor that can happen for their design.

Safety exit or plan must be the main priority when engineer designing a building.

Page 9: Wtc collapsing

Who Was At Fault? Why?

The Designer Team• They didn’t consider the most important

factor which is safety of the people in that building.

• The rather want cut cost and make the building design is much more realistic.
