– The purpose of the course:• To present an overview of the WTO and International Trade System• To examine the main taxation instruments which promote trade asymmetries• To study the innovations on international tax law, such as the Base Erosion ProfitShifting (BEPS) and the impact on international law

III ‐MBA in International Trade Regulation

• To be developed in the MPGPP – MBA in Public Policy at FGV

• The MBA aims to deepen the understanding of international trade and investmentand to analyze the impacts on the Brazilian Economic Policy.

• The course intends to form a new professional in Brazil, with interdisciplinary skills,capable to analyze the global transactions and the economic and legal devicespresent in multilateral, preferential and national levels of regulatory systems.

• The target audience for the MBA was: professionals graduated in law, economics,international relations, administration or related areas, who look for interdisciplinaryknowledge in these areas and aim at specializing in contemporary issues related totrade and investment.

• Course I: The Policy and Regulation of International Trade andInvestments

• The methodology proposed by the course leads towards an analysis of the newperspective of international trade such as an expanded area, which encompassesnot only traditional export and import rules (customs, non‐tariff barriers, tradedefense), but also trade‐related issues such as exchange rate, investment andcompetition, as well as intellectual property, environment, climate change,taxation, labor standards and human rights.

• Each topic was studied through lectures, discussions of practical cases andsimulations of international negotiations.

• In the end of the course, the students did a presentation and defended a positionpaper to the class regarding one of the trade related issues studied in the semester.

• The course had the purpose to demonstrate the existence of anInternational Economic System that has expanded over the last decades,opening several areas of activity and its regulatory field.

– The e‐book is the result of a research conducted by FGV toInstituto de Pesquisa Econômica Aplicada (IPEA), on theintergovernamental level (Brazil‐Uruguay)

– This is a study to endorse the subgroup of free movement ofgoods and services in the High Level Group Brazil‐Uruguay (GAN)

Research5) Analysis of the economic and financial relations between Latin America andthe Caribbean and the BRICS group – SELA

– The e‐book intended to describe the economic performance of the BRICS countries,their economic relations with Latin America and the Caribbean and the functioningof the development banks of the member countries.

– It assessed the financial architecture of Latin America and the Caribbean andexplored the needs for financing in the region and the analysis of the regulatoryframeworks governing public and private investments in Latin America and theCaribbean and the Bilateral Investment Treaties with the BRICS countries.

– The research encompasses the examination of the main features of the NewDevelopment Bank (NDB) and the Contingent Reserve Agreement of the BRICS.

– In the end, the study dealt with conclusions and recommendations
