This year, for the first time, the Student-Faculty Directory has incorporated the Wayne University Handbook within its covers. Another edition to the Directory is an Advertising Index in the back of the book which acts as a classified section. Other firsts include the listings of the Law School, College of Medicine, and t he School of Morluary Science. The 1948-49 Directory, also contains the names of a ll fu ll-time and part-time matriculated students, as well as faculty , office, and organization listings. In addition, a map of the main campus, and a listing of the a lumni organizations are included. The completion of the Directory was made possible through the cooperation of the associate editors and staff assistants.

THE GRIFFIN

Assistant Managing, Victoria Johnides

The Griffin has been published since 1925 as a student activity. Continuing the tradition, the Griffin has been designed as a senior yearbook. This year due to the unprecedented enthusiasm of the class of 1949, there are over 1200 senior pictures in the book. A hearty "thanks" is extended to a few of the members of the Art Education Department and members of the Collegian staff for their unselfish help. Tom Sutton and Joel Dvorman served as assistant art editors. Joyce Hanchett, Jane Roche, Beverly Bay, and Jeanne Smith worked on copy, while Jerry Cohen contributed sports material to go with the photography of Jay Funkhauser,' pictured on the right.

In April, 1923, a group of women students at the Detroit Junior College organized the An-Tik-Lik Club, the second women's organization on the campus.

This organization was not looked upon with approval. The dean, Mr. D. MacKenzie and the head of women's activities felt the organization was unnecessary and ruled against it since it might prove a fore runner of "sororities." However, they were prevailed upon to allow the group to show their worth with the understanding that failure meant losing their campus sponsorship.

The members assisted organizations on campus, took an active part in college activities, distributed literary digest of the Collegian, collected $425.00 for the first push-ball fo r the Frosh-Soph games. As a result of outstanding service to the University, the club as a whole received recognition.

In 1927, the group became a Greek letter social sorority. Through the years, the group has awarded a scholarship bracelet to tbe outstanding woman student in the L.A. College, who has maintained a high honor point average. The first Governor's Lady belonged to Alpha Theta Sigma. BUSIER and BUSIER •••

Industry is busier than ever before, and so are we at Detroit

Edison. Each week more homes and shops are going up . . .

farms are modernizing. All are using more and more electricity.

This growing business and industrial activity means greater

opportunities for trained people.

We congratulate the class of '49 and look to you, the graduate

today, for leadership tomorrow.
