Emily Brontë

• 30.7.1818 – 19.12. 1848 • Emily was an English author of 19th century. Her most famous novel was Wuthering

Heights. Emily was the third eldest of the four Brontë siblings, between the youngest Anne and her brother Branwell. She also had a sister Charlotte, she wrote for example Jane Eyre. Emily was born in the village of Thornton in the North of England to Maria Branwell and Patrick Brontë. In 1842 she started to work as a governess in Miss Patchett's Ladies Academy. After the death of their aunt, Emily and Charlotte inherited small heritage. They used it to set up a new school for girls. But the school had no pupils. Emily died after death of her brother, because she got cold at his funeral.

• Wuthering Heights was published in 1847 under the pseudonym "Ellis Bell„. It is the only published novel.

Wuthering Heights• The story is set at the turn of 18th and 19th centuries. Lokwood is a gentleman from

London, he rented a house in Yorkshire. The owner of the house is Heathcliff, he lives not far, on Wuthering Heights. On visit on Wuthering heights Lockwood met Kate Heatcliff and Hareton Earnshaw and started to be interested in the history of both kin:

• In 1770 old Earnshaw came home from bussines trip with lonely gypsy boy, he called him Heathcliff. Kate was the only one who liked Heathcliff. After death of old Earnshaw, Hindley became lord of house. Kate got friendship with Isabella and Egdar from Yorkshir. In a few years she got married with Egdar, but she still loved Heathcliff. She farrowed a little Kate and after that died. Heathcliff wanted to avenge, because of that he got married Isabella, but he harassed her. Isabella farrowed a boy Linton. But Linton must went to his father, Heathcliff. Heathcliff imprisoned Kate on Wuthering heights. In a few years Linton and Heathcliff died. After that, young Kate and hareton got married.

• I liked the book, because of interesting plot. But sometimes it was hard to understand. Also the story is very intricate and difficult.
