DISCO DISCO BREAKS
IN MEMORIAM - Mourning the loss of mayor George Moscone and supervisor Harvey Milk who were gunned down last week in City Hall, San Francisco discotheque owners closed their clubs last Monday. More than 20,000 people marched in acandlelight proces sion to pay tribute to the two men who were widely admired. An avowed homosexual, Milk was the highest elected professed gay official in the nation. NAMES IN THE NEWS - Atlantic Records has restructured its disco promotion depart- ment and created a new post of disco A&R. Issy Sanchez has been promoted to national director of disco promotion and A&R. In his new capacity, Issy will sign acts and work with them in the studio. J. Roxy Myzal, who has been doing local pop promotion in N.Y. for Atlantic, has been named to the post of national disco promotion. She will work with the
pools and radio stations. Previously, she was MD of 99X and also originated the Boston Record Pool with John Luongo. Both promo- tions are effective next week ... Citing the need for "community and credibility," Cosmo Wyatt has resigned from the Boston Record Pool and opened the New England DJ Association. Marjie Bush will assist Cosmo. In order to avoid the conflict of interest problems which Cosmo felt plagued BRP, Cosmo will not draw a salary from the pool, maintaining his spinning duties at Kix and also the publishing responsibilities of Progressive Platter. He expects the new pool will have a chart sheet by Xmas. Beginning with 25
DJ Bill Sandor members, the pool's fee is $25. The NEDJA address is: 25 Hun- tington Ave., Rm 211, Boston, Mass. 02116 (617) 247-1144... John Hedges has resigned from MK Dance Productions to work national disco promotions for Fantasy Records. Blec- man & Hedges Productions has been hired to work Fantasy disco product, reporting direc- tly to Phil Jones, vice president of marketing. Reportedly, they are free to pursue outside projects also ... Dan Hartman was named Nov. 26 the Best Male Artist (in the singles divi -

Kenny Lehman has been around. Inside and out of disco. This album which he arranged, produced and conducted bears the influences as a smile shows pleasure. The album can practically be played straight through. "A -Freak -A" has sultry and silky vocals and several catchy lines in addition to a pounding rhythm base and fine horn and guitar work on top. The mood intensifies. This track would be an excellent night builder. "Hot Bodies"has a
funky bass line, sweaty and nasty vocals and a great guttural bass horn fill. The break is a
nice switch -off of drums with guitar overtones; the sax provides another fine moment. "Freak -On" is a commanding instrumental with syndrums, horns, piano, rhythm guitar and steady beat. The punctuations are excellent. "Chance To Dance" is driven by a fast kick and a great first build-up of layered strings. Synthesizer adds melodic flavors. LE PAMPLEMOUSSE - Sweet Magic -Do You Have Any? - AVI 6053 - LP - $7.98
Producers Laurin Rinder and Michael Lewis are reportedly putting together a group - Le Pamplemousse - to hit the road in support of this follow-up to "Le Spank." Lewis is a freak about all kinds of keyboards and this album exhibits his fascination with synthesizer coloration. He also handles the horn arrangements. "Sweet Magic" has fine R&B flavored vocals by Alex Brown, Mortonette Jenkins, Patti Hall and Mr. Rinder. Upfront tambourine, moderate beat and special effects on guitar make the track appealing. The break exposes (first glimpse of what to come) the fine bass work by David Williams. The horn chart throughout the LP is ambitious. "Slow Down" has a great chorus and comeback. The syn- thesizer work is layered, initially moody and then moving up to brightness. Fine leaping sax solo. "Do You Have Any?" is built upon a repeating zippy bass line with kick drum and conga giving an elegant set-up.
