This year we are pleased to be able to show you some of our exciting new titles for Caribbean Schools, as well as our best-sellers and wide range of existing books for schools in the Caribbean. I am very pleased to be able to announce the publication of Making IT Work (page 62), a new Information Technology course for secondary schools. Along with IT for CSEC (which we published last year, see page 64), this means that Nelson Thornes can offer schools a fresh new look at IT throughout Secondary schools. We are also delighted by the success of Nelson Thornes Shakespeare for CSEC. We published the first title in this series, Macbeth, last year, and in this catalogue we have added The Merchant of Venice (page 29). In this year’s catalogue we are also announcing the new, 3rd Edition of The Caribbean People (page 48), by Lennox Honychurch. Lennox has completely revised and updated this course and we are sure you will like what you see. The other new title you will see is Physics for CSEC (page 45). We have also published a new Maths Dictionary for CSEC (page 33). Teachers will be only too aware of some students inability to grasp the language of Maths. This new dictionary will help students develop their understanding of maths which can be a complex vocabulary. Look also for new BEAM titles, and new geography and primary English titles. We believe you will find a wide range of superb and relevant materials in our catalogue. At Nelson Thornes we are also pleased to say our Caribbean Team is growing! With topics presented in clear discrete sections, the three

books provide carefully planned continuity and progression

through the skills areas.

Book 1 introduces the basic skills of wordprocessing,

graphics, using the internet, the basic principles of e-mail

and the use of attachments. The topic of spreadsheets is

introduced, and the use of values and formulas is simply

and clearly explained.

Book 2 builds on the work of Book 1 to show how graphics

and wordprocessing can be used in the creation of simple

class newsheets. A class project on estimating redecorating

costs provides more work on spreadsheets. The topic of

databases is introduced with examples from real-life

situations that demonstrate its relevance in business and

leisure pursuits.

Book 3 looks at the areas of desktop publishing and

provides further practice on spreadsheets and databases. ‘IT

at Work’ sections provide real life examples of small and

large businesses in the Caribbean, the US and beyond, to

show how IT is an essential part of modern business life.
