MSACM - Main Features

GRID environment based integrated, multi-scale Balkan region oriented AQ modelling systemStudy the atmospheric pollution transport and transformation processes (accounting also for heterogeneous chemistry and the importance of aerosols for air quality and climate) from urban to local to regional (Balkan) scales; Track and characterize the main pathways and processes that lead to atmospheric composition formation in different scales; Provide high quality scientifically robust assessments of the air quality and its origin, thus facilitating formulation of pollution mitigation strategies at national and Balkan level.

MSACM - Application on the Grid

The application is resource intensive and in perspective will have definitive response time limits. It requires computational, storage and networking capacity which is beyond the capabilities of the Geophysical Institute.

The application is currently deployed at production-level . The applications input data con be divided into several parts – some of them are more static and some of them vary with the jobs. The total input data can be up to 20 GB. The output data produced for one run is between 1 and 10 GB depending on the inputs. The relatively more static parts of the input will be installed in the Environmental VO application directory taking < 20 GB. The varying input will be transferred from the storage element and the results will be uploaded to the storage element and registered in the LFC.In perspective this application will have hard requirements on the time to finish a computations. Thus eventually it will require MPI with guaranteed startup.
