*A GOSPEL WORTH SHARING(Rom. 1:16-18)

Intro: After introducing the Messenger, the Message and his own Motives in the first 15 verses of this book, the Apostle Paul turns the spotlight on the Gospel that he is going to be writing about. In these 2 verses, we are given one of the greatest summaries of the Gospel ever written by man. For it is in these verses that we can see a clear declaration of God's power and purpose in the Gospel message.1. What is the gospel the true gospel? If we ask that question of Religion it might say Join the Church, be baptized, receive sacraments. 2. I don=t want to know what religion says it is I want to know what the word of God says it is: (1Co 15:3-4) For I delivered unto you first of all that which I also received, how that Christ died for our sins according to the scriptures; 4 And that he was buried, and that he rose again the third day according to the scriptures:

I. NOTICE THE PERSON OF THE GOSPEL. (V.16a)1. Notice it is the Agospel of Christ@

A. Consider he is Love. 1. (1Jo 4:8) He that loveth not knoweth not God; for God is love.(1Jo 4:16) And we have known and believed the love that God hath to us. God is love; and he that dwelleth in love dwelleth in God, and God in him.

B. Consider he is the Lamb. 1. (Joh 1:29) The next day John seeth Jesus coming unto him, and saith, Behold the Lamb of God, which taketh away the sin of the world.

C. Consider he is the Lord.1. (Ac 2:36) Therefore let all the house of Israel know assuredly, that God hath made that same Jesus, whom ye have crucified, both Lord and Christ.

II. NOTICE THE POWER OF THE GOSPEL. (V.16b)1. Nowhere is the power of God so visible as it is in the Gospel of Christ! Think about it! When God takes a lost sinner and saves him by His grace and makes him a new creature, that is a powerful thing. God could have sent us all to Hell, but He instead chose to send us His love wrapped up in His Son, the Lord Jesus. I thank the Lord that He loved us first - (1 John 4:19.)

A. Consider the Might of the gospel. 1. Paul tells us that the Gospel is the "power of God". The word "power" comes from a word that refers to the "might, energy, force and strength that dwell within God."

B. Consider the Miracle of the gospel.1. AUnto salvation@. This word means, complete deliverance from sin and death, and all the foes and dangers that beset man. It cannot imply anything less than eternal life. If a man should believe and then fall away, he could in no correct sense be said to be saved. And hence when the apostle declares that it is the power of God unto salvation "to every one that believeth, " it implies that all who become believers "shall

be kept by the power of God through faith unto salvation, "( see #1Pe 1:5) and that none shall ever fall away and be lost.

C. Consider the Message of the gospel. 1. Notice that Paul's message is the "gospel of Christ." Make no mistake about it, there are many different gospels being preached in our day. There is the Gospel of religion that says, "Turn over a new leaf." There is the gospel of materialism that says, "Your worth is determined by what you have. Gain is the goal of life." There is the Gospel of liberalism that says "I'm OK and you're OK. God accepts us like we are and will take us to Heaven if Heaven really exists." There is the Gospel of society that says, "Do as you please for life is short." Paul's message, on the other hand, says, "You are a sinner, and if you die in your sins, you will go the Hell. However, God loves you and sent His Son, the Lord Jesus into the world. Jesus died for your sins and rose from the dead. If you will place your faith in Him, then you can and will be eternally saved." Tell me, Which Gospel are you trusting in?

III. NOTICE THE PURPOSE OF THE GOSPEL. (V.16c) A...unto salvation...@1. Why did God go to such lengths for men? Why did He give up His Son to die on the cross for the sins of humanity? The primary answer is simply that He loves us. However there is more to it than that. God's plan and God's purpose in giving the Gospel message is "salvation."2. The word "salvation" is a very important word. It means, "safety, preservation, deliverance." It carries the idea of "being rescued from all harm and danger." God's desire in saving sinners is to forever deliver them from spiritual death, spiritual defilement, spiritual deception and spiritual destruction. Lest we forget, the end of all sinners, outside the Lord Jesus, is the fire of Hell. God purpose in giving the Gospel is to change man's destination in eternity and his life here on earth as well. 3. So we see his purpose is to Deliver;

A. From the Power of Sin. B. From the Punishment of Sin. (Rom.6:23)C. From the Pleasure of Sin.D. From the Presence of Sin. (I Thess.4:13-18)

IV. NOTICE THE PLAN OF THE GOSPEL.(V.16c)1. Verse 16 tells us in no uncertain terms exactly how this Gospel message of salvation is activated. Notice that it is "to every one that believeth."2. This makes it perfectly clear that biblical salvation does not involve complicated religious rituals or ornate and elaborate religious exercises. Salvation is the product of faith and faith alone! (Ill. Eph. 2:8-9; Titus 2:5).3. This is the point where many people stumble. People like to do things for themselves. They like to feel that they have a part of everything in their lives. However, in the matter of salvation, the sinner can have no part. It is all God, all the way. Salvation comes to the person who is willing to simply receive the message of Christ by faith, (John 6:47)Verily, verily, I say unto you, He that believeth on me hath everlasting life.

V. NOTICE THE PLEDGE OF THE GOSPEL. (V.16) A...to every [email protected] great, saving Gospel message is for every single person in the world! No one is beyond the reach of the Gospel of grace. Notice these words from our Savior: (Rev. 22:17) AAnd the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely@. The pledge of the Gospel is that any one who hears the message and needs the cure can be saved by God's precious grace! So we see;

A. Consider Salvation is Unlimited! AEvery one@B. Consider Salvation is Unmerited! ABelieveth@C. Consider Salvation is Universal! (Joh.3:16)

Conc; We have been given a Gospel worth believing and one that is worth sharing. The questions as we bring these thoughts together are these: Are you trusting in the Gospel of Christ for salvation? Are you sharing the Gospel like Paul did? Are you ashamed of the Gospel of Christ? The same message that was able to save then, can save now. The same power that worked in Paul's day is working in our day. All we need to do to see the Gospel work in power is to believe it and to share. When we do these, God will do the rest!

GOD'S JUDGMENT OF THE HYPOCRITE (Rom. 2:1-16 Text V.1)Intro: There are multitudes that choose lives of rebellion and disobedience against God, and these people will be held accountable and will feel the full fury of God's wrath against their sin. However, there are just as many others who live moral lives. These are people who are outwardly clean and upright, but who are inwardly just as wicked as their evil counterparts. In the verses that I have read this evening, Paul turns the spotlight of the Word of God on those who are what we might call hypocrites. That is, they are people who would condemn the actions listed in the latter part of chapter 1, but who have no intention of getting right with God themselves. These people look right outwardly, but inwardly, they are guilty of many of the same sins of the wicked mentioned in chapter 1.In these verses, the Apostle Paul tells us something about the impending judgment of God against sin. In doing so, he helps to understand just what the judgment of God is about, who will be affected by it and what the results will be. Therefore, let's look into these verses this evening and learn more about the character of God's judgment. There are three truths revealed in this passage that will teach us much about the judgment of God in the life of the hypocrite.

I. CONSIDER THE REASON FOR GOD'S JUDGMENT. V. 1-5A. The Sinfulness Of The Hypocrite. (V. 1) Just as surely as the Lord's wrath will be revealed against all those guilty of open sinful, wicked life, we can be sure that it will also be felt by the hypocrite. We all know what a hypocrite is. A hypocrite is someone who merely plays a part. They pretend to be someone and something that they are not. God will not hold this kind of person guiltless.

1. Because Of His Condemnation - One of the reasons God judges the hypocrite is because the hypocrite assumes the place of God in judging the life and conduct of others. It is neither your place, or mine, to pass judgment on another person, Matt. 7:1-5. When we judge, we are guilty before God!2. Because Of His Conduct - What really takes the cake is that the hypocrite looks at another person and judges them for what they do, but God says that the hypocrite is just as guilty as the person he judges! (Ill. They may not do the same things outwardly, but sin begins in the heart, Matt. 15:16-20. Jesus made it clear in His preaching that to have sin in your heart was as bad as actually doing that sin, Matt. 5:21-38.) Let us beware that we never have a hypocritical spirit!

B. V. 2-3 The Sentence Of The Hypocrite - Just as the wicked will be judged by God, so too shall the hypocrite! In fact, the judgment they will face will be exactly the same! Notice what Paul tells us about this coming judgment.

1. V. 2 The Purity Of The Judge - Paul is telling us that God's judgment of the hypocrite will be based in the truth of what they are, just as surely as His condemnation of those who are openly wicked will be based in the truth of what they are. We must never forget that while man looks on the outside, God looks at the heart, 1 Sam 16:7.2. V. 3 The Power Of The Evidence - The power of the evidence lies in the fact that it will surely condemn those who are guilty of judging others of the sins that they themselves are guilty of! The bottom line of all this is the fact that it isn't the state of one's life that is the issue, it is the state of the heart. You and I can be squeaky clean on the outside, but God knows our hearts! Unless we are in a vital, living relationship with the Lord Jesus Christ, then we are doomed to face the judgment of God. Many who sit in the pews of he local church and look down their noses at others because of the way they live will someday face the undiluted wrath of God, because in their hearts, they are just as wicked as the people they condemn!

(Ill. Many are like the Elder Brother in the parable of the Prodigal Son, Luke 15:11-32. He didn't run off like his younger brother and live a wicked life, but in his heart, he was just as rebellious as the other son. In the eyes of God, he was guilty!)

C. V. 4-5 The Shame Of The Hypocrite - These next two verse make the reality of hypocrite's sinful nature crystal clear! There are three facts revealed here that make the reasons for and behind his judgment plain.

1. V. 4a He Delights In The Blessings Of God - The words used here indicate that the hypocrite enjoys the good life. God withholds His judgment and the hypocrite thinks that the goodness of God is an indication of the favor of God. The truth is, God is merely giving the hypocrite every opportunity to repent. The hypocrite feels that because he isn't guilty, at least outwardly, of the sins of other men, that God must be pleased with his life. Nothing could be farther from the truth!2. V. 4b He Despises The Blessings Of God - Because the hypocrite misunderstands the blessings of God, he refuses to repent. It is the very goodness of God that should lead men to love Him, serve Him and seek a relationship with Him., 1 John 4:19. But not the hypocrite! He sees the goodness of God as a stamp of approval on his conduct and thereby he despises the blessings of God. (Ill. Thank God for His longsuffering and grace, 2 Pet. 3:9; Rev. 3:20!)3. V. 5 He Is Damned By The Blessings Of God - This verse tells us that the hypocrite, instead of gaining favor with God, is actually storing up wrath and judgment against himself. When the Lord, and His grace are taken for granted, the only logical outcome will be that of judgment! Just as surely as the wicked sinner will face his sins in the judgment of God, so too shall the secret sinner. All sin will be revealed and judged by God. Hell will be just as full of hypocrites as it will be of open, blatant sinners!

II. THE REALITIES OF GOD'S JUDGMENT. V. 6-11A. V. 6 It Is Personal - According to this verse, God's judgment in the life of a person is an individual matter. In other words, every person will be judged according to their own merits. You will not pay for the sins of another neither will another man be judged for your sins. God's judgment will be fair and tailored to each individual life.

(Ill. The hypocrite tends to want to lump everyone together and condemn them all judging by his own, biased standard. God, on the other hand, judges men based on what he knows about their hearts. And His knowledge of the human heart is thorough, Heb. 4:13, Jer. 17:10.)

Page 7: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

B. V. 7-10 It Is Proper - These verses tell us that the person who lives right and seeks the Lord will be enjoy the blessings of the Lord, while the person who denies God and lives for self will receive a proper judgment! It is impossible to get away from the truth that it is the condition of the heart that matters. Solomon said reminded us that however a person fell was how they ended up, Eccl. 11:3. Everything hinges on what a person does with Jesus Christ!

(Ill. Men are never saved by their works, Eph. 2:8-9. However, the traits mentioned here by the Apostle are evidence that the persons pointed out in these verse is a born again believer! Salvation has always, and will always come only through faith in the finished work of Jesus Christ at Calvary!)

C. V. 11 It Is Perfect - This verse simply states that no one receives special treatment from the Lord! No one need think they have carte blanch to do as they please and still be accepted by God. Every one will be judged by the same criterion: Jesus Christ and their personal relationship to Him! There is no respect of persons with God! He doesn't single some out for Heaven and others out for Hell. He gives all men opportunity and He always does it fairly!

III. V. 12-16 THE REALIZATION OF GOD'S JUDGMENTA. V. 12 It Will Focus On A Rebellion - The basis for God's judgment is sin! All those who sin will pay the price of the sinner. If they knew the law and sinned, they will be judged. If they knew no law and sinned, they will still be judged! According to Eze. 18:4, 20, the soul that sins shall die! The bottom line is pretty clear. God's judgment will be realized by all those who are caught in their sins when they leave this world. (Ill. That includes every person who has ever, or will ever live - Rom. 3:23; Gal. 3:2) There is just one remedy for sin and that is the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ, Rev. 1:5.B. V. 13-15 It Will Focus On A Reaction - Someone might be tempted to ask, "Is this fair? What about the people who have never been exposed to the Word of God? Will they still be held accountable?" The answer to that question is "Yes, they will!" These verses make it very plain that every man has a conscience. The conscience is not a guide to live by, but it is a goad that tells us the difference between right and wrong. When a person allows his conscience to be the guide by which he lives, he is headed for trouble, but when he listens to his conscience as it points out right and wrong, that person can make moral decisions.

(Ill. What Paul is talking about here is the Light of God, John 1:9. Every person who is born into this world receives light from God. That light may be bright, or it may be dim, but if a person will follow that light, he will be given more light and he will eventually be brought face to face with the Lord Jesus Christ. Certainly, men will be judged according to the light they were given, but to reject a little light is just as damning as rejecting a lot of light!

C. V. 16 It Will Focus On A Reality - There is a day coming when God will judge all men. A day when all the secrets of men will be proclaimed publicly, Luke 12:3. A day when men will face the reality of what their life was. What will be the basis of this judgment? The Gospel of Jesus Christ! Man's eternity will rise or fall on what He did with the Gospel of grace. On that day, it won't matter about one's accomplishments, one's standing in the community or how one is perceived by others. All that will matter when that day comes is what did that person do with Jesus Christ? Did he receive Him, or did he reject Him? Did he fall before Him in repentance, or did he cling to his sins and stubbornly refuse to bow before the Lord? A person's eternity depends totally on what they do with Jesus - 1 John 5:12! (Ill. Rev. 20:11-15 - What a horrible end awaits everyone who refuses to come to faith in Christ! Where do you stand?)

ROMANS CHAPTER 3:Key Verse: (V.23)3 Main Spiritual Thoughts:1. God=s Righteousness and man=s Rebuttal. (V.1-9)2. God=s Righteousness and man=s Refuge. (V.10-18)3. God=s Righteousness and man=s Redemption. (V.19-31)Summary:After discussing the two types of sinners (Jews & Gentiles), the Lord dumps them into one group and concludes in (V.22 - 23) Athere is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God;@ The Final Verdict:All Are Under Sin, (V.19) Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.The Conclusion:(V.20) Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. Paul in this chapter conclusively proves the gentile in his paganism and the Jew in his religion, without Christ were equally guilty before God! Outline Of Chapter 3:

I. Consider the Whys for Sovereignty. (V.1-9) 1. Paul deals with some pertinent questions that have arisen concerning the gospel. These questions challenge the wisdom of God who Planed, Payed, Presented and Provided salvation, But=s the answers show the problem is the questions not God.

A. Notice the why of Inheritance. (V.1-2)1. Note the Reason for the question. (V.1)What advantage then hath the Jew? or what profit is there of circumcision? Many Jews looked at their spiritual privilege as their ticket to heaven.2. Note the Reply to the question. (V.2) The advantages that the Jew had were the Scriptures were given to them. The advantage was not salvation but was opportunity to be saved and know about the truth of salvation sooner and better.

B. Notice the why of Invalidation. (V.3 - 4)1. Note the Reason for the question. (V.3) this second question would challenge the gospel from the standpoint that not everyone who hears the gospel excepts it. The though is that God should have given a gospel that man would have readily accepted, and if man rejects the gospel it makes God faulty and His gospel invalid.2. Note the Reply to the question. (V.4) Paul answer is forceful. The idea that God is flawed because man reject His Gospel is absurd!

C. Notice the why of Inference. (V.5-8) 1. The Reason for the question. This question challenges the fairness and righteousness of God in condemning sinners. The issue here is that if the sinfulness of man causes God to be glorified in saving sinners. does that not condemn God for judgement upon sinners? The question argues that if it wasn=t for sin, God would not be glorified in the saving sinners.2. The Reply to the question. AGod forbid@

E. Notice the why of Inequality. (V.9)II. Consider the Wickedness of Sinners. (V.10-18)1. Consider the Lost Charter of man Universal. (V.9-12)

Intro; Romans Ch. 3 is one of the most if not the most convincing Ch. in the Word Of God concern the guilt of man kind before God. Paul demonstrates here the truth that no mater what nationality, or social class a person is from we are sinners in need of salvation

1. Here we are shown proof positive by written Word of the Scriptures, and the working Way of the Holy Spirit that both Jew and Gentile stand before god equally guilty of sin and therefore condemned and lost and hell bound!2. The words AWhat then...@ calls both Jew and Gentile to look back over Paul=s arguments concerning man=s Regression in (1:24-32), Retribution (2:1-16), Religion (2:17-29), and Rebuttals (3:1-8) and then we see man is left with no Refuge without Jesus (3:9-31) With that in mind let=s consider the text;

I. Consider the Lost Charter of man Universal. (V.9-12)1. Man=s charter will reveal the depravity of his nature his Actions, Attitude, Associations will identify his true charter.2. Here we see the Principle of man=s depravity. and the Proof of man=s depravity.

3. So to the question A...are we better than they?@ he emphatically answers ANO@ the Lord rejects all religion that does not Recognize, Receive, and Rest upon the Lord Jesus Christ as Savior!

B. Notice Paul Defines man=s sinful Condition. (V.10-12)1. Man is universally Corrupted, and universally Controlled by sin! In one bold sweep Paul destroys any refuge that man may find in Racial Pride or Religious Practice in the phrase A...all are under sin.@ 2. The Witness of the Scripture is of total Unrighteousness. (V.10) A...As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:@ 3. The Wisdom of the Spiritual is totally Unknowing. (V11a) AThere is none that understandeth...@4. Here Slowly, Skillfully and Scripturally Paul Diagnoses man=s condition and Destroys man=s Claims of any refuge in self-righteousness!

II. Consider the Lawless Conduct of man is Undeniable. (13-18)1. From Cain until now, man has tried to find refuge in religious conduct. He has offered to the sinless God his Agood works@. But God, has always refused man=s works this leaves man with no refuge in himself. As a man does he is, (Pr.23:7) AFor as he thinketh in his heart, so is he:@

E. Notice man=s Conscience is corrupted by sin. (V.18)III. Consider the Lord=s Condemnation of man is Unbiased. (V.19-20)

1. Paul here with convincing thrust shows us that all mankind in his natural state is condemned. (Joh 3:18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. 2. This is the Point and Purpose of all that has been said up to this point. All men are Corrupted by sin, therefore all men are Condemned by sin!

A. Notice the whole world stand before God Speechless. (V.19a) ANow we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stoped...@ B. Notice the whole world stand before God Sinful. (V.19b) A... that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God.@

1. AGuilty@ is God=s verdict! None are Righteous, therefore all need Redemption. This is the purpose of the epistle to reveal nature and need of God=s righteousness.

C. Notice the whole world stands before God Sentenced. (V.20)1. The ATherefore...@ is Paul=s last blow to the Spiritual refuge of Self-righteousness. Here he reminds us that the law was never given to save anyone. Rather, it was given to reveal man=s sinfulness and God=s sinlessness!

IV. Consider the Life Conversion is Unmerited. (V.21-31)

1. (V.21) brings us to a turning point in this epistle. Here is the hinge upon which its content swings from the Records of sin to the Revelation of salvation man is led to see. 2. Now in (ch.1:16-17) Paul declared that he was not ashamed of the gospel of Christ because it Reveals salvation by faith. In (ch1:18) to (ch.3:20) he stresses the Need of this salvation. Beginning in (ch.3:21) and following he shows the Nature of this salvation.

A. Notice free righteousness is Declared. (V.21-23)B. Notice free righteousness is Defined. (V.24-26)C. Notice free righteousness is Defended. (V.25-31)

ROMANS CHAPTER: 4Key Verse: (V.8)3 Main Spiritual Thoughts:When we come to Romans chapter four, the Apostle Paul is continuing to hammer home the principle of justification by faith alone. As he did at the beginning of chapter three, Paul begins chapter four anticipating Jewish objections to his message. In a bold move, Paul takes the revered figure of Abraham, and uses him and his life to support the truth of justification by faith alone.1. There are Examples of Justification (V.1-8)2. There are Exclusions of Justification. (V.9-16)3. There is the Elaboration of Justification. (17-25)3 Views of Salvation:1. The Plain Of Salvation (Ch.3:20-4:2)2. The Picture of Salvation (4:1-5)3. The Proclamation of Salvation (4:6-25)Introduction: Paul has just finished nailing shut the lid on the coffin of the Law in ch.3. He has told us in no uncertain terms that the Law cannot save, and that salvation comes only through faith in the shed blood of the Lord Jesus Christ. You and I believe this truth and we rejoice in it. What a blessing it is to be able to deal with concepts like justification, redemption, propitiation, remission of sins, forgiveness of sins and the grace of God.

1. There is much confusion in the world surrounding the matter of salvation and getting right with God. I find the Bible is crystal clear in this area. However, there are groups that say baptism is a requirement for salvation. Others tell us that we must belong to their denomination or group if we hope to be save. Still others claim that we must keep certain sacraments, or holy ordinances, if we expect to get to Heaven. If you listen to every voice out there, you would be in a terrible fix and would never know where you stood with God. All you would know is that no matter what you did, it was never enough.2. This seems to be the attitude Paul is attempting combat in this chapter of Romans. He has just told the Jews that getting right with God is simply a matter of faith. He tells them that salvation does not rest in one's obedience to the Law. Neither does it rely on one's good works. He tells us that such blessings as justification, righteousness, salvation, forgiveness, etc., are all given to us free and clear when we trust Christ as our personal Savior.3. Ever since the fall of man there has been confusion over salvation and if always comes down to works verses grace man=s way verses God=s way. The bible tells us in; (Pr 14:12) There is a way which seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. (Pr 16:25) There is a way that seemeth right unto a man, but the end thereof are the ways of death. Mans way always ends the same! (Joh.14:6) & (Eph.2:8-9) God=s way always ends the same! (Joh3:15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (Joh 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

OUTLINE OF ROMANS CHAPTER 4:Salvation God = s Way!

(Rom.4:1-25)I. Consider Faith Expresses the Message of salvation. (Vs.1-8)

1. The main object of this chapter is to show that the doctrine of justification by faith, found in the Old Testament. The argument is to be regarded as addressed particularly to a Jew, to show him that no new doctrine was advanced. The argument is derived, first, from the fact that Abraham was so justified, (Ro.4:1-5) secondly, from the fact that the same thing is declared by David, (Ro.4:6-8).

A. Notice the Arguments Paul Considers. (V.1-2)1. He deals with their False Assumptions about Abraham. (V.1) How does your doctrine of justification by faith agree with what the Scriptures say of Abraham? He is asking how does the circumcision of Abraham benefit, was Abraham justified by works or faith. 2. He deals with their Foolishness Associated with Abraham. (V.2) This is the answer of the apostle. If Abraham was justified on the ground of his own merits, he would have reason to boast, before man but not

Page 12: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

before God.3. The question is was Abraham saved by his good works or by faith which Paul spoke of in the previous chapter.

B. Notice the Authority Paul Consults. (Vs.3-5)1. Paul Consults the Word of God. (V.3) Paul knows exactly how to settle the argument AFor what saith the scripture@ we should all learn this lesson. AAbraham believed God, and it was counted unto him for righteousness.@ 2. Paul Consults the Wisdom of God. (Vs.4-5) Paul reasons that if salvation is based on the principle of works God owes us salvation. But salvation is based on a promise!

C. Notice the Advocate Paul Cites. (Vs.6-8)1. The Testimony of Grace Realized by David. (V.6)2. The Truths of Grace Recorded by David. (Vs7-8)

a.] Salvation by Grace Cancels sin Entirely. (V.7a) ASaying, Blessed are they whose iniquities are forgiven...@ This is the putting away of our sin.b.] Salvation by Grace Effectively Cleans sin. (V.7b) A...and whose sins are covered...@ This word covered here conveys the idea of the pardoning of sin.c.] Salvation by Grace Eternally Clears the sinner. (V.8)

II. Consider Facts Explain the Means of salvation. (Vs.9-16)1. Most everything changes, but there is one thing we can be sure of the facts never change.

A. Notice salvation is by faith not Race. (V.9-10)1. The question is did this blessing come before or after circumcision? Was it for the Jew only or for the gentile also? I thank God the bible says in; (Re.22:17) And the Spirit and the bride say, Come. And let him that heareth say, Come. And let him that is athirst come. And whosoever will, let him take the water of life freely. (Joh 3:15) That whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have eternal life. (Joh 3:16) For God so loved the world, that he gave his only begotten Son, that whosoever believeth in him should not perish, but have everlasting life. (Joh 12:46) I am come a light into the world, that whosoever believeth on me should not abide in darkness. (Ac 10:43) To him give all the prophets witness, that through his name whosoever believeth in him shall receive remission of sins. The key word in these verses is AWHOSOEVER@!!

B. Notice salvation is by faith not Rights. (Vs.11-12)1. Here God proves salvation is not by religious rights, or ceremony. Jude warns us of this in (Jude 1:11) AWoe unto them! for they have gone in the way of Cain...@ Cain=s way was a Bloodless way, it was a Burdensome way, it was a Boastful way.2. Cain offered the world religion w/out Remission (Heb.9:22), religion w/out Reconciliation, religion w/out Repentance, religion w/out Redemption!

C. Notice salvation is by faith not by Regulations. (Vs.13-16)III. Consider the Fundamentals Expose the Magnitude of salvation. (Vs.17-25)

1. These last few verses of chapter four teach us the truth that we cannot depend on keeping the Law to save us. We cannot depend on our good works to save us. We cannot depend on anything external to save our souls. Paul's point here, as it has been throughout this chapter is that salvation is produced purely by faith!2. All through this chapter, Paul has been appealing to the faith of Abraham to prove his point that men are saved by faith. Now, he is going to tell us what kind of faith Abraham had. It was faith in the promise of the birth of Isaac.. It was simply faith in what God said. It came down to faith in God that brought salvation to Abraham!

A. Notice the Force of this promise. (V.17) A...even God...@1. The force of this promise is simple faith in God, the bible says in (1Pet.1:23) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever. Now (Ro 10:9) That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved.2. Simply put just as Abraham did when we put our faith in the word of God then and only then will we be saved!

B. Notice the Faith in the promise. (Vs.18-22)1. (V. 20) The Direction Of His Faith - Verse 20 tells us clearly that Abraham "staggered not at the promise of God." This simply means that Abraham did not waver! He believed, without reservation, in God's ability to keep His Word!{Note} What was the promise anyway? To answer that, we need only turn back to the book of Genesis 12:1-3; 13:14-18; 15:2-6; 17:15-22; 21:1-8. When these verses are taken as a whole, they teach the

Page 13: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

incredible truth that God supernaturally caused Abraham and Sarah to have a son named Isaac. Basically, Abraham directed his faith toward God, even when it seemed that what he had been promised was totally impossible!2. (V. 18) The Duration Of His Faith - When the promise was first given to Abraham, he was 75 years old. Even then, it must have seemed impossible. However, when the promise was last confirmed in chapter 17, Abraham was 99 years old. It must have really looked impossible by then! Yet, his faith did not waver! The Bible tells us that Abraham "believed" God. This word is in a tense that suggests that he believed God when he received the promise and he kept on believing until the promise was fulfilled. That is the kind of faith that sees mountains moved!

{Note} Let me just encourage some of you who have been waiting on the Lord to move in your life. He hasn't forgotten about you! If He has made you a promise, then you can count on that promise being fulfilled in His time. Don't give up, don't despair, but trust in the Lord and He will bring it to pass!

3. (Vs.18-20) The Determination Of His Faith - There are three truths revealed about the faith of Abraham that serve as an encouragement to those who must live their lives in dependence upon the Lord.

1. V. 18 He Refused To Listen To Reason. Notice, "hoped against hope". Abraham had to have had his eyes on One greater than himself. If his eyes were on his circumstances, then he had every reason to doubt that the promise would be fulfilled.2. V. 19 He Refused To Look At Reality. Abraham refused to look at his situation, his eyes were on the promise of God. Can you imagine this old couple as they prepared for the birth of their son?3. V. 20 He Refused To Lose The Reward. Abraham lived for 25 years with the knowledge that one day God would give him and Sarah a child. He knew it and he refused to let go of that truth. He obtained that promise because he responded to God's promise with an attitude of faith!{Note} I don't know what you need from the Lord this evening, but if you have His promise in the matter, then I challenge you to act on faith. Learn what faith is, Heb. 11:1. Learn that nothing else pleases the Lord, Heb. 11:6. Learn that anything less is sin, Rom. 14:23. After those lessons are learned, simply take God at His Word and hold on.

C. Notice Forgiveness is the promise. (Vs.23-25)1.There is a lesson here about salvation. Abraham acted on the light he had and was declared righteous by God. He was saved by faith, just the same as any person is in our day. However, the object of our saving faith is different. Salvation has always been by grace through faith, however, Abraham took God at His Word concerning the birth of Isaac, the future multitudes, and that every family on earth would be blessed and God accepted that as saving faith. For us to be saved, we have to react to the light that we have been given as well. However, it is not enough just to believe in God or even in His promises. Now, the light we have received has revealed that Jesus Christ is the Way to God. If we are going to be saved, then it isn't merely faith, but faith in Jesus and His sacrifice that saves the soul, (Acts 4:12) Neither is there salvation in any other: for there is none other name under heaven given among men, whereby we must be saved. John 14:6. Your faith is in something Is it in Jesus and him alone?)

Romans Chapter 5Key Verse: (V.20)Key Spiritual Thought: To show the results or benefits of the doctrine of justification by faith. Outline Of Chapter 5:

A Much More Grace @ (Rom.5:1-21 Text V.20)

Intro: The design of this chapter, is to show the results or benefits of the doctrine of justification by faith. That doctrine the apostle had now fully established. He had shown in the previous chapters, (1-4). Paul went to great lengths in chapters, 3,4 establishing the fact of justification by faith. Here in chapter 5 he reflect on this truth!1. Notice the phrase AMuch More@ the meaning: more, to a greater degree, by far rather, sooner, more willingly, more readily, sooner (Jas 4:6) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. GRACE IS UNMERITED--however, it can be hindered. Hindered by Sin, a lack of Submission, a lack of Separation, or Service. 2. So the word Amuch@ means: great in quantity or amount. Amore@ means: more willingly, more readily, sooner. The idea is God will give grace in a greater quantity willingly. With that in mind lets consider the text:

I. Consider there is Saving Grace. (V.1,8-11,20)1. In these passages we are assured of saving grace notice in (V.1) the phrase Apeace with God@ this means: (peace)the tranquil state of a soul assured of its salvation through Christ, and so fearing nothing from God and content with its earthly lot. (with) facing, or toward. (God) the idea conveyed here is if were saved or Ajustified@ we can be assured of peace when we face God for judgement. So then:

A. Notice we see the Results of saving grace Declared. (V.1) A...we have peace with God...@B. Notice we see the Reconciliation of saving grace Defined. (V.8-11)

1. Notice the Principle of saving grace. (V.8)2. Notice the Procurement of saving grace. (V8b) A...Christ died for us.@3. Notice the Propitiation of saving grace. (V.9)

a.} (Ro 3:25) Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; (1Jo 2:2) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world. (1Jo 4:10) Herein is love, not that we loved God, but that he loved us, and sent his Son to be the propitiation for our sins.

4. Notice the Pronouncement of saving grace. (V.9b-11)a.) Notice the phrase in (V.9) Awe shall be saved from wrath through him.@ this means I am exempt from the lake of fire because of saving grace! (1Th 5:9) For God hath not appointed us to wrath, but to obtain salvation by our Lord Jesus Christ, this wrath is the tribulation because of saving faith I will never go to hell!b.) Then (V.10) tells why we will be saved as long as Jesus Lives!!!!

5. Notice the Purpose of saving grace. (V.11) (is so God receives the glory)II. Consider there is Sustaining Grace. (V.2-6,17)

1. The same Lord that supplied saving grace, supplied sustaining grace notice (V.17) Ashall reign in life by one, Jesus Christ.@ 2. Shall reign. The word reign is often applied to the condition of saints in heaven. #2Ti 2:12, "If we suffer, we shall also reign with him." It means that they shall be exalted to a glorious state of happiness in heaven; and ultimate victory; and shall partake with the Captain of their salvation in the splendours of his dominion above, 3. In life. This stands opposed to the death that reigned as the consequence of the sin of Adam. It denotes complete freedom from condemnation; It is the usual expression to denote the complete bliss of the saints in glory4. We know that if we saved we will get to heaven but I want to apply this verse in the light of life here. If you have saving grace you have sustaining grace no matter how dark, discouraging depressing, defeating , or disheartening our circumstances are.

A. Consider Gods grace will sustain us in Tribulation. 1. This word means: pressing, pressing together, pressure or trouble. The bible says in (2Co 12:9) And he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness. Most gladly therefore will I rather glory in my infirmities, that the power of Christ may rest upon me.

B. Consider God=s grace will sustain us in Trials. 1. (1 Pet.4:12-14) Beloved, think it not strange concerning the fiery trial which is to try you, as though some strange thing happened unto you: 13But rejoice, inasmuch as ye are partakers of Christ=s sufferings; that, when his glory shall be revealed, ye may be glad also with exceeding joy. 14 If ye be reproached for the name of Christ, happy are ye; for the spirit of glory and of God resteth upon you: on their part he is evil spoken of, but on your part he is glorified.

C. Consider God=s grace will sustain us in Temptation. 1. (Jas 1:13-14) Let no man say when he is tempted, I am tempted of God: for God cannot be tempted with evil, neither tempteth he any man: 14 But every man is tempted, when he is drawn away of his own lust, and enticed. 2. But remember (2Cor.12:9) AAnd he said unto me, My grace is sufficient for thee: for my strength is made perfect in weakness...@ So in our weakness let us rely upon his much more grace.

III. Consider there is Superbounding Grace. (V.15-21)1. The Superbounding means: over, above, excess advancing with leaps and bounds. No less than 5 times we see the words Amuch more@ (V.9,10,15,17,20)

A. Notice when we had no Standing there was much more grace. (V.1,2,9)1. We were facing the judgement of God with no hope (Rom.14:10b-12) for we shall all stand before

Page 15: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

the judgment seat of Christ. 11 For it is written, As I live, saith the Lord, every knee shall bow to me, and every tongue shall confess to God. 12 So then every one of us shall give account of himself to God. but Jesus made peace for us. (V.9)

B. Notice when we had no Strength there was much more grace. (V.6,10)C. Notice when we were condemned in Sin there was much more grace. (V.15,17,20)The Commendation Of Christ!

(Rom.5:1-21 Text V.8)Intro: Our God is a God of the superlative! He never under supply anything, but always deals with us

generously. It is in God's very nature to be lavish with His people! (Lk. 6:38) saysA...Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, and running over." That's how God gives! All that we will ever need, He will supply! (Phil. 4:19) saysABut my God shall supply all your need according to his riches in glory by Christ Jesus!"

1. In (Rom. 5:9-21) the phrase "much more", appears five times. The Offering of Christ's amazing Sacrifice is what is before us in the phrase "much more." Because of Calvary both God and man have gained. God has gained because He is now able to demonstrate His love amply. Man has gained because he can become an heir to sonship with God and an eternal salvation.2. The design of this chapter, is to show the results or benefits of the doctrine of justification by faith. That doctrine the apostle had now fully established. He had shown in the previous chapters, (1-4). Paul went to great lengths in chapters, 3,4 establishing the fact of justification by faith. Here in chapter 5 he reflect on this truth!3. Notice the phrase AMuch More@ the meaning: more, to a greater degree, by far rather, sooner, more willingly, more readily, sooner (Jas 4:6) But he giveth more grace. Wherefore he saith, God resisteth the proud, but giveth grace unto the humble. GRACE IS UNMERITED however, it can be hindered. Hindered by Sin, a lack of Submission, a lack of Separation, or Service. 4. So the word Amuch@ means: great in quantity or amount. Amore@ means: more willingly, more readily, sooner. The idea is God will give grace in a greater quantity willingly. I want to look at these five AMuch More@ in the light of (V.8) With that in mind lets consider the text:

I. Consider the Amuch more@ of His Propitiation. (V.9)1. God's plan of redemption is far above anything we could ever have asked for or thought of, but God in love and mercy freely makes it available to all!2. One of my favorite verses in the word of God is (1Jo 2:2) And he is the propitiation for our sins: and not for ours only, but also for the sins of the whole world.

A. Notice God=s justice Demands Payment! 1. This verse tells us Abeing now justified by his blood, we shall be saved from wrath through him.@ God is a just God and His justice demands that sin be paid for!2. This was freely done at Calvary with Christ's own blood! The blood of Christ met the demands of God=s justice. We read in (1 Pet. 1:18-20) AForasmuch as ye know that ye were not redeemed with corruptible things, as silver and gold, from your vain conversation received by tradition from your fathers; But with the precious blood of Christ, as of a lamb without blemish and without spot: Who verily was foreordained before the foundation of the world, but was manifest in these last times for you.@ also (1 Pet. 2:24) AWho his own self bare our sins in his own body on the tree, that we, being dead to sins, should live unto righteousness: by whose stripes ye were healed.@ 3. How do we know that the righteous demands of God=s justice were met in Christ? God tells us so in (Isa. 53:11)AHe shall see of the travail of his soul, and shall be satisfied: by his knowledge shall my righteous servant justify many; for he shall bear their iniquities.@

B. Notice God=s justice Delivers Pardon!1. I want you to notice the words here in AYbeing now justified by his bloodY@. means Apardoned, accepted as his friends.@ Now I stand JUSTIFIED (Just As If I'd Never Sinned) before God by faith in Christ's blood! (Rom. 3:24-25)ABeing justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God.

C. Notice God=s justice Declares Peace!1. Not only does this verse tell us that we who believe are Anow justified by his blood@ but also "...We shall be saved from wrath through him" What does this mean? It means hell is an impossibility for the redeemed! Our sin debt has been paid and Heaven is now our new home! Because of our faith in HIM we are assured of Heaven! (V.1-2) Therefore being justified by faith, we have peace with God through

Page 16: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

our Lord Jesus Christ: By whom also we have access by faith into this grace wherein we stand, and rejoice in hope of the glory of God.@

II. Consider the Amuch more@ of His Provisions. (V.10)1. In verses 5-10, Paul tells us that man's condition can be summed up by four descriptive terms: (v.6) Without strength, (v.6) ungodly, (v.8) sinner, (v.10) enemies, These four terms describe the condition of all men who are lost in sin. This is God's portrait of humanity apart from Him.

A. Notice The Sinner Is A Weak Man. (V.6) "Without Strength" This carries the idea of being "powerless". It speaks of people who are "utterly helpless with no means of escape." The idea is that the lost sinner stands before God with absolutely no ability to change what he is (Rom.3:23 & 6:23,). We are powerless to escape sin, to escape death, to resist the devil, to please God in any way.B. Notice The Sinner Is A Wicked Man. (V.6) "Ungodly" This word refers to those who, "without reverence for or fear of God." It literally means to "live your life as if God did not exist." Because we are helpless to change our sinful nature, we live our lives as we please without regard for God, or for His Law and will. (Note: To be "ungodly" does not mean that one must wallow in sin! The unsaved church member is just as godless as any other sinner! When a person refuses to bow before the Lord in salvation, he is essentially setting himself up as his own god. Therefore, he does as he pleases, he worships himself without any regard for the true God. Hence, he is "godless"! (Mt 12:30) He that is not with me is against me; and he that gathereth not with me scattereth abroad.)C. Notice The Sinner Is A Wayward Man (V.8) "Sinners" This word means "to miss the mark." It carries the idea of an archer aiming at a bulls eye to the best of his ability, shooting his arrow and then missing the whole target. It pictures man as he tries and fails his way through life. No matter how good man tries to be, he can never be good enough. Though he may aim high, and set high standards, still he always falls short of God's standard. Man always misses the mark.

(Ill. This is why attempting to get to Heaven by good works will never work. Man can never be good enough to get himself to God! No matter how close he comes, he will always fall short. To be almost right is to be forever wrong!)

D. Notice The Sinner Is A Warlike Man. (V.10) "Enemies" The word means "an adversary". Basically, what the Bible is telling us is that when we are lost, we are in the devil's camp. We are opposed to God and we are the enemy of God. No matter how much a man may talk of loving the Lord, if that man is unsaved, he is a liar! God says the lost are His enemies.

III. Consider the Amuch more@ of His Present! (V.15)A. Notice the Reason for the gift!

1. The gift of God became necessary because of Adam's transgression (V.12). Sin MUST BE PAID FOR and because of grace, God sent His Son to pay for our sins. (V.9-11) tells us that this gift brings:

a.] Reconciliation; "reconciled" This word means "to take enemies and make them into friends." No longer are we in opposition to God. We have been brought together through the blood of Jesus! God has called a truce and put away the battle flags. We are no longer fighting, but we are at peace with God. b.] Rejoicing;"We joy in God" That is, because these things are true. Because we are saved and secure in our salvation, we are filled with praise to the King. My friends, if there was ever a reason to praise the Lord, God has given it to you today through His Word.

B. Notice the Reality of the gift!1. The gift is Full!2. The gift is Free!3. The Gift is Forever!4. The gift is For everybody!5. The gift is From Christ!

IV. Consider the Amuch more@ of His Praise! (V.17)1. This speaks of Christ Glory, and of how we are partakers of that glory Notice 2 things about this Glory;

A. Notice the Receiving of this Glory.1. When we got saved we become partakers of His glory! We areAmade the righteousness of God in him.@ (2 Cor. 5:21).

B. Notice the Responsibility of this Glory!1. As believers, our lives should reflect the glory of God.

V. Consider the Amuch more@ of His Privilege! (V.20)A. Notice there is Saving Grace. (V.1,8-11,20)

Page 17: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

B. Notice there is Sustaining Grace. (V.2-6,17)1. We know that if we saved we will get to heaven but I want to apply this verse in the light of life here. If you have saving grace you have sustaining grace no matter how dark, discouraging depressing, defeating , or disheartening our circumstances are.

Romans Chapter: 7Key Verse: 4The Key Spiritual Thought:The problem of a mixture of law and grace in the gospel!(Rom7:1-25)Intro: The law was a major problem in preaching the gospel in the early church. Today the Mosaic law is

seldom a problem, however in principle it is, namely the problem of works for salvation. Those who believed here that one was saved of kept saved by keeping the law is simply another way of saying you were saved by works. But the doctrine of works will never find support in the scriptures!

I. Consider the Comparison of the law to the Christian here. (V.1-6)1. Paul compares the case of law and the gospel to the marriage laws.

A. Notice the Principle of the law Declared. (V.1)B. Notice the Picture from the law Described. (V.2-3)

1. The Rule of Marriage law. (V.2a)2. The Release of Marriage law (V.2b)

Page 18: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

3. The Restriction of Marriage law. (V.3)C. Notice the Parallel of the law is Developed. (V.4-6)

1. He Declares our Precious Marriage to the Savior. (V.4)2. He Details our Past Motions under Sin. (V.5)3. He Describes our Present Ministry of Service. (V.6)

II. Consider the Character of the law to the Christless here. (V.7-13)1. The good character of the law is amplified here to counter the idea that the law was faulty in character.

A. Notice by Design the law Exposes Sin. (V.7)1. The Light it Provides. (V.7a)2. The Lust it Prohibited. (V.7b)3. The Law it Presents. (V.7c)

B. Notice by Dominion the law Excites Sin. (V.8)1. It Reveals sin=s Effect! (V.8a)2. It Reveals sin=s Emergence! (V.8b)

C. Notice by Death the law Establishes Sin. (V.9-11)1. The Clarity of Paul=s Testimony. (V.9)2. The Course of Paul=s Tragedy. (V.10-11)

a.] The Sure Danger of sin. (V.11a)b.] The Sudden Deception of sin. (V.11b)c.] The Shocking Death in sin (V.11c)

D. Notice by Definition the law Explains Sin. (V.12-13)1. The law=s Estimation! (V.12) 2. The law=s Explanation! (V.13)

III. Consider the Conflict of the law to the Carnal. (V.14-25)1. Paul presents a conflict which the cannot solve. It shows the weakness of the law though the law was good.

A. Notice the Problem with the new Life. (V.14-16)1. Notice how he Perceived the life of Grace. (V.14)2. Notice how he Proceeded to live for God. (V.15)3. Notice how he Proved the law was Good. (V.16)

B. Notice the Perplexity in the new Liberty. (V.17-20)1. The Problem of sin. (V.17)2. The Poverty of self. (V.18)3. The Pity of service. (V.19)4. The Paradox in the situation. (V.20)

C. Notice the Persistence of a new Law (V.21-25)1. The Revelation. (V.21)2. The Revelry. (V.22-23)3. The Realization. (V.24)4. The Rescue. (V.25)

Romans Chapter 8Key Verse: 1 & 28Key Spiritual Thought:What the law Could not do the Grace of God could do!

The Consideration Of Condemnation!(Rom.8:1-39 Text V.1)

Intro:THIS chapter is one of the most interesting and precious portions of the sacred Scriptures. Some parts of it are attended with great difficulties; but its main scope and design is apparent to all. It is a continuation of the subject discussed in the previous chapter, and is intended mainly to show that what the Law could not do the gospel could.

1. Jesus said in (Joh 3:18) He that believeth on him is not condemned: but he that believeth not is condemned already, because he hath not believed in the name of the only begotten Son of God. My question is CONDEMNED OR NOT CONDEMNED? 2. Compare (V.1) of our text to this verse in (Joh.3:18) the word Condemned means; Pronounced to be wrong, guilty, worthless or forfeited; adjudged or sentenced to punishment. [Webster=s]3. I have heard some say your condemning me, if your not saved judgement has already been

Page 19: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

pronounced, and you sentence is pending. You are condemned already! With that in mind let us consider the question Condemned Or not Condemned?4. If and when a person gets saved they are a new creature. (2Co 5:17) Therefore if any man be in Christ, he is a new creature: old things are passed away; behold, all things are become new.

I. Consider the saved have a new Walk. (V.1)1. (V.1) tells us the saved man will A...not walk after the flesh...@ he will not pursue a path to fulfill the lust of the flesh. However the saved man will pursue the will of the Spirit. A...but after the Spirit.@2. Someone says preacher I am saved preacher but they want the things of the world, the bible says in (1Jo 2:15) Love not the world, neither the things that are in the world. If any man love the world, the love of the Father is not in him.3. Some say I have no idea what the Spirit wants. (V.8-9)

A. Notice our walk speaks of our Desire. 1. The bible says in (Pr 6:13) That a man A...speaketh with his feet...@ in other words actions speak louder than words.2. No need for a person to tell me they love God and want the power of the Spirit, and then live fleshly. (V.5)

B. Notice our walk speaks of our Direction. 1. With the mouth many say I am headed for heaven, but their walk says I am headed for hell.

II. Consider the saved have a new Way. (V.2-4)1. What the law could not do Jesus could, what was it the law could not do? Save the sinner! (Ga.2:16) Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the faith of Jesus Christ, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the faith of Christ, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified.2. The law condemned, Jesus cleansed the sinner;

A. Notice the saved have a new Lord.B. Notice the saved have a new way to Live.C. Notice the saved have a new way to Love.

III. Consider the saved have a new Will. (V.5-9)1. What I mean by this is we no longer live for self, we live for the Saviour. We have a new way of thinking (V.6) 2. The bible says in (Ro 12:1-2) I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that ye present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable unto God, which is your reasonable service. 2 And be not conformed to this world: but be ye transformed by the renewing of your mind, that ye may prove what is that good, and acceptable, and perfect, will of God.

A. Notice when we do God=s will we show the world God=s will is Good.B. Notice when we do God=s will we show the world God=s will is Acceptable.C. Notice when we do God=s will we show the world God=s will is Perfect.

IV. Consider the saved have a new Worship. (V.10-13)1. All men worship something! But not all worship God, sadly not even all of the saved worship God. Here in these verses Paul makes a comparison.

A. Notice the saved no longer worship Self. (V.10-11)B. Notice the saved worship the Saviour. (V12-13)

V. Consider the saved have a new Witness. (V.14-17)1. One who is genuinely saved will not have to bare witness of himself the Holy Spirit will be his witness.

A. Notice the Distinction made here (V.14-15)1. Consider the Characteristics of this witness.

a.} (v.14) AFor as many as are led by the Spirit of God, they are the sons of God.@ As submitted to his influence and control. The Spirit is represented as influencing, suggesting, and controlling. One evidence of piety is, a willingness to yield to that influence, and submit to him.

2. Consider the Comparison of this witness. (V.14)a.} Those that are Aled by the Spirit of God ... are the sons of God.@ so one could say those who are not led of the Spirit of God are not the sons of God!

3. Consider the Contrast made here. (V.15)B. Notice the Declaration made here. (V.16-17)

VI. Consider the saved have a new Warfare. (V.17-18)

Page 20: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

1. The introduction of the subject of suffering regarding the inheritance of the believer leads to the amplification of the subject of the suffering of the saints.

A. Notice the Explanation of this suffering. (V.17-18)1. The explanation of this suffer is in reference to the experiences of the saved in their identification with Christ in this present life.

B. Notice the Exaltation from the suffering. (V.18)1. This glory is Unequaled.2. This glory is Unearthly.3. This glory is Unending.

VII. Consider The Saved have a new Warranty. (V.19-39) 1. Salvation brings hope. The previous verses began the subject of hope, and in these verses we see the subject of hope amplified. The message of the gospel provides the best basis of hope to the believer.

A. Notice the assurance of the believer=s Sonship! (V.14-27)1. We have a new Family. (V.14)2. We have a new Father. (V.15)3. We have a new Fortune. (V.16-17)4. We have a new Future. (V.18-27)

B. Notice the assurance of the believer=s Salvation. (V.28-39)1. The Basis of our Salvation. (V.28-30)

a.] There is the Witness that Comforts the saved. (V.28)b.] There is the Work that Confirms the saved. (V.29-30)

2. The Blessing of our Salvation. (V. 31-39)a.] Notice the Substitution. (V. 31-32)b.] Notice the Satisfaction. (V. 33-34)

1. There is no Charge can be leveled. (V.33)2. There is no Condemnation can be labeled. (V.34)

c.] Notice the Security. (V.35-39)1. There is the Conquerors in Christ. (V.35-37)2. There is the Confidence in Christ. (V.38-39)

Romans Chapter 9Key Verse: 3Key Spiritual Thought: Our great obligation to the lost! Laden For The Lost Romans 9:1-5Intro: In these opening verses of chapter 9, Paul reveals his heart for his people the Jews. In doing so, he teaches us a lesson about the kind of heart we should have for the lost around us tonight.I. Consider a Great Obligation to the Lost (V. 1-3)1. These first three verses really expose Paul's heart for those who are lost in Israel. For eight chapters, Paul has been revealing truth that is thrilling to anyone who is saved by grace, but truth which is devastating to the unbeliever, especially to the unbelieving Jew. Because he had been the recipient of such great amounts of truth, he felt an obligation to reach out to those who did not know the Lord Jesus Christ as their Savior. Notice the burden on Paul's heart as he lays it bear in these verses.

A. Notice His Honesty. (V. 1) 1. All lost people, but especially the Jew, have looked with distrust and doubt at the message of the cross. Paul has shared a lot of truth. Truth that if taken literally proved that outside of a personal relationship with Jesus Christ there was no hope of salvation.

B. Notice His Heaviness. (V. 2)1. Paul now tells his readers that his life is paralyzed by constant grief. The words used here refer to those who are overcome by mourning. Did you know that this is the kind of burden that we should all be under for the sinner tonight? We are surrounded by millions of people who are headed to Hell and often the church acts like she does not care.

C. Notice His Hunger. (V. 3)1. Here in this verse, Paul makes a statement that is astounding! He says that if it were possible, he

would allow himself to be separated from God and sentenced to Hell if it would save the lost Jews! That is an amazing statement! Friend, Paul isn't joking! He meant that thing!

II. Consider a Great Opportunity. (V. 4-5b)

A. Notice God=s Gifts. (V. 4-5a) 1. Israel had been the partakers of many gifts from God. That had been given truth and revelation. They were in a special covenant relationship with Him and were considered to be His people. All of the Old Testament prophets and prophesies were given to them. All of the promises concerning the Messiah and the coming kingdom were given to them. The people of Israel had been given more light than any people group in their world.

B. Notice God=s Grace. (V. 5b)1. When Messiah did come, He was born from among them as one of their own. No other people had ever had such a privilege! I would rather go to Hell from anywhere on this planet than to do so from the pew of a Bible believing, fundamental Baptist church! To sin against such light will surely require a great judgment!)

III. Consider a Great Observation. (V. 5c)Ill. Paul ends this section with a doxology of sorts. He reminds his readers that this Jesus he is preaching is no ordinary man. He closes this section by reminding us Who Jesus is! May we never forget this great Lord we serve and love!

A. Notice the Person of Christ.1. Paul calls Him "Christ". This is a word that means "Anointed". Paul is simply reminding us that Jesus is the fulfillment of all the Old Testament prophecies concerning the Messiah.

B. Notice the Power of Christ.1. Paul says that He is "over all". We must remember that Jesus is the agent of creation, John 1:3. We must remember that He possesses "all power in heaven and in earth.", Since He has that kind of awesome power, we can trust Him to be able to do everything He has promised us He can and will do.

C. Notice the Position of Christ. Awho is over all, God blessed, for ever"Romans Chapter 10Key Verse: 10Key Spiritual Thought: Whosoever will call upon the Lord can and shall be saved!

Who Hath Believed Our Report?(Rom.10:1:17 Text V.16)

Intro: Here in Romans 10 we have what is called by many the Romans road to salvation. I don=t know about that but I do know it is God=s way of salvation! Paul opens the Ch. With an illustration of his love for his countrymen Israel. We do know he loved them deeply (Rom.9:1-3) where he states he would be willing to go to hell for them. However every man must believe the report (v.16) or suffer the results!1. Thank God the bible says in (Ps 145:18) The LORD is nigh unto all them that call upon him, to all that call upon him in truth.2. The Lord also promised us in (Isa 45:22) Look unto me, and be ye saved, all the ends of the earth: for I am God, and there is none else.3. In (V.16) of our text Paul asked the question Who hath believed our report? What did Paul report?I. Paul reported salvation is Unmerited. (V.1-4)1. Paul said in (Eph.2:8,9) For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: 9 Not of works, lest any man should boast. He also said in (Tit 3:5) Not by works of righteousness which we have done, but according to his mercy he saved us, by the washing of regeneration, and renewing of the Holy Ghost;2. Notice in (V.3) we see they were trying to establish their own righteousness how were they doing this? By trying to live by the law but notice (V.4)3. Remember (Rom3:19-28) Now we know that what things soever the law saith, it saith to them who are under the law: that every mouth may be stopped, and all the world may become guilty before God. 20 Therefore by the deeds of the law there shall no flesh be justified in his sight: for by the law is the knowledge of sin. 21 But now the righteousness of God without the law is manifested, being witnessed by the law and the prophets; 22 Even the righteousness of God which is by faith of Jesus Christ unto all and upon all them that believe: for there is no difference: 23 For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; 24 Being justified freely by his grace through the redemption that is in Christ Jesus: 25 Whom God hath set forth to be a propitiation through faith in his blood, to declare his righteousness for the remission of sins that are past, through the forbearance of God; 26 To declare, I say, at this time his righteousness: that he might be just, and the justifier of him which believeth in Jesus. 27 Where is boasting then? It is excluded. By what law? Of works? Nay: but by the law of faith. 28 Therefore we conclude that a man is justified by faith without the deeds of the law.

4. The Law of God was not designed to justify it is designed to condemn; it is our teacher it teaches us what sin is. (Ga 3:24) Wherefore the law was our schoolmaster to bring us unto Christ, that we might be justified by faith. (1Jo 3:4) Whosoever committeth sin transgresseth also the law: for sin is the transgression of the law.

A. Salvation is a Free gift. (Rom.3:24)B. Salvation is Full gift. (Ec 3:14) I know that, whatsoever God doeth, it shall be forever: nothing can be put to it, nor any thing taken from it: and God doeth it, that men should fear before him.C. Salvation is a Forever gift. (Joh 10:28) And I give unto them eternal life; and they shall never perish, neither shall any man pluck them out of my hand.

II. Paul reported salvation is Unique. (V.6-8, 17)1. Salvation is unique because it is by FAITH! (Eph.2:8) one man said Faith does not ask where God is, faith excepts God knowing that He is!2. Notice (V.17) We are saved by believing the word of God, not by feelings because feelings change were are saved when we take and trust God at his word which never changes. (1Pe 1:23) Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth forever. This means:

A. God=s salvation is Unequaled in it=s Deliverance.B. God=s salvation is Unmatched in it=s Deliver.C. God=s salvation is Unparalleled in it Delight.

III. Paul reported salvation is Unconditional. (V.9, 10)1. In these 2 verses God gives every requirement of salvation in there entirety, there is no more nor no less required to be saved!

A. Notice God=s salvation is Absolute, its Unquestionable, its Certain. (V.9) A...thou shalt be saved.@

B. Notice God=s salvation is Abundant, its Unreserved, Unrestricted, its Conclusive. (V.9) A...thou shalt be saved.@C. Notice God=s salvation is Assured, its Unequivocal (no doubt), its Clear. (V.9) D. Notice God=s salvation is Actual, its Unmistakable, its Complete. (V.9, 10)

IV. Paul reported salvation is Unlimited. (V.11-13)1. There is a doctrine called Hyper-Calvinism which teaches that some are predestine to heaven and some for hell. But notice the word Awhosoever@ it means : [who, so, and ever.] Any one; any person. each, every, any, all, the whole, everyone, all things, everything, all men, every man.2. Someone may say preacher I have sinned to much, I cant be saved my reply is (V.13) For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved.

A. God=s salvation is Immense.1. The Savior is immense.2. The Sacrifice is immense.3. The Supply is immense.

B. God=s salvation is Immeasurable.C. God=s salvation is Inexhaustible

V. Paul reported salvation is Universal. (V.12-17)1. Notice (V.12) For there is no difference between the Jew and the Greek: for the same Lord over all is rich unto all that call upon him. Salvation is provided, and provided for ALL!! (Joh.3:16)

A. Notice salvation is Entire.B. Notice salvation is Extensive.C. Notice salvation is Embracing.D. Notice salvation is Endless.

Close: The bible says in (Jude 1:3) Beloved, when I gave all diligence to write unto you of the common salvation, it was needful for me to write unto you, and exhort you that ye should earnestly contend for the faith which was once delivered unto the saints. God said salvation is Acommon not ordinary, but belonging to many, salvation is Received the same way and Rejected the same way.1Romans Chapter 11Key Verse: 1&2Key Spiritual Thought: Israel RestorationGod’s Prophetic Promise To Israel!(Rom.11:1-36)

Intro: THIS chapter consists of two parts, vs. 1-10, and 11-36. In the former the apostle teaches that the rejection of the Jews was not total. There was a remnant, and perhaps a much larger remnant than many might suppose, excepted, although the mass of the nation, agreeably to the predictions of the prophets, was cast off, vs. 1-10. Romans Chapter 14Key Verse: #7Key Spiritual Thought: The Responsibility we have to our fellow brethren.

Responsibility Verses Rights.(Rom14:1-23 Text V. 7)

Intro: THE fourteenth chapter is designed to settle some difficult and delicate questions that could not but arise between the Jews and Gentiles respecting food and the observance of particular days, rites, etc. The occasions of these questions were these: The converts to Christianity were from both Jews and Gentiles. There were many Jews in Rome; and it is probable that no small part of the church was composed of them. The New Testament everywhere shows that they were disposed to bind the Gentile converts to their own customs, and to insist on the observance of the peculiar laws of Moses. See #Ac 15:1,2, Ga 2:3,4. The subjects on which questions of this kind would be agitated, were circumcision, days of fasting, the distinction of meats, etc. A part of these only are discussed in this chapter. The views of the apostle in regard to circumcision had been stated in chapters 3 and 4. In this chapter he notices the disputes which would be likely to arise on the following subjects: 1. The use of meat? Evidently referring to the question whether it was lawful to eat the meat that was offered in sacrifice to idols, (Ro 14:2). 2. The distinctions and observances of the days of Jewish fasting’s, (Ro 14:5, 6). 3. The laws observed by the Jews in relation to animals as clean or unclean, (Ro. 14:14). It is probable that these are mere specimens adduced by the apostle to settle principles of conduct in regard to the Gentiles, and to show to each party how they ought to act in all such questions. I. Consider the Addressing of the Unconditional Reception of the Saved. (V.1-9)

A. Notice the Proclamation of Christian Unity. (V.1)1. Note the Message. (V1a)2. Note the Manner. (V.1b) Note the “disputations” Means: The act of disputing; a reasoning or argumentation in opposition to something, or on opposite sides; controversy in words; verbal contest,

The Ministry Of the Gospel Of God!(Rom.15:1-33 Text V.16)

Intro: The ministry to the “weak in the faith” (Ch.14:1) is concluded in this chapter and followed by instructions regarding the ministry of Christ.I. Consider the Ministry of the Mature. (V.1-7)

Romans Chapter 16Key Verse 25Key Spiritual Thought: Commendation! Meaning: 1The act of commending; praise; favorable representation in words; declaration of esteem

Commendation For The Faithful Christians!(Rom.16:1-27)

Intro: The epistle concludes with various salutations.I. Consider the Endorsement. (V.1-2)

1. Paul begins his closing of the epistle with a recommendation to the Church about a Christian woman who is coming their way. What we have in these first two verses is a letter of commendation. The word "commend" means to "introduce or recommend to another." Paul is taking the time to introduce Phebe to the believers in Rome.

A. Notice she is called a Sister. (V.1)1. This speaks of her relationship with the Father.2. This speaks of her relationship with the Family.

B. Notice she is called a Servant. (V.1-2)II. Consider the Embrace. (Vs. 3-16 & 21-23)

1. As Paul comes to the end of the book of Romans, he concludes it with a list of names that is rather long. In fact, there are 35 names mentioned in these verses. He also addresses two different households and at least three churches. Many people might read this list and conclude that there is nothing of value contained here. But, the truth is far different. 2. What we have here is Paul making an effort to thank those who had made and impact on his life and ministry. What a blessing it is when we remember those who have made a difference in our lives! What Paul is doing is summed up in (V.15). He sends greetings to "all the saints that are with them." He doesn't want to leave anyone out, but he wants to send a special thanks to every saint who has been a blessing to him.

A. Notice these are Definite Saints. (V3-16 & 21-23)B. Notice these are Diverse Saints.

1. They Were Diverse In Their Humanity - As Paul mentions these names, one can almost see him visualizing these saints one by one. They were precious to his heart and he longed to greet them personally. Note what he says in verse 16, "Salute one another with an holy kiss." Apparently, this was the accepted method of greeting in those days. In our day, thankfully, we just shake hands!2. They Were Diverse In Their Heritage - In these verses, Paul greets Jews, Greeks, Romans and Persians. He greets people from all kinds of racial and societal backgrounds. In Christ, these people, from these varied backgrounds are all made one!

C. Notice these are Dedicated Saints.1. Note it is Seen In Their Service - Notice the kinds of service that is mentioned in these verses. There are the workers, v. 3, 21; there are the toilers, v. 6; there are the writers, v. 22; there are the givers, v. 23; and there are the administrators, v. 23. They all served in various capacities, but they served!2. Note it is Seen In Their Sacrifice - Notice again verse 4. Aquila and Priscilla were willing to give their all so that the work of God might go forward. There is too little of that spirit in the modern church! People will give, but not until it hurts. They will come, but not if it becomes and inconvenience. They will work, but only if it doesn't impinge on their private time.

III. Consider the Exhortation. (V. 17-20)1. Ever since the church was formed, she has been plagued by troublemakers. These people have desired to either see the church destroyed, or to see it shaped to their own will. This should not have been a surprise. After all, Jesus Himself predicted the rise of troublemakers in the church, (Matt. 7:15) "Beware of false prophets, which come to you in sheep's clothing, but inwardly they are ravening wolves." Even in the early days of the fledgling church, the Apostle Paul said this, "For I know this, that after my departing shall grievous wolves enter in among you, not sparing the flock. Also of your own selves shall men arise, speaking perverse things, to draw away disciples after them.", (Acts 20:29-30)

A. Notice the Deeds of the Troublemakers. 1. Note They Are Divisive - Paul uses two words here that describe what the troublemakers so in the house of God. The first is the word "divisions". It means "to splinter or cause dissensions." The other

Page 27: To Roma…  · Web viewREVEALED REDEMPTION IN BOOK ROMANS . THE GREAT DOCTRINAL PLATFORM. KEY VERSE: ROMANS 1:16,17. For I am not ashamed of the gospel of …

word is "offences", it means "to lay a trap or snare in the path of another to cause them to stumble." We get our word "scandal" from this word.2. Note They Are Dishonest - Verse 18 tells us that these people may pretend to have pure motives and the good of the church at heart, but there are two problems with their profession. For they that are such serve not our Lord Jesus Christ, but their own belly; and by good words and fair speeches deceive the hearts of the simple.3. Note They Are Deceptive - 18b - These people have a way with words and they use their ability to twist the truth the deceive the "simple." The word "simple" does not refer to stupid people. The word means "Fearing no evil from others, distrusting no one." It would speak of those believers who have not matured enough to know that everything that sounds good isn't always good.

B. Notice the Direction for Troublemakers. 1. Note They Are To Be Examined - Paul says to "mark" them. It means "to look at, observe, contemplate; to fix one's eyes and attention upon someone or something." The idea here is that we are to watch the enemy lest he slip in on us and cause problems in the church. We are to keep our eyes open against those who would infiltrate the church of God!2. Note They Are To Be Excluded - Paul's second command is very clear. He says that we are to "avoid them" (V.17). He is telling us that we are to have no fellowship with those who would cause trouble in the church! The word literally means "to turn away."

C. Notice the Defense against Troublemakers. (V.19)D. Notice the Destruction of Troublemakers. (V.20)

IV. Consider the Exaltation. (V.24-27)1. As Paul concludes his letter to Rome, he becomes so filled up with praise to the Lord for His blessings that he bursts forth in a "doxology."

A. Notice a word of Grace. (V.24)B. Notice the word about the Gospel. (V.25)C. Notice there is a word of Glory. (V.26-27)
