Wyoming Mini-Timeline

• 1743--French Canadians Francois and Louis Joseph de la Verendrye become the first known whites to enter present-day Wyoming.

• 1803--Most of Wyoming, as part of the Louisiana Purchase, becomes United States territory.

• 1842-1843--Jim Bridger opens the Fort Bridger trading post. • 1858--Fort Bridger becomes a military fort. • 1906--Devil’s Tower becomes the nation’s first national monument.• 1925--Wyoming elects the country’s first woman governor. Nellie

Tayloe Ross is elected to complete the term of her husband, who died in office.

• 1990--Wyoming’s 100th Birthday! President George Bush attends a centennial celebration at the State Capitol building in Cheyenne.

• 2000--Wyoming Senator Dick Cheney was elected Vice President of the United States.

Wyoming is special because almost my whole family lives here. My Aunt, my Uncle, my Grandma,and my Grandpa live here. I like it because I have lots of friends at school. There are lots of important monuments in Wyoming, too. I like my soccer team a lot also.

Wyoming TourismWhile you’re in Wyoming you must see…

• Yellowstone National Park, because it has wonderful sites.

• Devils Tower,because it’s the first national monument.

• Old Faithful at night, because it’s amazing.

• Yellowstone Falls, because it’s big.

• The Frontier Days Parade, because there are so many different people and animals.

• Wyoming has the most people mining than any other state.

• Wyoming also mines the most trona and bentonite in the country.

• Wyoming only gets beat in mining coal by nine other countries.

• There are about 9,000 farms in Wyoming.

• Arizona is the only state with bigger farms.
