Release Notes

Sample files Sample wysiwyg files are provided with the installation for you to use as examples or

references. There are sample AutoCAD files, report heading files, as well as several files

from various disciplines. These files can be found in the \Samples folder where you installed

wysiwyg (e.g., C:\Program Files (x86)\CAST Software\WYSIWYG Release 37\Samples).

Template files Template files are provided with the installation for you to use as desired. There are several

basic templates such as plot, studio, and theatre files. These files can be found in the

Templates folder where you installed wysiwyg (for example, C:\Program Data\CAST

Software\WYSIWYG Release 37\Templates).

CAST Forum CAST has launched the CAST Forum, http://forums.cast-soft.com/. The Forum is open to

everyone and aims to serve both CAST product users as well as the entire entertainment and

event production community, it is not just about CAST products. Forum members can post

projects, ask questions, get technical support from the community or just browse to see

Useful information

wysiwyg compatibility with Vivien-Virtual Event Designer Are you a Lighting Designer who manages venue layouts, produces events, or liaises with

event planners/designers or service providers?

wysiwyg is compatible with Vivien-Virtual Event Designer, CAST Software’s award-winning

special events planning and design software tool. You can create your shows in wysiwyg

Page 4: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

and then open the files in Vivien to make use of its automated Wizards for adding event

items, such as seating areas, tables, and chairs.

You can use Vivien Virtual Event Designer to increase your planning efficiency. Vivien is the

sales, planning, design, and production tool designed for the meeting and special events

industry. LDs can use it for creating quick concepts to demonstrate their ideas. As wysiwyg

deals with the stage, Vivien deals with the venue. Both wysiwyg and Vivien:

Feature simplified CAD tools to plot or lay out floor spaces or lighting plans

Deliver photorealistic renderings of these drawings

Contain 1000s of library objects designed for the industry

Share the same reliable, robust base code

Deliver eye-popping visuals

Provide wizards for common tasks

Vivien file version compatibility Due the differing release schedules of Vivien and wysiwyg, a Vivien 2016 file will open in wysiwyg R37 (original release), but a Vivien 2016 (original release) installation will not open an R37 file; it can open files saved back to R36 format. Note, to open a wysiwyg file and display fixtures and truss in Vivien, please download and install the wysiwyg Compatibility Pack before opening the file.

Operating system compatibility

wysiwyg is not supported on Windows XP or Windows Vista

Since Microsoft support has now ended for Windows XP and very few customers ever use

Windows Vista, wysiwyg Release 37 is NOT supported on either the Windows XP or Windows

Vista operating system. In fact, it does not install or run on Windows XP or Windows Vista.

wysiwyg Release 37 is supported on Windows 7, Windows 8.1 and Windows 10.

OpenGL-accelerated “gaming-level” video card, with 3GB (or better) video memory and OpenGL 3.3 support required for Deferred Rendering simulation and Volumetric Beams in Shaded Views

No integrated video cards should be considered for such a system

Free USB port

Hard drive compatibility Due to restrictions in file name length, you cannot install wysiwyg on a FAT32-formatted

hard drive. Instead, you must install the product on an NTFS-formatted hard drive. For

details, see https://www.cast-soft.com/cast/downloads/download-install.php

Video card compatibility There are two levels of beam simulation offered in wysiwyg's Shaded Views.

Enhanced Beams: The minimum video card requirements to display the default

Enhanced Beams must support OpenGL 2.1.

Volumetric Beams: To obtain the highest graphics level offered by Deferred

Rendering with Enhanced Visualization, your video card must support OpenGL 3.3 or

better.

Note: Both Enhanced Visualization and Deferred Rendering options are required to

run Volumetric Beams. If these options are not available on your system, it means

the graphics card on your computer does not support the necessary version of

OpenGL to run Volumetric Beams. In this instance, you must use Enhanced Beams for

your Shaded View visualization.

Membership requirements for Release 37 Your wysiwyg dongle membership must be valid at least until June 2016 (or later) to run

the wysiwyg Release 37.

Customer Experience Improvement Program (CEIP)

CAST is always looking for new ways to improve its products in order to provide the best

software for you, our customers. Around 2.5 years ago, we introduced the Customer

Experience Improvement Program (CEIP) into our products; it is a new way to allow our

customers to contribute to the features, design and development of wysiwyg, and we

encourage everyone to turn the CEIP feature on.

Please note the following: 1. The information collected is analyzed for trends and helps us make decisions on how to plan our efforts to improve our software. 2. All information collected is anonymous. 3. When enabled, the CEIP program runs automatically in the background, and will not interfere with your work in any way. We look forward to your help! Thank you. CAST Development Team

New Features and Enhancements

General Application Enhancements

New Enhancements

wysiwyg Projects To better organize your work, wysiwyg R37 offers a new "Project" option on the Welcome Screen and in the File menu. When saving your work as a wysiwyg Project, the software stores the .wyg file and all its associated files in a folder structure automatically (for your convenience) within the My Projects folder, which is found in a folder path similar to this example: C:\Users\<UserName>\Documents\WYSIWYG Files\My Projects\, or the path and location that you will specify.

Additionally, a wysiwyg Project can be packaged as a zip file (with option to select the files to package, and the option to include the external images and videos used in the file), so sharing your work with this zip package feature is much easier and includes all associated files.

Figure 5 - Package Project as dialog which appears when user choose to Package Project as Zip.

Layer Database Enhancements The Layer Database is one of the most important windows in wysiwyg, as it helps you manage the contents of your file, and it has been updated with a bunch of new enhancements to deliver more layer options to better manage your wysiwyg files.

Layer Groups: The Layer Database now supports Layer Groups. The Layer Groups will organize layers into groups.

o Select one or more layers that you wish to group together, and click on the "New

Group" button at the top of the Layer Database.

o With Layer Groups, making edits to the properties on each Layer in the group is simple. On the top row of any Layer Group, setting a property such as its Color, or Editable/Visible state, will be assigned to all listed Layers in the Layer Group. This also works with other Layer Properties such as Line Weight, Notes, Tag, Print Color and Greyscale.

o Managing the Layer Database and its displayed Layers is also very easy. Use the

arrow at the far left side of the Layer Database to

expand/collapse and Layer Group, or use the Expand All/Collapse All buttons

at the top of the Layer Database to do so for all Layer Groups.

o To move one Layer from one group to another group, highlight the layer (or multiple layers, if you wish to move many layers), from any highlighted row start a click and drag from its Layer Name or Current Layer column that is NOT the active cell (i.e. with border around it), moving the selected layers into another Layer Group. The Layer Properties dialog now lists a Layer Group dropdown which you can use to specify which Layer Group the Layer should be listed in.

o To delete a Layer Group, select the Layer Group and click on the Delete button at the top of the Layer Database. A Warning dialog will be displayed to inform that all layers in this group will be returned to the Ungrouped Layer Group.

o For anyone who does not want to use Layer Groups, toggle this feature off by right-clicking in the Layer Database and unchecking the Layer Group (2nd from the bottom). This can also be achieved from the option in Document Options > General tab, “Enable Layer Groups”.

o As a result of the new Layer Group feature, all object property dialogs and many other functional dialogs (e.g. Scene Database) in wysiwyg which display Layers will now have a new checkbox at the bottom “Display with Layer Groups”. Enable this option if you prefer to display the Layers with Layer Groups.

Figure 7 - Example of a Riser's property dialog, displaying Layer list organized by Layer Groups.

Print Color: This new option has been added to each Layer, offering the ability to set a print color which is different than the Layer Color. You may use this property if you wish to print the objects on this layer in a different color than the Layer Color, while still preserving the Layer Color within the file. Note: When defined, Print Color will be displayed in Layouts and New Plots tabs to preview the plot before printing, and on all printed plots.

Greyscale: This new toggle option has been added to each Layer, which overrides Layer Color and displays all objects on this layer in greyscale when enabled. You may use this property if you wish to display or print the objects on this layer in greyscale, while still preserving the Layer Color within the file.

Layer Highlight: This new option has been added to the Layer Database to highlight the current layer automatically, by keeping only the current layer displayed in its layer color, and displaying all other layers in greyscale. Essentially, it is an automatic “set to greyscale” for all layers which are not the current/active layer.

CAD Mode Features

New Features

Fixture Symbol Fill This new Fixture property was introduced to help identify fixtures in your drawing and plots. When enabled, this feature will fill the Fixture Symbol with one of three options: same color with a percentage of its intensity (default option), or with a custom color, or using the gel color that was attached to the fixture. These options are available in the Fixture Properties > General tab, and are set to “Use Document Defaults” by default. The Document Options for this feature are listed in the Document Options > Fixture Settings tab.

Figure 8 - Screenshot shows the updated Fixture Properties and Document Options > Fixture

Settings, displaying the new Fixture Symbol Fill options.

Please Note: There is an additional “Show Symbol Fill” option in the Document Options > Wireframe Details tab, which must be enabled to display the Fixture Symbol Fill. The option is a quick way to turn off Symbol fill without changing any fixture properties. (This option is equivalent to other similar toggles on this tab, such as Show Hatching.) Once the Symbol Fill feature is enabled, the 2D Fixture Symbols will be displayed as filled; in CAD Wireframes, this will be displayed in the 2D views only (Plan, Left, Right, Front, Back), and not in Isometric view.

New Dimensions and Enhancements Drawing Dimensions into your drawings and plots to display distances and angles is important to deliver the information required to build your show accurately. To offer more Dimension options for you, we have introduced the following:

Continue Dimension: These dimensions display sequential chains of linear measurements that are aligned to the first (base) measurement of the Continue dimension, always using the last point of the previous measurement as the initial point for next measurement.

o A new Continue Dimension “chain” can be started at any time, or can be continued by selecting an existing Linear Dimension and then starting the Continue Dimension command.

Page 16: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

© CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved.

o After drawing a Continue Dimension command, the objects are individual Linear Dimensions.

Baseline Dimension: These dimensions display linear measurements stacked above or below the base dimension while maintaining uniform spacing between, always using the first click as the initial coordinate for all subsequent measurements.

o A new Baseline Dimension “stack” can be started at any time, or can be continued by selecting an existing Linear Dimension and then starting the Baseline Dimension command.

o After the initial measurement is completed by the first two clicks, the next (3rd) click defines the direction of subsequent dimensions added during this operation (either above or below the first one).

o After completing a Baseline Dimension command, the objects are individual Linear Dimensions.

Rotate Dimension option (for Linear Dimensions): A new option has been added for Linear Dimensions to set a rotation angle that will rotate the extension lines about the dimension end points. The rotated Linear Dimension would then display the distance between the two points at the angle specified. This is equivalent to the Rotated Dimension in AutoCAD.

Figure 12 - Screenshot displaying results of setting a rotation angle to the Linear Dimension. In the

example, the 20'-0" Linear Dimension (angle = 0°) measures 16'-0" when angle = -36.9° rotation is

applied.

Import/Export Rotated Dimensions from/to DWG/DXF file: With the addition of the rotation angle property for Linear Dimensions, wysiwyg can now import and export Rotated Dimensions from/to DWG/DXF files.

Angle Dimension: This new dimension object measures and displays an angle, either between two intersecting lines and objects, or as drawn by the Freehand mode (like the previous Protractor Tool). The new Angle Dimension is shown above in Figure 12. (Note: The Protractor Tool has been removed, since it is replaced by the new Angle Dimension).

Angle Tool: This is a new tool, listed under the Tools menu with the Distance Tool. The Angle Tool measures the angle between two lines. After you start the tool, click twice to identify the two intersecting lines between which you wish to measure the angle. The measured angle is displayed in the Status bar, and in the Cursor’s Information Tooltip.

New Linear Dimension Options:

Multiple option: When drawing a Linear Dimension, right click to access

the new “multiple” option, which allows you to draw multiple Linear

Dimensions, using the last point of the previous measurement as the

initial point for next measurement. This is similar to drawing a line with

many segments.

Displayed Length: Enable this option and specify a value that you wish to

display as the length of the Linear Dimension.

Alternate Unit: Enable this option to display a second measurement with

your dimensions, in the alternate unit. For example, if metric is your set

unit, enable this option to display all of your dimensions with both metric

and imperial.

Text Offset: Specify a text offset distance to move the dimension text

above or below the dimension line. By default, this option is set to 0,

which positions the text in its traditional position, on the dimension line.

Fill option: use this new option to add a fill color behind the dimension

text.

Snap to Ends using Point Snap: The Linear Dimension end points have been

updated to be snappable points. To snap to the Dimension ends, enable

Point Snap.

Dash option for Imperial Dimensions: A new Dash option is available in Document Options > Dimensions. When enabled, wysiwyg displays all Linear Dimensions in the file with the new formatting like this, 19’- 3 11/16” instead of 19’3”11/16.

Figure 13 - Comparison of Imperial Dimensions display options, Original vs. Dash

Enhancements to LED Wizard and LED Wall Properties The LED Wizard has been updated to offer better accuracy, quality, and workflow when building LED Wall displays in your files.

Figure 14 - Screenshot of updated LED Wizard and LED Wall Properties.

5 significant digits: 5 significant digits after the decimal are used to define LED Walls in the LED Wizard and LED Wall Properties, which means it’s now possible to specify a pitch of 8.75mm (0.00875m).

Units Option: The Units option has been introduced and set to Metric by default, since LED display panels are usually specified in millimeters.

Pixel Detail: This detail slider has been introduced to control LED Wall quality vs. performance settings.

LED Wall Properties: The LED Wall Properties have been updated to include all the LED Wall dimensions and style settings available in Step 2 of the LED Wizard. This update allows multiple LED Wall objects to be selected and their properties edited all at once,*if all selected LED Walls are specified the same way, e.g. Dimensions and Pitch, and have the same dimensions*.

Moving / Nudging Fixtures Along Pipes And Straight Truss After hanging fixtures sometimes they have to be shifted a fixed distance along the hang structure. It is now possible to move or nudge one or more fixtures along pipes and straight truss (not curved truss).

Move: When you select fixtures only, a move command will allow fixtures to move along a pipe/straight truss.

o If fixtures are all on the same hang structure, line markers will appear to display where the fixtures will be positioned after the move.

o If fixtures are selected across different hang structures, a move operation can be completed but there will not be any line markers displayed. (Note: a move will be completed only if the fixtures can slide across the specified distance and still be positioned on the hang structure.)

o To move fixtures by an exact distance, use the @ operator and a positive or negative direction along the hang structure, e.g. @5 or @-5

Nudge: When you select fixtures only, fixtures can be nudged along a pipe/straight truss, as is possible with objects. Note, the nudge distance is the Snap Interval value defined in the Document Options > Hang Structure Settings.

o If fixtures are selected on one or more hang structures, nudging along the selected fixtures can be performed using ALT + LEFT / RIGHT / DOWN / UP arrow keys.

o Similarly, it is also possible to nudge fixtures by half the Snap Interval distance, by using SHIFT + ALT + LEFT / RIGHT / DOWN / UP arrow keys.

Support For Channel Selection On The Fixture Selection Toolbar The Fixture Selection toolbar now supports fixture selection by channel value, using "ch" to identify channel, e.g., ch 1-10.

Figure 15 - Example of selecting fixtures channel numbers on the Fixture Selection Toolbar.

New Features

Fixed Aspect Ratios For Cameras / Camera Paths

Camera and Camera Path objects now offer a fixed aspect ratio option. When an aspect ratio is set, letter bars or pillar bars will be used to maintain the desired aspect ratio.

Figure 16 - Screenshot of the updated Camera Properties showing new Aspect Ratio.

When exporting the Shaded View, the specified aspect ratios are maintained in the exported image.

Note: The World Camera will always be displayed without any aspect ratios; essentially, its aspect ratio is always set to “None”.

example, pillar bars are displayed at the sides of the Shaded View to display the view in the 16:9

aspect ratio.

I-Mag Camera A new video source option that displays the view of a drawn Camera, which can be applied to a Screen, LED Wall, Display Source for Video Projectors, or anything that will display video. Any camera drawn in wysiwyg can be selected as a video source from Screen properties, LED Wizard, LED Wall Properties, Display Source for Video Projectors, etc.

DMX Control of Cameras/Camera Paths With this new feature, it is possible to specify the active Camera/Camera Path of the Shaded View via DMX Control. The settings for this option are all available in the new Camera Manager.

Camera Manager A Camera Manager has been added under the View menu, offering a central location where camera properties can be specified for all Cameras and Camera Paths drawn in the file.

New Camera Defaults: Set default values for Layer, Field Angle and Aspect Ratio for any new cameras added to the drawing.

Override Aspect Ratio: Use this option to display all Cameras with the specified aspect ratio set by the Override all Cameras' Aspect Ratio - Display at dropdown. When the override is turned off, the individual aspect ratios of each Camera object will revert to their former values.

Dynamic Camera Control: Set values for DMX Universe and Address to control the switching between camera views in LIVE mode.

Camera and Camera Path Tables: Use the tables to set camera properties easily from the Camera Manager dialog.

Enable DMX Control of Cameras/Camera Paths: Use this option to control the switching between Cameras when in LIVE mode. Instead of selecting a camera from the camera toolbar or using the numpad hotkeys, you can change camera views in LIVE mode with the assigned value using a DMX console. For your convenience a button to toggle this option has been added to the Camera Toolbar.

Increased Rendering Resolution The maximum rendering resolution has been increased from 2048x2048 pixels to 4096x4096 pixels.

General Improvements

Smart Variables supported in Text Labels – When you wish to include text labels containing information listed in the Production Team Information table, you can now use smart variables %Variable Name% in the Text Label, and if this information is stored in the PTI table, it will be automatically displayed. For example, use %Director% and the name of the Director stored in the table will appear in the Text Label.

Managers Menu: A new menu, Managers, is now available in all Modes/Tabs, listing all the Managers, such as Image Manager, Video Manager, Camera Manager, etc.

Pipe Tape Printer: The Pipe Tape Printer feature has been updated to now support newer printer models with higher DPI settings, DPI=203, with the Serial Port. We recommend the Epson TM-T20II Direct Thermal Printer. Not all systems have a Serial Port, but this printer can be used with a Serial-to-USB cable for the time being. Also, the issue where “!a” appears on every line has been resolved.

SketchUp 2016 File Importing Supported

wysiwyg Release 37 will now import SketchUp files created in the latest SketchUp 2016

version.

Resolved Issues in wysiwyg R37 Update 1

1. Some users were unable to insert library items from the Library Browser or shortcuts

after opening a file.

This is now fixed. This affected only library items from the Library tab of the Library Browser

and had no effect on inserting fixtures, truss, etc.

2. Adding gels with names starting with “L” sometimes adds the wrong gel. This occurs most

commonly with Lee Cool LED gels being inserted in place of Lee Designer gels.

This is now fixed.

3. On some systems, Report and Worksheet objects in a Layout might be cut off at the top

and left corner by the rectangle.

This occurs only on some systems and only when system DPI is set to greater than 100%. This

issue is not resolved, but a workaround has been added. In the Item Properties of Report and

Worksheet objects, a new checkbox, “Corner Offset Adjustment”, and an associated number

field can be used to shift the content of Reports and Worksheets. Although the controls are in

the Item Properties dialog, they are application options and the same value applies to all

Report and Worksheet objects in all Layouts. The setting is saved between wysiwyg sessions.

4. The Gel Color option for fixture symbols does not save with the file. After reloading the

file, the fixture symbol is filled with a custom color.

This is now fixed.

5. After switching a video source from I-Mag to any other type of video source, such as

Video File, the video source type would remain I-Mag.

This is now fixed. It is possible to switch a video source from I-Mag to any other type.

6. Curved objects, such as a sphere, that simultaneously use a Video Source and apply

Texture Rotation may not display the video correctly in Shaded Views.

This is now fixed.

Resolved Issues in wysiwyg R37

7. Wireframe views in DESIGN and LIVE modes should be drawn respecting the Draw Order

(like in CAD Wireframe views).

This is now fixed. All wireframe views will now respect the Draw Order specified in Document

Options > Draw Defaults tab.

8. Linear Scale drawing doesn’t respect Document Options when set to “Draw from Start”

when Interactive mode is disabled.

This is now fixed. When Interactive mode is off and a Linear Scale is drawn, it will always

follow the Document Option settings.

9. Text label Anchor point not set properly during copy/paste, Move and other CAD

operations.

When performing a CAD operation, such as Move, on a Text Label, the insertion point during

this operation would not use the anchor point, and instead would always use the default

bottom-left corner as the label’s base point. This bug is now fixed.

10. Make the SHIFT+ENTER functionality consistent when editing text in the new Text Label

dialog and Text Label Properties.

SHIFT+ENTER and ENTER functionality is now the same in new Text Label dialog and Text

Label properties. When editing text, SHIFT+ENTER will go to the next line of text (i.e.

carriage return), meanwhile ENTER will be equivalent to clicking on the OK button on the

dialogs.

11. Fixture tooltip is missing Angle To Face, Horizontal and Throw Distance when assigned

to Focus Line/Arc.

This is now fixed. The Fixture tooltip will display this information now for Fixtures focused to

Focus Lines and Focus Arcs as is the case for Fixtures focused to Focus Positions.

12. All Pipe and Drape object property tabs are combined into one tab.

To simplify specifying its properties, all components of the Pipe and Drape object (i.e.

Upright, Cross Member, Drape), are now displayed on one tab in the Object Properties.

13. Fillet Tool does not work when a small radius is defined.

This issue is now resolved. Previously, when a Fillet radius of approx. 30mm was set, the

Fillet tool would group the two lines together but an arc of specified radius was not drawn.

This feature now works as expected.

14. When arraying Fixtures on some Truss pieces, the Fixtures are sometimes placed at

incorrect intervals.

Usually the issues are experienced with the second Fixture, and any Fixtures towards the end

of the Truss. Some trusses that were found to experience these errors are: Prolyte 30dl400,

66rl300, 30dl300; Eurotruss fd34-100, hd34-050; CLS 300mm Tri .75m. These arraying issues

are now fixed.

15. The Layer list in the Scene Database window is not sorted alphabetically by default and

does not remember sort settings.

This list is now sorted alphabetically by default. Additionally, when sorting is changed, the

sort settings are remembered.

16. In the Scene Database window, the “Float Selected Layers” option should be saved.

This has been fixed. This option is now saved with the file.

17. When deleting multiple layers, each layer that can't be deleted displays its own error

message.

This issue has been fixed. A message box appears listing all layers that cannot be deleted.

18. Some PNG images with transparent pixels do not show correctly in Gobo Preview and

Gobo (beam) footprint.

The alpha (transparency) channel is now supported for images used in custom gobos. Images

are first rendered onto a black background, meaning fully transparent pixels in custom gobos

are completely opaque. Different treatment of transparency can be achieved by editing the

image file in other software before import.

19. JPEG images with JFIF extension are not supported by wysiwyg.

This is no longer an issue. JFIF image files are supported by wysiwyg.

20. All images from a wysiwyg file are included when creating Insertables or saving selected

objects from a file.

This issue is now fixed. When creating an Insertable file or when Saving Selected Objects,

only images that are associated with the selected objects will be in the saved file.

21. Report Defaults are not working correctly for most Spreadsheets and Report columns.

This issue is now resolved. Defaults set in Document Options > Report Defaults will set the

default values for the appropriate columns in Spreadsheet views and Reports.

22. Reports require a refresh after current Scene is updated.

This issue is now fixed. Reports will be automatically refreshed after a Scene update.

23. Some Reports display incorrect Pan, Tilt, Spin values.

This is now fixed. The Pan, Tilt, and Spin columns will display correct angle values (in

degrees), as shown in Spreadsheet views.

24. Batch Printing is slow and may cause wysiwyg to be unresponsive.

This is now fixed. The setup dialog which appears for Batch Printing will appear immediately,

and the Batch Printing time will vary depending on the number of reports and types of

reports to be printed.

25. Batch Printing of Reports with multiple workbooks will only print last workbook of the

Report.

This issue has been resolved. When batch printing Reports with multiple workbooks (i.e.

Reports grouped by a column), all workbooks/tabs of the Report are printed.

Page 52: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

© CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved.

26. A grouped Report does not remember the last visited workbook/tab when user returns to

view this Report.

This issue is now fixed. When viewing a Report with multiple workbooks/tabs, when returning

to view the same Report, it will display the last visited workbook/tab (rather than the first

one).

27. Changing a font size in Reports may cause a crash.

This issue is now resolved. When non-TrueType fonts are used in a Report, attempting to

change the Font size was causing a crash.

28. Reported Wattage values incorrect for non-Electronic Accessories in Reports.

Though these accessories are non-Electronic and therefore do not require any power, the

Fixture’s wattage value was being displayed incorrectly. This issue has now been corrected.

29. In the View Options of Reports, Filter Settings should be remembered while working in

the same dialog session and switching between Detail Levels.

When working in Reports’ View Options, the Filter setting for one Detail level will be lost

when switching to a different Detail Level and then back. This is now fixed so the Filters will

be remembered during the same session (i.e. before pressing OK) while working in the dialog.

30. Replacing a Fixture to one which has an Alias name does not work in Spreadsheets.

Replacing a Fixture in Spreadsheets, from the type column through the dropdown, to another

Fixture that was given an Alias name, does not replace the fixture. This issue is now fixed.

31. Animated Smoke does not update/animate when the Shaded View is in full screen mode.

This issue is now fixed. The smoke is animated in full screen mode again.

32. Pipe Tape Printer Prints "!a" at the start of every line.

This bug has been fixed. The “!a” no longer appears on every line, and any Unicode

characters will appear if the printer font supports them, in addition to some other updates to

Pipe Tape Printer functionality to support some newer printer models.

33. Some remnants of New Plots objects remain after all New Plots are deleted, and as a

result, the Layers with which these objects are associated produce the “Empty Layer

cannot be deleted issue” message, which is often experienced by users.

To resolve the “Empty Layer cannot be deleted” issue, when a Layer cannot be deleted,

wysiwyg will scan the file for any possible New Plot objects that were not completely

deleted as some references to them may still be present in the file. As a result, a message to

“Retry” will be displayed which will attempt a delete them again, after which these Layers

may become deletable. Note: In some cases, the “Retry” attempt to remove these layers

may fail.

34. New Plots always initialized to Imperial units regardless of your Application’s Regional

profile.

Regardless of your Application’s Regional profile, a new New Plot would always be created in

Imperial units. This has been fixed and New Plots will be created with correct unit type.

35. Some older Fixtures which support a special DMX Macro feature may result in a crash

when connecting to a console.

There are some fixtures that supported an old feature called Macros, which allow for one

control channel to override some other channels and use pre-recorded DMX channel values

instead of the input coming from the console. These three fixtures are: Eyecolor, ColorSpot

1200E AT, and the Pixel Line line of fixtures. When connected to a console in LIVE mode, as

the macro control channels are adjusted, wysiwyg may crash. This crash is no longer

experienced.

36. When starting wysiwyg, its window size will not be remembered from its previous

session.

Since Release 35, when starting wysiwyg, its window size is not remembered and sometimes

flips to maximum size and back down to windowed shortly after. This bug is now fixed.

Known Issues

1. Users running wysiwyg on computers with integrated video cards have reported quality and performance related issues in the wysiwyg Shaded View This problem is related to very limited hardware support for features required by wysiwyg’s

Shaded View. Please ensure that you have the latest graphics drivers for your computer. If issues

are still experienced in Shaded View, please turn off any unnecessary visualization features, as

per the advice offered in the following article: http://www.cast-

soft.com/wysiwyg/tip/view/improving-performance-in-r32s-shaded-view.

Please note that although wysiwyg will run on a computer with an integrated graphics card, this

is not recommended for larger files, and especially not for pre-visualization or pre-cueing--please

use a computer with a dedicated/discreet video card instead. For more information about

updating your video card drivers, we recommend that you refer to the following thread on our

Forum: http://forum.cast-soft.com/showthread.php?664-General-Information-on-Fixing-

Shaded-View-Problems-Crashes.

For more information about wysiwyg's hardware requirements, please visit: http://www.cast-

soft.com/content/wysiwyg-system-requirements

2. The glow feature for LED Wall and Screens will always display a white glow when running on systems using integrated graphics.

Integrated graphics cards do not support Enhanced Visualization or Deferred Shading. As a result,

although the glow is visible, the color of the glow remains white.

3. While changing the video resolution of a CITP source while playing, it can take up to 10 seconds before the video is displayed without artifacts at the new resolution.

During this time, some artifacts are visible in the video displayed. It is advised that you set the

video resolution at the beginning of your design work, and not change during your presentations.

4. You cannot perform a second Merge operation on a merged item that has been mirrored

After mirroring an object that was originally created through a merge operation, you cannot

reliably perform another merge procedure on this object.

Workaround: It is recommended that you perform all Merge operations on these objects before

you mirror them.

5. Single-sided surfaces that have Light Emission enabled "glow" on both sides when rendered

When you assign light emission to a single-sided surface, and then render it with Radiosity turned

on, the surface appears to glow on both sides.

Workaround: When using a light-emitting surface, create a second surface (with no light

emission) of the same size and place it just behind the light-emitting surface, 1 or 2 millimeters

away. This will mask the second light-emitting side in your rendering.

Page 55: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

© CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved.

6. For fixtures with multiple circuit types you cannot manually select which type to display in DATA mode

Regardless of the number of circuit types associated with a particular fixture and the Regional

Settings that you choose for your file, there is no way to select which circuit type to show in

DATA mode; instead, the program will always show the first circuit type listed.

7. After saving your wysiwyg file directly to a Network Attached Storage (NAS) device or any other remote drive/location, including (potentially) USB drives, you may have trouble opening the file Workaround: Work on files that are kept on your local hard drive. Before you begin working on

the wysiwyg file, copy it to your local drive and open it from there; once you are finished

working on it, save the file (on your local hard drive) and then move it back to your NAS device.

8. When you uninstall and reinstall the wysiwyg Server, the network version of wysiwyg (Network or Learn) does not function properly

When you install wysiwyg Release 35 the program installs updated Sentinel Drivers that make it

unnecessary to subsequently install the wysiwyg Server (for the network versions of wysiwyg).

However, if you install wysiwyg Release 35 and the wysiwyg Server, and then subsequently

uninstall and reinstall the wysiwyg Server, the program will not function properly.

In this case, perform the following workaround:

1) Click Start > Control Panel > Add or Remove Programs. 2) From the list of programs, click Remove beside the following programs, and then follow

the steps to remove them from your computer:

all listed versions of the Sentinel Drivers

the wysiwyg Server 3) Restart your computer. 4) When these programs are removed, reinstall the Sentinel Drivers by double-clicking the

file Sentinel.exe located in the following folder: C:\Program Files (x86)\WYSIWYG Release 35\Bin\Sentinel

Note: C: is the drive on which you installed wysiwyg.

9. Transparent surfaces that touch non-transparent objects are not transparent in the rendered image

To ensure that transparent surfaces touching non-transparent objects are completely invisible in

renderings requires a slight workaround. When placing the transparent surface or object in your

drawing, ensure that a minuscule space exists between it and any non-transparent objects in

your drawing (this space can be as small as you like). For example, if you are placing a

transparent surface on a floor, nudge the surface just above the floor. When you render the

image, the surface will be invisible.

10. wysiwyg does not detect the appropriate size of color frame for fixtures that have interchangeable lenses

wysiwyg is not yet able to distinguish the lens from the body of certain fixtures that have

interchangeable lenses, such as the ETC Source 4, the Strand SL, and so on. In some cases,

therefore, it allows you to use the incorrect size of color frame for the current lens. For

example, a Source 4 fixture with a 26 lens uses a 6.25-inch color frame, but wysiwyg also allows

Page 56: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

you to use both a 12-inch and a 14-inch frame (the frames used by 10 and 5 lenses

respectively).

To avoid this issue, ensure that you know the appropriate color frame for each lens that you are

using. Select a color frame from the accessories tab of the library browser and insert it into the

fixture(s). Then open the properties of the color frame and select a color to apply to the

accessory.

11. Deleted Presentation items are still available in Layouts

Removing a new plot, image, report, worksheet, key, legend, or spreadsheet from its respective

shortcut bar using Undo does not remove it from the list of items available for insertion in

Layouts. Such items are named “new view” in their respective list and can be added to the

layout but may cause wysiwyg to crash.

12. Positional link not broken for grouped objects in a New Plots view

Performing a Move or Rotate command on a set of grouped objects in a New Plots view does not

properly break the positional link. If you try to restore the positional link for these objects, they

will return to the position they were in immediately before the positional link was broken, not to

their current position in CAD mode. They will move to the correct position if the objects in CAD

mode are ungrouped and regrouped.

13. Positional link not broken for grouped hang structures in a New Plots view

Performing a Move, Rotate, or Rotate Position command on a set of grouped hang structures

(such as truss) in a New Plots view does not properly break the positional link. If you Move or

Rotate the hang structures in CAD mode, the hang structures in the New Plots view will change

their position as well. They will not be moved if you ungroup the hang structures before moving

or rotating them, and then regroup them when the operation is finished.

14. 'Windows' created with the Boolean > Subtract tool disappear when the file is re-opened.

If 'windows' are cut out from a 'wall' surface when both the wall surface and the surfaces that will

be used for the cutouts were created by extruding lines, after saving and closing the file, re-

opening it causes the windows to be filled in again in Shaded View. In Wireframe views, the

cutouts are still there.

15. Bring to Front and Send to Back commands in CAD Wireframe and in Layouts cannot be

undone.

The Undo command will undo the action previous to any Bring to Front/Send to Back commands.

Reversing the operation must be done manually and it may take several steps to return objects to

their original draw order.

16. Performing 15-20 Boolean operations in a File may lead to a crash on the next Boolean

operation.

There is a limit due to geometric complexity, but it varies depending on the file and objects and

is unpredictable. If performing repeated Boolean operations on the same objects, it is

recommended that you save and back up your work often – perhaps even after every successfully

complete operation.

17. When undoing and redoing move commands involving objects attached to an axis or frame or

a grouped axis or frame, the objects may end up positioned incorrectly.

18. In Layouts and New Plots, the measurement unit type shown in the Status Bar does not

always match the unit type used in the Layout or New Plot.

19. Changing wysiwyg's (Wyg.exe's) task priority from Task Manager does not always result in

that priority being retained.

20. Undo/Redo is not supported for Camera Path nodes set to User Defined.

21. Fixtures that have multiple beam properties (e.g. Showgun) cannot display the color wheel

preview information on the Color Designer Tool.

22. Custom Library Items that are no longer part of the application library and deleted from the wysiwyg file cannot be deleted from a file's private library

A wysiwyg file which contains some custom library items that are not listed in the Application's

Library Browser (accessed from the Welcome Screen), and that are deleted from the file cannot

be deleted from the file's library, because the Delete option is disabled when you right-click on

the custom library object inside the file's Library Browser.

Workaround: Performing a Purge Operation on the file will detect the unused custom library

items in the file and can delete them if the user wishes.

23. The previous "Un-Hung Fixture" Spreadsheet does not work with the new Spreadsheet

because the filtering system is different in the new Spreadsheet.

Workaround: In the Spreadsheet's filter bar, the Un-Hung Spreadsheet has its Status filter

dropdown set to "All", and the user can change it to "UNHUNG".

24. The Symbol Alignment option in Show Options inverts Fixture Lens Number in the Fixture's

symbol when displayed in Wireframe views.

25. Linear Scale objects do not export in 3D DWG/DXF exported files.

Although Linear Scale objects will export to a 2D DWG/DXF exported file, they currently do not

export to a 3D DWG/DXF exported file.

26. wysiwyg cannot print to a PDF file if the file's name or path contains Unicode characters that

do not exist in the current system language code page. For example, if your system is using

English (United States), you cannot specify a path with Chinese characters.

Workaround: One workaround is to name the file using only characters in your system language

from wysiwyg, and then rename the file afterwards from Windows. Alternatively, if you set the

Windows OS language settings to a language which uses the same characters used in the file

name or path, then the image can be exported successfully.

27. wysiwyg cannot export the Shaded View to a JPEG image if the file's name or path contains

Unicode characters that do not exist in the current system language code page.

Workaround: One workaround is to save the JPEG in a different image format, (e.g. BMP, PNG,

etc.), and it will save successfully. Alternatively, save the JPEG image file with a name and path

only containing viable Unicode characters from wysiwyg, and then rename the file afterwards

from Windows.

28. When running wysiwyg in the VMware Fusion virtual machine environment, textures are not

applied or displayed correctly on surfaces.

29. When running wysiwyg in the Parallels or VMware Fusion virtual machine environment, "Save

to Image view" and "Export to image" options on right click menu may crash wysiwyg.

Workaround: You can use the PrintScreen feature to capture a screenshot and then paste the

image into an Image Editing application.

30. When running wysiwyg in the Parallels or VMware Fusion virtual machine environment,

enabling the "Soft Shadow" option in the Shaded Views may crash wysiwyg.

31. When exporting the Shaded View using "Export to Image", video card settings are not ignored

in the exported image.

Workaround: This does not happen if the Shaded View is saved to the Images tab first, and then

exported from the Images tab. Another option is to use the PrintScreen feature to capture a

screenshot and then paste the image into an Image Editing application.

32. wysiwyg has been reported to not work on some dual-XEON systems with a high number of

cores.

It has been reported by a few customers that wysiwyg will not run on computer systems which

have dual-XEON processors and a high number of cores, e.g., 16 logical cores on each processor

(i.e,. eight hyperthreaded cores), for a total of 32 cores. If hyperthreading is turned off in the

computer's BIOS, then the issue goes away and wysiwyg will run on this system configuration.

33. For imported hatch patterns with dots, printing may not provide the expected results.

When printing a hatched object that uses a hatch pattern with dots, the dots may appear very

small and faint or may not appear at all. wysiwyg has several hatch patterns with simulated dots

that use short line segments instead. This is only a problem if a pattern file is imported.

34. Pipe borders do not display in New Plots immediately; they appear after restarting wysiwyg.

If a Pipe with borders is drawn in CAD Wireframe view, the borders will not appear in New Plots,

until the file is saved and wysiwyg is closed and restarted.

35. Cell Padding is handled differently in Text label objects in Release 36. Therefore, wysiwyg

files saved in R35 and earlier version containing Text Labels which have cell padding will

have a different height in Release 36.

Page 59: wysiwyg Release 37 Update 1 - Amazon S3 · 2016-07-14 · Page 7 of 61 © CAST Group of Companies Inc., 2016. All rights reserved. New features in wysiwyg R37 In addition to numerous

Unlike before where cell padding would reduce the text height, now the cell padding value is

additional space added around the text. Therefore it will increase the overall height of the text

label object, which will make the height of a Text Label saved in files from previous releases

different.

36. Some PDF Files (particularly Multi-Layer PDF files) may fail to import as floorplans.

A few workarounds to this problem are available:

- 1. Ask for another version of the PDF file (or re-create it), without Layers.

- 2. Use Adobe Acrobat Pro to flatten/merge the layers. (As stated on the Adobe Help page above, this requires the Pro version of Acrobat, which is not free.)

- 3. If GhostScript is installed on the system, wysiwyg can attempt to use it. Installing the latest version of 32-bit GhostScript may help resolve this issue.

37. Object order is not respected in New Plots as it is in CAD Wireframe Views.

The Send to Back / Bring to Front functions to offer the user a way to define object draw order,

are not respected in New Plots. As a result, the plot will be displayed differently between the

CAD Wireframe representation and New Plots representation.

38. Occasionally when opening a dialog in Release 36, the window’s border is displayed but the

contents of the window are not shown.

This issue has been introduced with the new theme project of Release 36. It happens randomly.

If you experience this problem, you can use the ESC key to close the dialog or click in the top

right corner of the dialog where the X button would be. Usually if you try to reopen the same

dialog again, all the contents will be displayed the next time it is opened.

39. When switching between tabs or between Visual Themes, wysiwyg mouse clicks may affect

the window behind wysiwyg.

During these slower operations, wysiwyg may become temporarily inactive. Avoid clicking the

mouse until the switch is complete and wysiwyg will stay in the foreground.

40. Due to differences in how applications work with text, some issues exist with exporting text

labels to DWG.

Exporting text labels with multi-line text will result in a text object with one line of text in the

DWG/DXF file. Text label borders and background fill are not exported. The Align to View

property is ignored. Text will appear slightly larger and may be in a slightly different position

from how it appears in wysiwyg, but it is much more accurate than in previous releases.

41. Depending on DPI settings, Layouts may not display or print certain objects at the specified

scale.

Worksheet, Report, Key and Legend objects may be smaller in the Layout due to system DPI

settings above 100%.

42. Sometimes when you render a file which has objects imported from SketchUp, the textures

do not appear in the rendering.

This is a random bug which happens from time to time. It is possible to determine if the textures

will be rendered from the small preview before you start the render job. If you do not see any

textures appearing in the small preview, close the Render Wizard window, and reposition your

camera and start the Render Wizard again. In most cases, the next time the textures will appear

in the rendering (just verify first in the last step of the Render Wizard before starting the render

job).

43. Shaded Views are experiencing a performance drop to ~1 FPS on Windows 10 systems which

have an Nvidia graphics card whose driver is greater than Version 353.62 when going into or

out of Full Screen mode.

Some customers are experiencing severe performance drops on their systems, usually down to

approximately 1-2 FPS. The commonality between all of these reports is: it’s on a Windows 10

computer, which has an Nvidia graphics card, and the graphics driver is later than Version

353.62. The issue seems to be triggered when the Shaded View is about to open into Full Screen

mode, or when it is closing Full Screen mode. CAST is currently investigating this issue, and we

can report that:

This issue is NOT experienced on older graphics drivers that are Version 353.62 and

earlier.

This issue is NOT experienced on systems running an AMD graphics card

44. wysiwyg DPI drops after connecting to the Hog4 driver if the computer’s DPI setting is above

100%.

When wysiwyg is running on a computer which has DPI settings which are greater than 100%,

connecting to the Hog driver will immediately drop the DPI settings to 100%. This issue is not

experienced on the same systems with other console drivers.

45. In a Report with no data to display, wysiwyg crashes after selecting the Data smart cell.

When in Reports (PRES mode), a Data smart cell (dropdown cell) will show “No Data” when the

Report is empty. Selecting it will open the smart cell list, but a subsequent click to close the list

or to select a different cell in the Report often causes wysiwyg to crash.
