Welcome to the fourteenth issue of the Acton Neighbourhood Police Update. In this issue we’ll be talking about a dramatic arrest of a man linked to a series of robberies in W4, and how one man’s quest

to “find a quicker way home” led to a ticket for driving the wrong way around a roundabout. We’ll also be talking about an initiative being conducted which aims to involve local students in a Youth Panel.

The suspect attempted to escape from police on a bike but was detained by Q cars (plain clothes) officers. Aga was vital in the restraint and arrest of the man, who was linked to a series of recent robberies in the area. On the same day a local man was charged with speeding in Scotland! Police Scotland had contacted the Team and asked us to charge him, which they duly did! It all goes to show that wherever you commit the offence in the UK, and however minor the offence may seem, there is no escape from the long arm of the law… On the 4th the Team continued to patrol Acton Green as there had been reports pertaining to Drugs Possession and Sales. They stopped and searched a couple of youths, after being given sufficient grounds, but found nothing.

On the same day they found a man parked in an alleyway off a side road in W4 happily partaking of a Cannabis joint. He was issued with a PND ( Penalty Notice for Disorder) for possession of Cannabis. Throughout this period officers have continued to patrol the area as part of Operation Autumn Nights, which was discussed in the last issue of this news sheet. They patrolled with other Cluster officers in a van so they could quickly respond to the seasonal spike in anti-social behaviour. There had been recent concerns from residents about people disobeying road signs and whilst officers were there, they noticed a commercial van doing this exact thing! The van was seen to sway onto the offside part of the road and go around the mini roundabout the wrong way. On stopping the driver, he immediately admitted to the wrongdoing and stated “It was quicker for me to get home”. He was informed of the risks attached to this sort of driving and the dangers it can cause to oncoming traffic. As a result of the actions, the man was reported for a Road Traffic Offence. This is a reminder to all motorists to comply with road signs. Failing to do so can cause risks not only to you but also to others. Ward officers will continue to monitor

this and also use the speed gun to monitor relevant concerns expressed by residents. Also on Thursday 2nd November 2017 Ward Officers were on patrol around their Ashbourne Parade base in W5 when they spotted a man drinking from a beer can. On being asked to hand the can over, the man refused and as a result of his actions he was given a fine. Also, as mentioned previously, the ward runs a Community Protection Notice Scheme and the male also got a verbal warning and is now on the wards database. If he is caught again then he will be given a written warning. On Friday 3rd November 2017 ward officers issued a well known drug dealer with a Postal Charge Requisition in relation to when he breached his Community Behaviour Order. The known drug dealer, who has a CBO as a result of the wards previous dealings with him, was in clear breach as he entered the prohibited area on his moped whilst officers were dealing with a recent incident earlier in the week. We will keep you updated with progress on this as he is due in court later next month! Also on Friday 3rd November 2017 ward officers were on patrol until midnight as part of Operation Autumn Nights. The whole purpose was to deal with Anti Social Behaviour type calls. During the shift there was a call from concerned residents of a group of 5 men who were drinking alcohol on Garrick Close, W5.

Ward officers took the call and when on scene there were 4 bottles of alcohol open which these men were drinking from. They were also pretty loud as the officers heard them from the Brunswick Road junction with Hanger Lane. Whilst talking to them

they became louder, triggering yet another call to Police from a resident! All the men were given a verbal warning as part of the wards CPN process and one of them was given an on the spot fine for continuing to drink..

While walking back from Garrick Close, officers went towards the Hanger Lane Central Reservation where there have been previous concerns about street dri nking. A man stopped by ward officers a month ago was spotted street drinking from a beer can and it was clear he had not learnt his lesson. He was given a written warning and officers used language line to send a clear message! On Wednesday 1st November 2017 ward officers held a street briefing on the Ashbourne Road junction with Heathcroft, and on Thursday 2nd November 2017 they held their first Cuppa with a Copper session. This was at the Travelodge in NW10. Officers spoke with staff about concerns at the hotel and gave thorough crime prevention advice to those who attended. As the hotel was busy on this day officers spoke to people staying at the venue and offered them tips on how to stay safe and officers spoke to people parking their vehicles at the venue on how to secure their car to prevent them being victims of crime. After months of searching it appears the SNT have secured a few locations for Cuppa with a Coppa in time for Winter!! On Saturday 4th November 2017 ward officers attended the Brentham Club, W5 and Ealing Cricket Club, W5 for the annual Fireworks Display. It was great to see local residents come together and despite the cold weather both venues had over 3000 people attending. On Wednesday 8th November 2017 ward officers held their second Cuppa with a Copper at McDonalds, W5. This midday session provided a popular location and a great opportunity to speak with local residents and advise them on crime prevention methods. Officers also spoke to local business owners who attended and reassured them that they are working on the Community Protection Notice scheme (CPN) in the area. In the last week officers have given over ten verbal warnings in relation to CPN’s to men causing Anti

Social Behaviour on Quill Street, W5 and any frequent offenders have been dealt with accordingly. On Thursday 9th November 2017 Hanger Hill SNT attended their Street Briefing at Hanger Green, W5. Officers met with local business owners and reiterated that street drinking near the benches is being monitored and officers, in partnership with the off licences are combating this activity and reviewing licences when on patrol. To the surprise of officers, a male flagged down police asking if there was a street briefing and that he was looking for the location. He showed officers his phone which had a Twitter page he had loaded up. Officers stated they were present in the area for the event and the male stated he was a local news reporter from City News Network Ltd and he was reporting on how the Police are breaking down barriers in the Community. He was amazed at how ward officers were speaking with the local community on his arrival and asked to film this for their 9pm news bulletin. On Thursday 9th November 2017 Hanger Hill SNT attended their Street Briefing at Hanger Green, W5. Officers met with local business owners and reiterated that street drinking near the benches is being monitored and officers, in partnership with the off licences are combating this activity and reviewing licences when on patrol. On Wednesday 8th November 2017 ward officers conducted neighbour enquires following a recent residential burglary at Chatsworth Road, W5. A rear window was forced where a suspect attempted to get in but as the alarm sounded it appeared to scare away the individuals. As winter is fast approaching ward officers are reminding residents to lock up when leaving their houses. Register electrical items on immobilise.com and to call 999 or 101; if you suspect anything. Ward officers are on hand to carry out crime prevention surveys that will be specific to your house. On Thursday 9th November 2017 Hanger Hill Police were working alongside local businesses on their

concerns of males touting for work and causing anti social behaviour. During their patrols officers saw a group of male gathered around Quill Street, W5. Officers split up and managed to round up all the males, despite many of them trying to run off. Officers conducted checks on all the men and issued every one of them with a verbal warning via language line in order to send a strong message across. We will continue to monitor the area in the near future and deal with anyone caught again accordingly. On Friday 10th November 2017 ward officers conducted a weapons sweep around Quill Street, W5. These sweeps form part of Op Renounce and officers are checking areas on the ward where potential weapons or discarded knives could be hidden. Officers are pleased to report that no items were found in the area!! We will continue with daily weapon sweeps next week which form part of our patrols to ensure our ward a safe place for all. They also provided crime prevention advice and two follow up crime prevention surveys have been booked. On 6 November PC Rachel Sullivan from the South Acton Team attended at 6th Form Assembly at Acton High School. Officers went to speak to local students about a new Youth Panel. Students from Acton High School, Ellen Wilkinson School and Twyford School are being invited to form a panel to tell the police how crime effects them in their day to day lives in the local area. Three students from each school will meet and discuss issues they are experiencing and then put them to the police. The South Acton Safer Neighbourhoods Team will then

make a promise to work towards solving these issues. Again on the 6 November, PCSO Sarah Kearney and Inspector Clarke conducted a walk around of the South Acton Ward with our local MP Ms Rupa Haq. Ms Haq was introduced to the team at the South Acton regeneration office where the regeneration process of South Acton estate was discussed. Next, Ms Haq visited the Bollo Youth Club where she met the local youth workers and a number of local youths. Lastly Ms Haq conducted a walk through of Clandon Close and the red brick estate and discussed the current challenge of policing ASB around the area. Through the proactive efforts of South Acton SNT it was discovered that a registered sex offender has failed to notify change of address twice within a month. PC Zhang had checked the man’s address previously and he had not made them aware. However after further checks it was found that he had failed to notify again. The man was circulated and arrested by PS Clarke from East Acton and charged again. The courts have now remanded this man in prison awaiting his sentencing Through proactive checks conducted by South Acton SNT this un-cooperative sex offender is now locked up. In partnership with Park Guard a weapon sweep of Clandon Close and the South Acton Recreation Ground was conducted on November 5th. XEAST ACTON WARDXXXXXXXXXXXX E Mail: eastacton.snt@met.police.uk Telephone : 0208 721 2708 Twitter @MPSEastActon See the East Acton Team on Facebook During the week ending November 5th, officers from East Acton teamed up with other cluster teams in order to patrol the Acton area. Not only did the officers involved get to patrol the whole of the Acton area but also got to patrol the East Acton area in greater numbers. Areas where ASB has been happening were subject of a dispersal zone and several people who were likely to cause trouble were asked to leave the area. A Dispersal zone is applied for when there is a significant rise in ASB issues in the area and police feel they need the power in order to address it. It gives police the power to remove people from an area On one shift, officers assisted in looking for suspects of a burglary and spoke to local residents about local concerns. Over the week the officers found and searched several people, resulting in three warnings for possession of cannabis which will deter others from doing the same. The dispersal zone is set to continue and officers have spoken to the local managing agents on the Westcott Estate who will be looking to address the problems of youths gathering and taking drugs by redesigning the layout of the area. On 9th November a man wanted for various offences including assault was arrested after A/PS Clarke recognised the man in the High Street. After radioing for assistance Clarke and other officers approached the man who, upon seeing them, fled down the High Street. After a brief foot chase down the street and across the busy road, the man was detained just off the High Street without further incident. He was arrested and has since been charged for these offences and remanded. Officers from the team have continued to respond to the concerns of local residents along the Grand Union canal towpath. They have been patrolling the area and

speaking to the people who use the path in an effort to reassure and reduce complaints from people in the area. If you do use the canal path, please be mindful of other users. He was fined £100 and warned that any further breech may earn him a custodial sentence. Again on October 3rd and as part of the Autumn Nights crime initiative, officers from Acton Central conducted a weapons sweep on the Vale Estate. During the sweep PC Nweke recovered a quantity of cannabis, hidden in preparation for resale. On the same day a persistent anti social offender was arrested on the Mount outside Morrisons having breeched his CBO (Criminal Behaviour Order) He was arrested and taken to a police station, before being charged. He is due to attend court in a few weeks. We will update as and when we have the result.

On November 7th The Team carried out a request made by Sussex police for a search to be carried out at an address in Perivale, following the arrest of a local male for vehicle crime offences. Sergeant Matt Buckland took the team over in order to conduct the search. The search did not provide any additional evidence, however it was a chance to try and contribute to driving down vehicle crime offences on the ward and borough. In response to significant concerns from the local community and businesses within the Park Royal Leisure complex, the Team sought the necessary authorisation to remove travellers who had set up camp there. Although the encampment was not technically on the Acton Central Ward the team took the lead in organising their peaceful removal. A senior Ealing Officer, Chief Inspector Kandohla, authorised the operation and PS Buckland and PC Loveday attended with the newly formed ASB and issued the necessary paperwork.
