Daily Class Life

New 7 Day Cycle!!

In High School, Xavier has now implemented a new 7 day cycle instead of the original schedule system. Subjects are based on the current day of the cycle. New high school periods include: Examen, a 10 minute reflection every Day 1, and CAP, which is basically a free hour that can be allotted or extra periods, school activities, or supervised study.

A New Grading System!!

Prepare for a new grading system in Xavier High School. Instead of number grades, we use letter grades ranging from F to A+. We get grades from 6 10% assessments and a 40% QT. The new grading system aims to discover a student’s mastery of the topic, with A being outstanding mastery and A+ being going beyond what is necessary.

Xcalibur: Xavier Fair 2013

Every February, Xavier holds its annual school fair. This year, Xcalibur, followed the theme of medieval knights, wizards, dragons and much more. It was truly a time to enjoy this year. Huzzah!

Our booth was entitled Dunkin Dobby. It is a pachinko type game where you place a ball in a machine to earn points. Our booth earned the most chits in the entire batch, 48000!

Xavier Bilibid Interaction

This is the New Bilibid Prison, where we had our interaction with the inmates of the Medium Security compound.

We got to visit the lethal injection chamber, where 7 people were executed. After visiting the chamber, we realized the fact that even criminals deserve a second chance.

During the 3rd or 4th Quarter, you’ll get into experience the Xavier Behind Bars Recollection. On the first day, you get to visit a actual prison and interact with murderers, rapists and drug dealers. Don’t worry, these people have all learned the wrong in their actions, and you’ll find that these people deserve a second chance. My own partner, Mario, murdered someone. I learned that he finds solace in God and dreams only of seeing his family again. This will be an unforgettable experience so I suggest you enter the prison with an open mind.

This year was very memorable. So many things happened that I will never forget up until my death bed. Being a freshmen is a up and down roller coaster ride. The typical thing you will think when I say up and down is “ you are up when you get great grades, and sometimes you are down when you get bad grades”. Yes they are up and down moments, but when you are a freshmen you get more than just up and downs in grades. You will experience the excitement of being a freshmen in ways you might not know. This year some of the most memorable things that happen was with my classmates and friends. I experienced getting a green slip because of my wrong doings but it was memorable because I got it with my friends. As a freshmen you will get to learn more than just academics, you will learn to socialize, accomplish tasks, and having small victories when you beat another class in a competition. These are the small things worth remembering. -Lance Ting H1D

Closing Remarks

Many people are afraid of the High School years, given that most people think about the looming college years ahead and the far-fetched rumors about endless homework and bullies. However, this isn’t true, in fact, high school should be the best years of your life as you will experience the most activities that are all fun. Most think ahead to the harsh reality ahead but instead, they should only be thinking about learning as much as they can and making as many friends as possible. High School is all about gathering life-long friends and experiences because it’s all about having as much fun as possible before going into the serious adult world. If you are afraid of the world of High School, loosen up. Get comfortable, and I assure you that you’ll quickly make friends, join clubs and committees, and make new discoveries. As a freshman, your job is to get familiar and comfortable with the new chapter in your life. You will not have to worry about your previous record as you have a clean slate so get out there and strive to be the best that you can be! -Tristan Tiu H1D
