1 - In trod u ct ion t o th e sof tw are
1.1 G en eral Descrip tionThe XCHANG conversion module is a software programme which has been created to carry out theconversion of a file or list of files in a given format, into files in a new format. This module can be called up using the intermediary MASTERFILE as long as the XCHANG packageis installed and the MASTERFILE version permits.XCHANG also supplies reading/writing capacities of various file formats to other applications(Diamino, VigiPrint, etc.).The XCHANG conversion module brings together several different tasks, depending on theconversion to be carried out and the type of files to be converted (Basic Images, Garment, Marker,Models):
- For Basic Images (PATTERN):
XCHANG-PAT-DXF-IN is used for the conversion of geometric shape files in DXF AAMAformat, into a Lectra IBA format, which can be exploited by Lectramachines (Import),
XCHANG-PAT-DXF-OUT is used for the conversion of geometric shape files in Lectra IBAformat, into a DXF AAMA format (Export),
- For garments (VARIANT) :
XCHANG-VAR-ASCI-IN is used for the conversion of Garment files in an ASCII format, into aLectra format, which can be exploited by Lectra machines, (Import),
XCHANG-VAR-ASCI-OUT is used for the conversion of Garment files in a Lectra format, into a
ASCII format (Export),
- For markers (MARKER) :
XCHANG-MRK-ASCI-IN is used for the conversion of Marker files in an ASCII format, into aLectra format, which can be exploited by Lectra machines, (Import),
XCHANG-MRK-ASCI-OUT is used for the conversion of marker files in a Lectra format, into anASCII format (Export),
VAR-DXF-IN is used for the conversion of geometric shape files in DXF AAMA,into a Lectra VET+XCH format with the associated Lectra IBAformat.
VAR-DXF-OUT is used for the conversion of files to the VET format associated withthe geometric shape files of Lectra IBA format, to a DXF AAMA(Export) format.

1.2 Required hardware and software configurat ion
This software programme is destined to operate on a work station working under LS UX V 4.3, orLINUX V 2.9, or SOLARIS V 2.4, integrating the OpenPartner graphic desk.
Each XCHANG module conversion task will be independent and can only be activated if the licencerights corresponding to this task have been granted. The conversion of files from one format to another will be launched from MASTERFILE-ACTION.Reading or writing files in DXF AAMA format from an application depends on the application(refer to the corresponding documentation, Diamino, VigiPrint, etc.).
The installation of the conversion module, must be carried out following the procedure described inthe document Administrator Utilities - Code 521230, (Chapter 9 - Package installation), integratedinto the Operating systems and Utilities Desktop Customer's Manual.
1.3 Identification of the files and directories used
The parameterisation files associated to conversion operations PAT-DXF-IN, PAT-DXF-OUT,VAR-DXF-IN and VAR-DXF-OUT are generated in the DXFCONFIG directory under the name ofthe operation followed by the suffix .CNF.If no operation name figures in the chosen field, the parameter file will be saved by default, underthe name DXF.CNF for import and export.
The parameterisation files associated to MRK-ASCI-IN or MRK-ASCI-OUT conversion operationsare generated in the PLACONFIG directory followed by the suffix .CNF.If no operation name figures in the chosen field, the parameter files are saved by default, under thename ASCIMRK.CNF for import, and MRKASCI.CNF for export.
The files resulting from this conversion operation are saved in the directory defined in theMASTERFILE-ACTION window, in the Library input field of the destination area.
1.4 Lau nch in g th e software
The conversion software programme is launched from the MASTERFILE-ACTION window, if theXCHANG conversion module has been installed on a station equipped with the softwareMASTERFILE V2.3.
The installation, configuration and start-up procedures of the environment having been carried out,
- Double-click on the icon representing MASTERFILE in the applications area of the OpenPartnergraphic desk.
At the end of the software loading time, the MASTERFILE main menu appears (refer to thedocument 521284 for the complete description of this software).

1.5 Con version p rin cip leThe conversion principle depends on the type of files to be converted and the format. The different procedures are set out in 2.
There is however a common sequence based on the following operations, from the MASTERFILE-ACTION window :
- Select a list of files by clicking on the button List... , following the procedure
described in 3.2.2 of the MASTERFILE Customer's manual.- Click on the radio button corresponding to the conversion of files,- Click on the arrow adjacent to this button : A pull-down menu shows the list of different
conversion options,The option which is active is displayed on the radio button after selection.
In certain cases, format conversions (specified later), require the definition of specific parameters. This operation is carried out in a dialogue box specific to the type of conversion to be realised, and is
accessible by clicking on the button Parameters (see 2).
When all the parameters have been defined and validated, in this dialogue box,- Choose the destination of the converted files, indicating the access path,
- Launch the conversion operation by clicking on the button Run ,

1Information
In the same way as for the MASTERFILE-ACTION window, as the conversionmodule is an independent software, the LECTRA logo is a push button used toopen the Information dialogue box, in which information on the softwarename, the version number, and the copyright is displayed.
The button OK is used to return to the parameterisation screen.
2DXF un it
In the DXF files, there is no notion of unit on the geometric shapes. This inputfield is used to give a scale to the coordinates found in these files
Example : for a size X = 25 displayed, if the Unit field DXF is entered by theunit :0.1000 mm ==> X = 2.5 mm1.0 mm ==> X = 25.0 mm10.0 mm ==> X = 250.0 mm = 25 cm etc.

3Monitoring is made up of two input fields which can be modified by selectingfrom a list :
1st field :
NonePartialTotal
None : indicates that no monitoring will be carried out during theconversion. Option selected by default.
Par t i a l : Parameterisation to be entered by a technician specialised inDXF format.Display specific information on the DXF file, except forgeometry (list of layers, list of blocks...).
Total : Parameter to be entered by a technician specialised in DXFformat. Displays a series of technical informationrecognising the DXF AAMA format, on the DXF file including
a description of the geometry.
2nd field :
ScreenFile
This second field can only be edited for a partial or totalmonitoring.
Screen : The information will be displayed on the OpenPartner errorwindow, which will have been opened before MASTERFILEwas launched.
File : The information will be displayed in a file which will havethe name of the file which is to be converted, followed by thesuffix .DBG.
These files are saved in the DXFCONFIG directory.
It is important not to leave this parameter activepermanently so as not to saturate the disk too quickly. To be used selectively in the event of a conversion error.
4Grading is made up of two input fields which can be modified by selecting from alist :
1st field :
NoneNest
Rule
None : indicates that no gradation will figure in the file to beconverted. Only Basic shape generated. Option selected bydefault.
Nest : All information concerning the gradation will be in reading(Import) or in writing (Export), in the same DXF.AAMA file,in nest form (basic graded shape in all sizes).
Rule : indicates that two files are in reading (Import) or in writing(Export) :- The file .DXF contains only the basic size.- The file .RUL contains the associated gradation rules
2nd field : can be edited if the Rule field is active. Used to input
directory name. In this directory there is the file with thegradation rules for export, or a file is generated for import.

Basic shape + table of rules
For a conversion of a DXF format file into IBA or VET+IBA (Import), there are severalconversion possibilities for the gradations :- The conversion can generate only basic shape(s) 1 (None Option),
- Or the conversion generates grading nests 2, with the basic shape(s) in all sizes, on thesame nest, (Nest Option),
- Or the conversion generates basic shapes on the one hand, and tables of rules, on theother hand (Rule Option).
For a conversion of an IBA or VET+IBA format file to DXF (Export) :a rules file in the case of option 3 is associated to each basic shape file.
To remain faithful to the geometry level of the shape in all sizes, it is preferable to usesolution 2 (Nest Option) which is the best.
However, solution 3 (Rule Option) generating the basic shape + the tables of rules ismore compact when it comes to storing on the disk.

5Filter : The selection of the button, characterised by a tick on the
toggle button, engenders the application of an algorithmwhich filters too large a number of points defining ageometric shape,
Smooth : This field is only active if the filtering has been selected.Selecting this button, characterised by a tick on the togglebutton, engenders the application of an algorithm whichimproves the quality of the curves resulting in definitionpoints. The filtering is applied systematically after a smooth.
AAMA strict : Selecting this button, characterised by a tick on the togglebutton, ensures that the file to be converted is in AAMAformat, before carrying out the conversion. If this is not the case, an error is generated in the monitoringand the file is not converted (see error list in appendix). If the strict AAMA parameter has not been selected, theconversion is carried out with no check.

Naming
FileAAMABlock
This input field is used when there is a PAT-DXF-IN or VAR-DXF-IN conversion. It makes it possible togive a name to the DXF files which have been converted toIBA format. The list offers three possible options
F il e : The generated file takes on the same name as the imported
DXF file, with an index corresponding to the row of the baseshape contained in the DXF file.
AAMA : The generated file takes on the AAMA name contained inthe DXF file.
Block : The generated file takes on the name of the block containedin the DXF file.
7Naming Garment:
FileAAMA This input field is only used when there is a
VAR-DXF-IN conversion. It makes it possible to give a nameto the DXF files which have not been converted to VETformat. The list offers two possible options :
F il e : The file generated takes on the same name as the importedDXF file.
AAMA : The file generated takes on the name of the AAMA garmentcontained in the DXF file.

ENTITIES : A file of IBA format will be generated independentlyaccording to the number of blocks inserted in the ENTITIESsection
9 When the button Export is clicked on, access to the specific import
field is prohibited.
10 Shap es access path s
This field is only used for a VAR-DXF-OUT conversion. It is used to indicatethe library name containing the shapes of IBA format contained in the VETformat file.
11 Validation area
Restore
Restores the initial values which figured when thedialogue box was opened, before any modificationswere made.
Standard is used to find standard values defined by default.
OK Validates the parameters defined in this dialogue box.
These parameters are saved in a file, in theDXFCONFIG directory.
By default these files take on the names
DXF.CNF for Import and Export.
If the parameterisation has been launched as from anoperation, whose name is saved in the MASTERFILE-ACTION window, it takes the name of the operation.CNF.
This validation closes the param eterisation dialogue
box and returns to th e MASTERFILE-ACTION w ind ow.
It is then possible to launch the conversion of the list or file selected following 3.

Inp uttin g an access path
Several solutions are put forward for the inputting of access paths :1 Either double click on one of the areas to have access to the File selector dialogue box.
The latter appears automatically with the filter predefined on the different types of
files depending on the area which has been activated:.VET for garments files, .IBA for basic images, .ALF for Alphanumeric tables.
Refer to the reference document 521237 (Lectra Systmes graphic environment- User'sguide) for a detailed explanation of the File selector dialogue box.
Having selected in the File selector dialogue box, the access path appears in the inputarea.
2 Or input the access path directly on the Alphanumeric keyboard.
Copying an access path, from the garment inpu t area :
Clicking on the blue icon , once the access path has been input in the input area nextto it, copies the data input on the following lines.
Checking sizes
- The button requests a check of the presence of the Size/Conformation/Stature in
the BI gradation nests, or a garment check. If one of these is absent, or if there is aproblem in the composition of garment, an error will be detected and displayed in theMASTERFILE monitoring window.
- The button does not request a check, in which case there will be extrapolation of
the inexistent sizes, without warning.
- The button indicates that when a size check or garment check has been
requested with the icon , the operation is stopped (red light), as soon as the
programme has detected an error.
- The button indicates that when a size check or garment check has been
requested with the icon , the operation is continued all the same (green light),
even if an error has been detected. For checks or cases of error on the garment (readingand garment composition), the green light of the icon indicates that the garment willnot be found in the composition of the marker.
