Xena guided Argo down the narrow mountain path leading into Amazon territory. A shrill cry caught

her attention and she glanced up watching an eagle graceully circling o!erhead. "is huge wingswere #arely mo!ing as the #ird allowed the wind currents in the mountains to glide him through theair. $he warrior smiled as she watched. $here was something a#out eagles that always ascinatedher. $hey were the ultimate predators. %wit, strong, ierce, ne!er &illing or pleasure, #ut only tosur!i!e. Xena studied the approaching storm. '+ith luc&, we should #e a#le to reach the !illage #eore it getshere.' Argo snorted noisily. ' &now girl. don*t li&e #eing in a cold rain either.'

-ccasionally, Argo*s hoos slipped on the loose pe##les and agged roc&s, #ut she /uic&ly regainedher #alance. $his particular path was not tra!eled that oten #ecause o the danger o roc& slides&noc&ing the unwary o the trail and o!er the steep cli to certain death ar #elow. $here was mucheasier access to the Amazon land rom either the northeast or southeast, #ut Xena and )a#riellewere trying to ma&e up some lost time.

Xena coc&ed her head toward her shoulder. 'Are you o&ay6'

At the same time, 4phiny stal&ed around the corner o the ood hut.

'%olari5 $hose chic&ens are loose again5 +eren*t you supposed to see that the pen was ixed properlythis time6' $hey had escaped through the gate earlier that morning due to a #ent gate latch.

'+hoops,' #reathed %olari sotly. '$hose damn chic&ens.' %he too& o /uic&ly to escape 4phiny*swrath. 'Ahhh, *m on it5 *m on it5'

Argo nic&ered and tossed her mane. ' &now, girl,' Xena leaned close to the horse*s ear andwhispered so 4phiny couldn*t hear. 'Belie!e me, don*t want to get wet either.'

Xena mounted and leaned down to help )a#rielle up in her usual spot #ehind her. 4phiny #rought herhorse up #eside them and they rode out o the !illage toward the ca!erns.

$hey smelled the rain #eore they elt it. $here was a crisp clean rush o chilled air that #lew aroundthem. $hunder was rolling in earnest now as lighting #olts could #e seen in the distance. $hey pic&ed

up the pace slightly and hun&ered down or the deluge. :ain started pouring down on the riders. $heycould #arely hear each other as they tried to &eep a steady #ut #ris& pace. %ince there was no lieand death urgency, they &ept the pace sae or their mounts. %oa&ed clothes and #odies were #etterthan losing a horse.

By the time they reached the ca!es, they were chilled to the #one, shi!ering and sha&ing. $he smallroc&y entrance was only #ig enough or two unmounted horses to wal& side #y side, #ut once theywere in, it opened into a second ca!ern which was large enough to hold se!eral horses. Argo and theother mare had plenty o room out o the weather. )a#rielle set a#out lighting the torches while Xenaand 4phiny unsaddled their mounts and ru##ed them down to get the cold water o their coats. $here

$he Amazons &ept the hot springs supplied with #lan&ets, sot linen towels, resh torches, and lintroc& and wood to ma&e ires or coo&ing. $he hot springs were deeper into the ca!e, #ut e!en in theca!ern where the horses stayed, the warm air could #e elt.

$he three soa&ed women soon were wal&ing through the adoining tunnel and into the amiliar ca!ern.

A warm mist surrounded them wrapping them in it*s pleasant em#race and illing their lungs with thearoma o spices and the tang o minerals.

$hey stood loo&ing at the in!iting hot water only momentarily #eore all started tossing o wetleathers, #oots, gauntlets and all. Amazons were raised in an en!ironment o openness, so pu#licnudity was commonplace or them. )a#rielle would pro#a#ly ne!er get completely used to it, #ut hadcome a long way rom the shy arm girl that she used to #e and didn*t e!en gi!e a pause tonight.

Xena lowered hersel into the hot water slowly enoying the sensual eel o the water as it pulled herin. )a#rielle sighed deeply. '-h, this is hea!enly.'

'mmmmm,' was all that 4phiny replied as she closed her eyes letting the hot water sooth away thesha&es. For a se!eral minutes, all were /uiet listening to the #u##le and hiss while the warmthreached into e!ery cell o their #odies.

'$his was worth getting rained on,' murmured 4phiny sotly.

'Ahhh, you*re going to regret that,' threatened the #ard with twin&ling eyes. %oon they were splashingeach other in earnest as Xena got a ace ull #y accident. %he gra##ed 4phiny and pushed her underthe water with one hand while reaching or )a#rielle with the other. %oon the #ard was pushed underalso. Both came up gasping and spitting and then ell on Xena together. $he warrior princess wasdun&ed #y #oth and rose out o the water /uic&ly. "er expression had 4phiny and )a#rielle institches.

$hey inally settled #ac& down soa&ing up the relaxing warmth. Xena gra##ed one o the wine s&insand too& a long pull #eore passing it to 4phiny. %he too& a deep drin& also and handed it to)a#rielle. For a while, they enoyed the wine and caught up on their li!es since the last time they hadgotten together.
