Printer System Power Saver Mode The copier/printer system is installed with a power saver feature that will automatically shut off the machine power if no print data is received for a specified period. When the printers are in power saver mode, power to the control panel and fuser unit is reduced to save energy. The display will turn off but the Power Saver button on the control panel will be lit indicating the machine is in Power Saver mode. The Power Saver feature includes two modes: • Low Power mode: Power consumption is reduced to approximately 120 watts. It will take

about 45 seconds to warm up the printers when exiting Low Power mode. • Sleep mode: Power consumption is reduced approximately 13 watts. It will take about 5

minutes to warm up the printers when exiting Sleep mode. The intervals for Low Power mode and Sleep mode can be set and specified in 1 minute increments, from 1 to 240 minutes.

Billing meters and accounting The product provides accurate billing of all prints through the electronic billing meter within the printer system. There is no mechanical meter on the printer system. Meters can be accessed and read from the user interface on the printer. Depending on the application, some blank pages used for duplex printing will be counted for metering purposes. Paper run through the post process inserter will not increment the billing meter.

Foreign Interface Device In addition to the accounting feature, a Foreign Interface Device (FID) is an option that enables a third party device to perform external electronic accounting functions. When the FID is installed by a CSE and enabled on the 4595, device will not function until an account number is entered. Installation of the FID takes approximately 15 minutes. NOTE: Print jobs from external controllers, like the Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP Print Server, are not tracked via accounting applications connected to the Foreign Interface Device.

Removable Hard Drive (optional) For extra security, the product can be installed with optional removable hard drive(s): one for the FreeFlow DocuSP Print Server, and one for the print spooler and copier server.

System Performance and Productivity

Standard print area The standard area that can be printed leaves a margin of 4.1 mm on all four edges of the paper (for SRA3, 320 mm wide). The actual printing area may vary depending on the printer (plotter) control language.

Registration • Lead Registration is +/-1.5mm from the HCF or trays 1-4 on each side • Side Registration is +/-2.0mm from the HCF or trays 1-4 on each side

Print volume range Customers who consistently run volumes above the stated Average Monthly Print Volume (AMPV) should expect a significant change in machine reliability or performance. Customers should consider higher volume machines or multiple machines if average monthly volume approaches the maximum duty cycle on a consistent basis. The number of prints between service calls is dependant upon the following factors: • Monthly output volume • Throughput materials (paper) • Environment (heat, humidity and ventilation) • High toner density and area coverage • Image quality requirements • Operator training

Influences on print speed The output speed of a print job is affected by: • Use of finishers and finishing features (e.g., stapling, hole punch, folding, and Booklet Maker

will slow down print speed) • Job length • Using the Bypass Tray or High Capacity Feeder • Single-sided versus two-sided job • The time it takes to RIP a job based on the type of PDL • Other factors outside the control of the product NOTE: As with any printer, performance of duplex printing will not match the print speed for single-sided printing.

Automatic Tray Switching (Load-While-Run) The paper trays support Load-While-Run operation. If a tray in operation runs out of stock, and another tray with the same programmed stock is available and loaded, the system will automatically switch to the new tray when the first runs out. The operator may then open the empty tray and reload it without the system stopping.

Scanning and Copying There are two methods of loading documents when copying with the Xerox 4595: via the document glass or the document feeder.

Document Glass (Platen) On the document glass, you can place a single sheet, a book or other similar document up to A3 size paper. When manually scanning on the document glass, only standard size documents can be detected automatically. For non-standard size documents, enter a custom size in the Original Size menu on the user interface.

Duplexing Automatic Document Feeder The 4595 has scan one bar; therefore the document feeder flips the media to scan both sides during a scan operation. The document feeders on the 4595 support single sheet and multiple sheet documents with sizes ranging from 5"x8"/A5 to a maximum of 11"x17"/A3 size documents. The document feeders can auto-detect only documents of standard sizes. For documents that are not a standard size, input the size in the “Original Size” menu on the User Interface. Network Connections for Scanning The Copy Server on the product can perform scan-to-network operations only if the system provides its own connection to the network. This connection would be in addition to the network connection for the optional Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP Print Server. If two network connections are not available, there are other options, but with trade-offs.

Option 1 – Two Network Connections • Customer has two network drops. • Each device is assigned its own IP

number. Capabilities of this configuration • Printing via FreeFlow drivers • Scan-to-Network from the copier user

interface • Copying, including Copy & Save (for

reprints) • Mailbox access from the network

Option 2 – One Network Connection • Customer has ONE network drop. • Only the Xerox FreeFlow DocuSP Print

Server is accessible from the network. Capabilities of this configuration • Printing via FreeFlow drivers • Scan-to-Network from the copier user

interface • Copying, including Copy & Save (for

reprints) • Mailbox access from the network

Option 3 – One Network Connection plus a Network Hub Customer has one network drop. Customer adds a hub. Each device is assigned its own IP number. Capabilities of this configuration • This Option is identical to Option 1, with the

exceptions… • Common network hub (less than US$50)

provided by customer • One more network cable, provided by

customer • One more device to plug-in (electric)

If there is a paper jam, the operator will need to manually reset the stock order in the paper tray back to Tab 1.

Qualified media for trays For optimum media selections, refer to the Recommended Materials List available from your Xerox representative. Additional information is contained in the Materials Usage Guide included with the documentation you will receive. Best performance is only achieved using Grade A paper. The use of non Grade A paper may result in more frequent service calls and a higher jam rate due to contamination.

When using carbonless stock, reliability may decrease and special service cleaning procedures will need to be performed by a Xerox technical representative. Although the 4595 is approved to run Xerox-brand collated carbonless stock applications, it is not recommended to do so exclusively. For best results, run Xerox-brand collated carbonless stock, fed from the optional OHCF. Other Specialty Paper Paper size 8 in x 10.5 in (US Gov) will only feed from Trays 3 and 4, and the optional OHCF. The product cannot feed media with “windows” (e.g. 6” x 1” die cut holes in the center of the page).

Third Party and Xerox Application Enablers Xerox provides support for tested and approved third party application enablers.

Third Party Software For information on these and other partner solutions, refer to this Web site: partner.xerox.com/xeroxbusinesspartners• Datastream Software from RSA (Rochester Software Associates), including MISPrint and

EPSPro, is available for co-resident installation on the FreeFlow DocuSP Print Server when connected via Ethernet (TCP/IP). (Not available for Channel connected devices.)

• Pad Printing – copying or printing uncollated sets while also using finishing features, can be accomplished on the Xerox 4595 by using the RSA solution “PadPrint” loaded on a customer’s network connected PC.

• Tab Wizards, Bates Numbering, and Pad Printing can be accomplished on the Xerox 4595 by using the Xpert Image solution “Echo” loaded on a customer’s network connected PC.

Xerox Enabler Software • A print path from Xerox FreeFlow® MakeReady® is supported via the XXP4595 name. • Printing on ordered stock is supported from Xerox FreeFlow® however, for paper jams the

operator must reset the stock order manually. Automatic ordered stock recovery is not supported.

System configuration and installation Electrical and space requirements must be satisfied before delivery of the equipment (the customer is responsible for connecting equipment on their network and configuring the controller to the network). A Xerox authorized carrier will deliver the printer system and the Customer Service Engineer (CSE) will install the system. Allow 4 to 6 hours to complete the system installation.

Installation considerations for the printer system • The system without the High Capacity Feeder is approximately 67.1 in (1704 mm) wide and

30.8 in (782 mm) deep. • Some carpeted flooring or uneven surfaces may require the installation of a mobility plate to

allow the product to be moved during normal maintenance activities. • Moveable installations can be moved to within 10 in (254 mm) of the rear wall after

installation. During installation, keep approximately 24 in (610 mm) from the wall for rear access.

• In a stationary installation, the rear of the system must be at least 24 in (610 mm) away from the wall.

• There should be a minimum of 78 in (1981 mm) clearance from the floor to the nearest overhead obstruction.

• The electrical outlet must be located within 6 ft (1828 mm) to the right of the right rear corner of the main processor or no more than 3 ft (914 mm) to the left of the left rear corner of the main processor (when facing the equipment).

Installation considerations for the FreeFlow DocuSP Print Server • Installation of optional furniture is performed by the Xerox Authorized Carrier. • To enable system administrators and others to work at the Controller, the work surface

should be desk height. • To enable the CSE to safely repair the system, the work surface should be at least 36 in x 36

in (914 mm x 914 mm). • The work surface of the controller must not infringe on the space required by the printer

system and any attached accessories unless it is a table with wheels and can be easily moved.

• One network drop is required for installation. • A secure but accessible place near the Controller must be established to store the media and

software. Xerox personnel may not be able to provide services unless these materials are available.

Supplies and component yields The consumable supplies listed below are engineered specifically for use in the Xerox 4595 and provide the highest and most consistent image quality, maximum productivity and up time. These consumable supplies are designed with several replaceable units, which are replaced as needed by Xerox Customer Service Engineers for ERUs and by customers for CRUs. NOTE: All yield estimates are based on the 6% area coverage at standardized conditions using 8.5 in x 11in /A4 Xerox 20 lb bond (80 gsm) stock. Actual yields vary greatly depending on area coverage, paper stock, and image quality control settings. Toner Cartridge yield per bottle will vary depending on area coverage density setting, paper size, and environmental factors such as temperature and humidity.

Customer Replaceable Units (CRUs)/supplies The Xerox 4595 user interface will display a message indicating when it is time to replace a CRU.
