The Outre Gallery has a philosophy unlike typical galleries which strongly advocates arts of the contemporary and pop culture. The gallery has an exhibit range which crosses over various themes such as pop culture, hipster, underground art, etc. The idea of art which crosses over, the mix and match creating new outlooks makes Outre a unique gallery. The gallery design adopts the idea of a cross over to create an architecture which flows humans smoothly through a linear progression of spaces. This is achieved through the use of directional angles, guiding signages and the idea of intrigue and reward. Entering from Sydney road, the angle sloping prompts the start of the journey. As one moves through the spaces, clear boundaries begins to blur away as bookshop houses art on shelves; gallery displays books as artworks and the cafe becoming both a dining and viewing space. The linear progression hence allows people to experience the entire gallery as coherent whole maximising retail chances and the visitors’ experiences. The idea of crossing over is further developed to aesthetically engage the gallery with its site. Located next to traditional buildings on Sydney Road and a new archive on Albert Street, the gallery’s acts as a buffer zone between the traditional and the modern. By using recycled bricks from the existing buildings, the facade of the gallery hints at the presence of the past buildings and also connects the building visually to the archives building of the same material. The cross over is also expressed in the channelling of crowds from Sydney Road into the archives site and vice versa through the linear journey in the gallery.

HERITAGE PARK
A recent initiative by the Melbourne city council to redevelop the Queen Victoria Market, update its facilities and improve the site for the users asked the public: “What can we do to improve the public spaces, namely the car park and Queen Street?”

significant locations such as the market, flagstaff gardens, and on-site historical buildings. The proposed design focuses mainly on physically expressing history, to foster understanding and a sense of belonging among the community. This is articulated in the design through the different height levels throughout the historical timeline, clearly demonstrating the different cultural layers that overlays the site.
The Queen Victoria Market, located north of the Melbourne CBD, is a well-known market among Melburnians as well as visitors. Despite its popularity, many people are unaware of the site’s rich history – especially younger generations. This lack of understanding is a barrier that prevents people from truly engaging with the site. On-site investigation showed that during the day-market activities, people under the age of 45 years were significantly underrepresented. As seen on the City North plan, the site sits right at the edge of the dense CBD. The site development is taken as an opportunity to create a recreational green space for the community. This is in-line with the City of Melbourne’s goal to increase the canopy area and soft-scapes of the city. The space is also designed to encourage and reinforce connections to other

The native garden, together with the platform and the steps create a public stage for buskers, community events and festivals.
It is also proposed, that buildings on the southern edge be refurbished to accommodate educational facilities. It will foster a bond between the younger generations and the site.
The Queen Victoria Market opened in 1878 and eventually extended onto the car park area in 1917. This space is symbolized through the slight increase in height and a market-shed-like shelter.
The southern open space - Reflective Play, creates a more quiet and peaceful environment for visitors to enjoy and reflect in the space.
The eastern open space - Active Play, located closer to Queen Street, which invites market shoppers to rest their feet and enjoy the park.

06 & 10QVM is a tool to foster bonds among the surrounding community. The design at the Future Gardens slopes of into Queen Street and has both native and exotic plants, signifying its blending in to the market’s environment and inviting all from the market to come experience our heritage.
07 & 08Significant points in time that separate these sections are marked by timelines indicated embedded in the site surface. Boundaries in time are not as harsh as this though. To symbolize this blurred nature, grass grows between the gravel filling on the markers – spilling into the gardens and lawns in places and pulling the periods together.
09This historical cemetery is expressed through a slightly raised wooden platform which allows visitors to see in between the gaps the greenery beneath and to reflect upon the historical fact.

n the ‘Future’ section, plants are a great mixture of different variety, signifying the great cultural diversity of Melbourne and its harmonious communities.
The western corner, an open space sheltered by deciduous vines houses non-commercial activities such as the visitor centre and temporary workshop spaces. The eastern corner in comparison houses commercial retailing such as cafes, souvenirs, etc. This concept reflects the change in our society over time.

Located in the heart of Brunswick, the design seeks to provide recreational green spaces for the public and to encourage the engagement of the local community with the otherwise isolated archival building. These key aims were achieved through i) the height and depth (underground areas) of the main archival storage; ii) the physical separation between the public and the private; and iii) the use of materials. These then emphasised the archival’s dominance on site and minimised the building footprint for the use of public. Like the archive which gathers, the green spaces brings the community together through the provision of facilities such as screening wall, green roofs and performance stage. The installation of sculpture-like landscape lightings not only brings light to the underground spaces but also improves the night presence of the

visitor’s experience through the use of various lookout area. The internal spaces enhances the points like those in the reading room. The ramp which guides one into the gallery space takes the visitor on a short tour of the storage areas and provides different perspectives in the viewing of the art in exhibition. The main building constructed of recycled bricks abstracts the presentation of graffiti, a key feature in Brunswick and attempts to reconnect with brick buildings of the past. The public spaces on the other hand is cladded in timber and supports green roofs. The design pulls the ground up onto the building, attempting to further minimise its presence under the archives. The building is also designed with common ESD practiced in mind, cuts and angles in the building is hence justified for the comfort of its inhabitants.

1 CITY . 6 OBJECTS . 6 LOCATIONSThe project explores the inherent tension around cultural representation especially in formalised instutions and redefines the way cultural objects are presented to the public. This is a user-currated museum. The objects are placed in dark isolated containers, in a typical museum glass-box-on-a-plinth, infront of a blank wall. However, instead of a currated description, the user sees a message left by the previous visitors and the user is prompt to type in his/her message. These messages are compiled and projected on the back of the wall, displaying a conversation-like exhibition of thoughts.
These containers are located outside specific formal instituitions on public spaces. The instituitions provide context to the otherwise clueless exhibition and allow the users to further obtain information if they so desire.

A Dystopic Science Fiction where law and justice is governed by artificial intelligence.
ALL WATCHED OVER BY AI OF LOVING GRACE
The story is a modern utopia critiquing three key aspects of our current society. Firstly, our society’s faith and reliance on information technology, leaving increasingly more power in the hands of programmers. Secondly, our irrational desires for fame and social acceptance as theorised by Sigmund Freud, clearly exhibited in the realm of social media today. Too often have they blind us from the realities of life, leaving us vulnerable to the manipulation and deception of others. Thirdly, our current capitalist society is a biased system. Due the transferability of wealth, privileged individuals benefit from very little effort whereas others with equal or greater effort may not even rise to a standard that is remarkably close to the privileged. By removing the monetary system and the societal standard of wealth accumulation as success, the utopia aims to give everybody a fair chance to work for the success of their own life.
This book is an introduction to a story, the story between mankind’s inner desire and the rise of artificial intelligence.
WINDCRADLE In response to the LAGI 2014 Competition, the Wind Cradle is designed as an experiential landscape installation which generates electricity from wind energy.

An array of sticks hung of a series of frames sways in the wind pushing the piezoelectric mechanism behind, converting the kinetic energy into electrical energy. Observing the swaying of the sticks in the wind, visitors are encouraged to interact with the sticks to further increase energy generation. The walkways and platforms on the undulating landscape also guide visitors through an immersive journey to carefully framed views on site, a journey as if through a modern picturesque garden that power houses. The design aims to harness renewable wind energy to provide clean electrical energy for the people of Copenhagen reducing the demand of energy generation from the power station, reducing carbon emission. Various procedures have been taken to minimize the initial impact. Firstly, the design’s undulating landscape will be modified using the cut and fill technique. Secondly, all materials used are to be obtained from recycled sources. This then reduces the embodied energy of the design. Through the clear display of energy generation, visitors are brought to a greater awareness for the need of clean energy and their capability to contribute to the production of such energy. All change starts from individuals. The design hence aims to bring about sustainability awareness among its’ visitors and from there spread its message, encouraging all to contribute to a better future.

Nalanda Buddhist Society in Sri Serdang is an acknowledged Buddhist education centre in Malaysia. Since its founding in May 2003, many programmes have been held here including the WACANA Buddhist Conferences, forums, seminars, meditation retreats, sutta- study courses, holiday camps for children and youths, as well as leadership training sessions.
Besides, there are regular activities such as weekly Pūja & services, full-moon and new- moon Pūja, meditation, chanting, Dhamma talks, Dharma-School lessons, free tuition classes, youth gatherings, hosting of National Service trainees, and community programmes.
On average, 750 to 1,100 people visit and make use of Nalanda Centre weekly. The Centre has reached its full-carrying capacity since May 2011, and has to be expanded to cater for the community's needs for more quality educational programmes.
The Management of Nalanda has drawn up a facility development plan to integrate our next-door building and expand the Centre to twice its size. The expansion project is expected to cost RM1.8 million. We appeal to you to support us in this noble project, so as to make quality Buddhist education available and accessible to even more people. We thank you for your contributions!
