Aim of the BIM Centre

The Australasian Joint BIM Centre focuses on developing

world class research that will improve the performance and

productivity throughout a project’s life-cycle. The Joint

Centre acts as an allied international platform for creating

and sharing knowledge among worldwide community which

will enhance policy development and enable key industry

stakeholders to ameliorate their informed decision-making

throughout a project’s life cycle.

Joint research Project ‘Echo’ proved initial concept and will be taken

forward for further research, along with other new initiatives.

Woodside will consider the EOI from industrial co-sponsors and partners

for Project ‘Echo’ including major operators, contractors, academics, and

University is the first and strongest university-based BIM centre in

Australia. It consists of a physical BIM research suite/lab, an

advisory board and large research team.

The BIM Centre also has privileged access to the iVEC and WA’s

supercomputing nerve Centre.

• What is the problem we are addressing?

Workplace Health and Safety (WHS) Authorities in Australia have found

that 40% of all scaffolding projects do not comply with national safety

and design standards.

• Expected outcomes and how will they contribute to a

solution

(i) a comprehensive understanding of practices related to the

design and construction of temporary scaffolding structures;

(ii) digital modelling tools and processes that aid scaffolding

design and construction to improve the safety, productivity and

profitability of construction projects;

(iii) education and training requirements to facilitate the uptake of

these digital modelling technologies and thus reduce workplace

accidents while maximising social and business benefits for

construction workers and organisations.

• What is the problem we are addressing?

There is an identified industry need for BIM (Building Information

Modelling) guidelines and case studies to developed in the

infrastructure sector – especially in transport infrastructure and

in a complimentary mode to resource and mining

developments in this area.

A comprehensive review on the existing BIM guidelines and

initiatives have been collected and studied which include over

40 BIM guidelines across around 10 countries.
