I’m pleased to welcome international and Australian delegates to X|Media|Lab: Global Media Ideas, part of Vivid Sydney – our annual festival of light, music and ideas.

Vivid Sydney speaks to the world of NSW as a major creative hub in the Asia-Pacific region. It shines the spotlight on the diversity of our creative industries, with 37 per cent of the nation’s creative workforce located here in NSW.

X|Media|Lab has attracted some of the world’s best digital media and creative industries entrepreneurs to our city, the creative capital of Australia.

Fostering innovation in creative and digital media industries is central to the NSW Government’s economic strategy, and so I thank you for your contribution to Vivid Sydney 2010, and to the vibrancy and creative energy of our city.

Recognised as an exciting and vibrant city, Sydney is renowned for not just its natural beauty, but also the strength of its cultural life and economy. As a City we recognise how integral innovation is to maintaining the vibrancy of this culture.

As part of the City’s Sustainable Sydney 2030 plan, the City is focused not only on the cultivation and expression of mainstream culture and its engagement with our local community, but also in the development of the creative industries, of which innovative media is an exciting part. Forward thinking organisations such as X Media Lab are key stakeholders in this process of strengthening and exploring the possibilities of modern media and, as such, I am very pleased to welcome the Global Media Cultures event to Sydney.

Events such as this provide opportunities for Australia’s most creative minds to interact and share ideas with each other and international guests. They provide a platform for conversation and the exploration of ideas that can have a profound effect on how we engage with each other, the world around us, our history, and with the future. I am pleased that the City of Sydney can support such events.

Yours sincerely

Clover Moore MPLord Mayor of Sydney
