We are continuing our study of clothes. Last week, Miss Irene’s class made a washer out of cardboard boxes. After they made the washing machine, they washed their clothes and then thy hung them on the clothes line to dry. The children had lots of fun. This week, they will be looking at how people make clothes. Miss Martha will be bringing in her sewing machine to show the children how it works. They will be working on a class-room quilt and Miss Martha will sew it to-gether. The children will be using clothes pins to spell their names. In the discovery center,

they will be mixing dif-ferent colors of paint and see what colors they can make. Miss Bousha’s class also made a washer and dryer in their class. The children are enjoying

City Park washing and drying their laundry as well. This week they will be exploring the fea-tures of clothes. They will be practicing how to button a shirt, tie shoes, zipping up jackets, snapping snaps and lacing strings. Miss Bousha will be introducing the concept of measuring by adding rul-ers, yardsticks and measuring tapes in her classroom. When your child is getting dressed in the morning, encourage them to do their buttons and snaps on their own. To all our families, please remember the Day of the Child event at the City Park on Saturday, April 18, 2015 at 10:00 am.

Toddlers - For the week of April 20-24, 2015 we will be working on a weather theme where we will be doing an ice art activity, spray bottle painting, salt painting, watercolors on coffee filters, lacing rain boot cutouts with yarn, and singing songs such as Blow, blow, blow the wind to the tune of Row, Row, Row your boat. Preschool - This week our preschool classroom will be learning about what buildings are made of and what makes them strong. We will be creating pictures with materials that are used to build strong buildings and adding them to our centers. Some materials we will be using are things like mud, sticks, and cement. School age - The children will be planting this week. Children will continue art projects of rainbows and spring. They will be playing games in small groups such as dominoes, checkers etc.. Children will continue to work on art projects.

We are working on a brand new curriculum study called, Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle Study. We will study, different materials we can use for the study of Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle. The children will learn about several reasons, why it is important for people to recycle and reuse materials. The children will have an opportunity to name one material they will like to reuse and how they can reuse it. The children will play a game called, what’s inside the box? They will be able to find small objects inside the box that usually gets thrown away, and not reused. They will be able to identify the item, and think of a way to reuse it. The children will be able to see the objects names on a paper. They will be asked ques-tions, such as, what do we know about reducing, re-using, and recycling? The children will be able to share their ideas and thoughts, and their ideas will be written on a paper, for the class to see. We will ask the children what items they would place inside a recycling bin. They will be able to share their ideas, and learn from other peers ideas and thoughts.

The children will learn new vocabulary words, such as

empty carton, something,

nothing, poster board, and

heavy paper. The children look for materials inside the classroom that can be recycled and reused, instead of

throwing away in the trash can.

Youth & Government

On Saturday, April 11th, Y&G volunteered at the SACK Foundation Color-a-thon. We even had two runners sponsored to run, by our Board President, Dave LaVelle. Thank you Dave! The delegates had a blast! (pictures below)

We had a great year and look forward to starting up again in August!

If you would like to speak with the Y & G delegates or assist them with their research, please contact Lorena Gomez at (951) 736-9622 or [email protected]

Team Jurupa. We are proud of all of you and your State of California Community Care Licensing accomplishment of receiving a 100% at your annual review. We're confident that you will continue with even more successes. Congratulations!

This week we got a call from Thoro Packaging to donate printed popcorn boxes for our Corona-Norco Family YMCA. We will be receiving the in-kind donation of 2,500 printed popcorn boxes. Thank you Thoro Packaging!

We are always working on improving our sites to protect our families we serve. This week at the Harada site, the new fence was finished! Isn’t is beautiful?

Communication Corner On Saturday, April 25th this organization, JustServe Helping Hands/The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints and their volunteers will be at the City Park, Jurupa, and Main Y sites to assist in clearing out and organizing the storage containers/areas. Key staff will be at each site to assist and to inventory everything in each container/area.

The main contacts from JustServe are Shandra Carlsen for the Corona area and Curt Seymore for the Jurupa group. This group has a day every April that they have volunteers serve different agencies/projects in their area.

Home Depot Community Project has approved a grant to renovate the existing soccer stadium at the Main Y Facility. The in kind donation gift is worth $50,000 plus in-kind labor to do the project in two days: April 29 and 30. The Home Depot Team will provide materials, supplies, and labor through their Team Depot staff volunteers.

We are proud supporters of buying local! Every week we get a delivery from the Griffith Family Farms of oranges so that we ensure our students are eating fresh fruit daily.

Thank you Lisa and Walt Edmiston for the donation of paper to our Harada Center.
