In your own opinion do you think

State Theatre is still relevant like

out of nowhere?????

Lebo 'floet' Lubisi; Not anymore

How and when did the movement begin?

Well the movement started towards the end of May 2012, where we approached YDA

to fund us 2 start a marketing n

events company and we learned just

how we had to have a brand out

there that people loved and trusted

to be more credible and stand a

good chance to get the

funding...That's where we decided to

go for the T-shirts and brand them

with the company name.

What is the whole

concept behind Black Farmer?

Blackfarmer is all about us as black

people previously being

disadvantaged, working laboriously

to get a wage and now we have the

equal chances to tap into businesses

or even bargain top positions in multimillion rand companies...It‟s about reaping what

we previously sowed.

Are there any specific people who help push the brand?

Its jest us the co-owners (Sparx&Amo) pushing the admin and sales of It, but we do

also rely on word of mouth to get the word out there as our customers do love what we

offer and they do share it with their close friends and families, which creates a lot of

buzz for us and in turn more sales...

Bona they are making Batswana look Fashionable. In true Molemi style ‘’1without

da other will neva b on point’’, we made a stop In North West ko Tuang to talk

with Olebogeng’space-jeezy’ Lekwene and Amogelang ‘amo-smallz’ Mongale

about their label BLACK FARMER

Page 7: Y-Not Culture 1st Issue

December 2012 ◦ #IssueNo1

There are many other brands out there that have being on the market for a

while, they also being doing well over the years and have awards to prove it.

What would you say really separates the Black Farmer from the rest?

We distinguished by the fact that we still new and have nothing discrediting us as

yet, as we offer good quality tee's that people love and trust out there...We also

distinguished by the extra efforts we put in to ensure a smile with every customer

we deal with, @ times we even go to an extent of posting the T-shirts wherever the

customer is, @ an additional cost though...

What range of clothing does Black Farmer offer?

For now we are offering T-shirts as to the limited resources we have, in near future we bound to expand to cap

backs, hoodies etc. we all about what the youth want.

How can we get our hands on some Black Farmer clothing?

We working on cash on delivery, can

contact me Amo-smallz on 072 5362

801 on Facebook Amo-smallz Mongale

twitter @91Smallz or Olebogeng

Lekwene on 0787675184 and

Facebook.

What can we expect in the future? Any

other projects taking place?

We as #BlackFarmer are not just a

clothing line, we also wanna tap into

marketing& events sector, so we

spreading our focus and efforts towards

achieving that goal...

Success in one sentence?

We as #Blackfarmer believe that

Success is setting a milestone and

reaching it.

So how did it all begin? When did you start

djing?

Well I was 12 years old and I had had a friend (Hendrik) who told me that he actually makes music himself. I asked him if he could teach me, and so he gave me the basics. We kind of started a group with 2 other guys called "Sonik DNA", then those other two guys dropped out. But

that died out and ever since January of 2012 I've been doing it solo.

Has music always been what you wanted to do

in life or it is something that just came on your

path and suddenly you got interested?

Well I really had a deep love for music, and I

always wanted to do it. Then Hendrik came along,

and I seized the opportunity.

What gave you that initial push?

After about two and a half years, I took it really seriously. Finding out how the EDM industry works, I wanted to

be a part of it.

Did the Djing, Production, Promoting come 1st?

I fiddled around with software such as virtual Dj, but never properly did sets. In a professional view, production

came first.

What was the first event you ever played at/put on?

Just started recently with events, so it would be a house party "In the vill"

What's the best event you've played at/put on?

So far, it was "in the vill"

Funniest thing that ever happened at an event?

A guy tried to steal property, but the bouncers caught him

and gave him a real good beating, but it was really funny,

for me. *laugh

What was your first record you bought?

Sawgood - Ctrl ur brain (Calvertron Remix)

What computer deejay program did you first use?

To DJ I used Virtual DJ, but to produce I used FL Studio 7

What kind of equipment do you work with?

Anything that is setup for me, but I prefer cdj's to controllers and so on.

Out of all the tunes you have, which one 'never fails?'

Outside of Djing, this would have to be 'Big Bad Wolf

(Dada Life Remix)' everyone likes it, everyone I play it to.

A year ago we hardly knew who Tyron Woods I, but after being

featured on the Ultimix@6 hosted by Dj Fresh on 5fm, his being

making waves around the local Electro House Music scene .So we

decided to know the 16years old Dj/ producer.

Page 11: Y-Not Culture 1st Issue

December 2012 ◦ #IssueNo1

What's your favourite tune of all time?

This is a hard one, but I think either Dada Life - Rolling Stones T-Shirt or Calvertron - Raw 2 Da Floor (Lazy

Rich Remix)

When you play is this pre planned set?

I don't plan the whole thing but I do plan to play a few songs, not in a particular order though. Unless it's a radio

set like the Ultimix @ 6

Most people you ever played in front of?

I don't know *Laugh

What radio station first played your music?

2OV.fm in Cape town.

When all the partying is over how do you like to chill out?

I go home, and I watch Anime *Laugh, but seriously I do. Usually Naruto.

Since you still 16 years old, how do you

balance your school work and deejaying?

Well this is why I chose to do home-

schooling. It's much shorter than a

public school system; I do only what I

need to. So it's usually 3 hours of

school a day, altogether. This gives me

extra time for music.

So how is the scene in your eyes at the

moment? One thing you would change

about the current local music scene?

I love the EDM scene you know. I wouldn't really change it, but I would add on to the industry. Just, as I'm sure, other people do, who make record labels and individual musical companies. It all benefits to the system.

I’ve noticed you from Durban KZN, that part of the country is considered the capital of entertainment and

its overwhelmed by kawito, dance and tribal house deejays, why did you chose electro music?

Well, Electro house, speaks to me much more than anything else does. The people that have crossed my path

and who I have grown up with generally lead me or accompany me to where I am. It has taken me to Electro,

and I like it.

You recently did a mix for the Fresh Drive on 5fm, a show hosted by one of the top Djs in the world Dj

Fresh, and the mix was hugely accepted by the listeners. How was the feeling of star struck?

Ahh man, it was awesome. It really exposed me nicely. I think it has helped me a lot, and.. it made me feel very

excited to have stayed on track.. for four years.

Since the mix on fresh drive, were you approached by record labels or you prefer being an indie DJ?

No, I haven't been approached, but I have music, made by me, signed to labels overseas, France, Italy etc... I have contact with people in charge of record labels here in S.A as well.

Page 12: Y-Not Culture 1st Issue

12

December 2012 ◦ #IssueNo1

How big is your vinyl collection? What do you think of CDJ's?

I don't have any Vinyl's, and for people that think vinyl's are for "Real DJ's", vinyl's are good, good dj's use

them, but there are good dj's with cdj's. Cdj's are just Vinyl's upgraded with technology. It's like from a Nokia

3310 to a smart phone nowadays. But, Everyone is entitled to their own opinion though.

Who is your favourite DJ?

Dada Life. They are the by far the most amazing for me. I love their music and there funny personalities.

Other DJs you rate?

Archie, Paul Makuta, Jakob Liedholm, Lazy Rich, Darth & Vader. These guys are all my favourites, mostly

underground.

So, Tyron, What is your favourite song from the past 5 years

Clavertron - Raw 2 Da Floor (Lazy Rich Remix) from 2010.

Favourite Lyrics?

In EDM this would be Rolling Stones T-Shirt. It's just so unmeaningful that it has humour to it *Laugh or it

would be the lyrics from Skylar Grey 'Room For Happiness' Produced by Kaskade.

What are your music predictions or 5 year plan of your

music?

I would really like to have gone on world tour, Get signed to

Spinnin' Records and DJ in Tommorowland.

What do you do outside of the electro music scene?

I Draw, Dance, and I make short films, Music Video's and

Documentaries, with my friends. We are building portfolio

currently.

What advice would you give to up and coming

DJs/Promoters?

Never Give up. It really does get tough sometimes.

O Hail

You were recently crowned THE KING OF LIMPOPO in the 1st SAHHA, how does it feel to receive such

recognition from a province that is so blossoming with talent?

It is an honour to be recognised in a platform of the SAHHA‟s calibre, we never expected that.

What are your in takes of the introduction of the SAHHA? What does it mean for hip hop?

I believe it‟s a gigantic initiative that recognises work done for the development of hip-hop; you will remember that in

South Africa we never had such a platform except for the Hype magazine awards.

Not so long ago another award ceremony was held in Limpopo, the Tshivenda Music Awards where we saw

Mizo Phyll walking away with the hip hop award at that event. How does this raise the bar for the hip hop

community in Limpopo?

This goes to show that it is high time hip-hop got its piece of the cake in the province, we have been working under a

lot of hardships where hip-hop was never given a chance now because of combined efforts from hip-hop heads, we

are claiming what is rights fully ours.

So how is the scene in your eyes at the moment? Hip Hop scene in Limpopo that is, since you are the

crowned KING.

We still have a lot of work to do, the recognition to me means we have to work even harder, Until we have a situation

where we will have artists performing in a music festival dedicated to hip-hop we will never rest we need to have a

situation where artist will get paid for doing shows unlike what is happening

now where we are been exploited by those who have the powers and

resources to host big events.

What was your first job in radio? Early influences?

I started as a manager and radio trainer for a narrowcasting radio station and

then became a radio producer, that‟s where I learned quite a wealth of

knowledge in radio and media in general.

What led you to a career in radio? Was there a defining moment that

made you realize "this is it"?

Initially I wanted to do sound engineering but as I grew up I kind of

developed the love for youth and community development and media was

the way to fulfil both the love for working with people and radio.

If you were just starting out in radio, knowing now, what you didn't

then, would you still do it?

Most definitely, one of my lectures once told me radio is the theatre of the mind and it is, even though I didn‟t

understand then it now makes sense to me.

You host a show called Trail Blazer, tell us about it?

Yooh, it‟s a hip-hop show on Sekhukhune community radio which airs every Saturday between six and nine in the

evening. On the show we play 100% African Hip-hop with a full two hours dedicated to Limpopo hip-hop and

specifically Sekhukhune hip-hop. We also host a variety of local artists for interviews and have tele-interviews with

National artist who can‟t make it to the in studio interview.

Where do you see the industry and Trail Blazer five years from now?

With Trailblazer I believe its growing and in five years‟ time even if it can no longer be me who is running it, it would

definitely be one of those big hip-hop shows in the country advocating for the development of Hip-hop in our rural area

and as for the industry, it is currently a time bomb waiting to explode, in five years‟ time we will be having our own

artist know all over Africa and the world and a consistent hip-hop revolution.

How do you feel about SKFM competing with Capricorn FM for listenership around your radar?

I believe it‟s a good and healthy competition it helps us to be on our toes at all times and event our listeners have a

variety of what to listen to.

What's your take on radio currently? Is it as good as six months ago, better or about the same?

There‟s not much difference as the past six months is just that now it‟s even more vibey and informative because we

grow on a daily basis.

If you were given a chance to join a national radio station, would you take the offer? And which station would

it be?

I would take the offer and I would go for Capricorn or Thobela fm.

Other Hip Hop radio DJs you rate? And what/why do you rate

them?

-C-LIVE : rate him 08 out of Ten because the guy is just too good

and he has changed that idea of saying national radio station are

only for international and national artists he gives artists a chance

to be heard whether big or small

-Siz and SCOOP: rate them 08 out of ten because their

combination is that one that redefines hip-hop radio they also are

creative when comes to the way they have packaged the show and

also for representing all levels of hip-hop

If you were to be given a chance to choose anyone to come

co-host with you on Trail Blazer. Who would it be and why that

person?

It has to be a lady by the name of HHDIVA from Elim in Limpopo,

she is not a radio presenter but a hip-hop artist and it‟s because

with my interactions with her I Can tell if she was to be given a

chance to host a hip-hop radio show anywhere it would definitely be

a killer show, she is informative about the art form and always up to date.

When you of air how do you like to chill out?

I usually chill with the boys mostly my colleagues and it is usually here where we come up with Ideas about

development in our district.

When you go on air is the whole show pre planned? Or you just do your thing?

There is thorough preparation that I do a week before the show and I always make sure that I give myself some time

(Two hours at the station) before the actual show.

Funniest thing that ever happened while you on air?

A listener once called in on our know your lyrics feature where I was asking about Tuks senganga „s SETSWANA

lyrics on the Levili net so track and when I asked who sings the lyrics the listener said it was R-KELLY.

What is the one truth that has held constant throughout your career? Or the motto that kept you going?

My motto is “stagnant waters attracts impurities” and I always remain as original as possible and work according to the

mandate of a community radio station which is to serve the community.

Of all the skills you have gained through the years, is there an area you'd like to improve?

Networking and negotiations.

As you look back over your career ... any regrets? Missed opportunities?

Once missed an opportunity to go work overseas but it was for the best because I wouldn‟t have been here.

What do you do with a song you don't like?

If its radio material it does get air play because like I said it‟s not about me but the listeners.

Where did the name DJ Chocos come from?

Back in high school I used to sell cudbery chocolates and I would shout Chocos every time I wanted buyers‟ attention

so they all ended up calling me calling me Chocos.

What was the first South African Hip Hop album you bought?

Skwattakamp –Khut and Join

What's your favourite South African hip hop tune of all time?

Phantom Slikour - Shine

What are your feelings on the whole Jub Jub saga?

It is an unfortunate situation for him, and hip-hop however my heart bleeds for the families that lost their children and I

believe we all need take responsibility of our actions, Justice must prevail.

A lot of youngster want to pursue a career in being a radio jockey, what advice will you give them in one line?

School, school and more school, we need to equip ourselves first and the other thing is that people needs to do what

they love not because it sounds like it has fame.

Tranforming Lives with D33 Lanie

Save the Naxin by Dee Lanie It is sad to see how relationships are turning out to be these days. It is no longer about love

but all about benefits. Guys go around telling girls how much they ‘love’ them and girls

being emotional beings, just fall for it and things start to go wrong when a guy start

demanding sex, forgetting that the Bible stated that “sex before marriage is a sin”. It also

state in 1Corinthians 7:9 that

“But if you cannot contain yourself then go ahead and marry than burn with lust”, which is

way better than falling into sin all the time.

One thing girls should know is that once you give your all to the guy, you stay attached to

him, but it is not the same with him. He is not going to stick with you because you gave him

what he wanted, why would you think what he wanted from you, he won’t want from the

next girl? Face reality, Seek first the Kingdom of God and everything else shall be added

unto you. We are leaving in the last days, you need to make your ways right with God first,

that way it will put you in the right position of hearing Him. Sacrificing for a boyfriend is not

going to take you to Heaven and hell is so real.

Girls on the other hand have too much love for material things, any guy is accepted as long

as he is popular, has money, is from a rich family, has a car and many other stuff. Guys end

up hurt when they have made a lot of sacrifice and just get dumped out of nowhere, the

reason being that the girl got what she wanted and wants to enjoy it with the one she loves.

This causes confusion to guys and they end up trusting nobody because of the past

experience, which leads to them being heartbreakers and hurting the next girl that really

loves them, then they end up losing who they are meant to be with.

What’s with the rush, it is said that walking is way better than running. Didn’t God promise

that He shall add everything unto you if you seek first His Kingdom? He is not like a man, He

can never fail you. All you need to do is make Him the centre of it all, let your relationship

be like a triangle, you and your partner at the bottom, becoming one in God as you move

up. GOD is writing the best love story ever, just for YOU!! It’s only a matter of time, waiting

on His best timing. KEEP HIM FAITH!!

Continues…..

Sometimes in life we become so much in love that we would sacrifice anything for our partner.

One day there was a girl who was so in love with her boyfriend. He was her first love. Everything

seemed so right whenever she is with him but the sad part is, the guy did not really feel the same

way. You know they say love is like an elastic band held at both sides, when one leaves, it hurts

the other, so because the guy didn’t feel so much love for the girl just as the girl did, he started

cheating. The poor girl didn’t know and her love for the guy would grow fonder by the day. Then

there was a time when she had rumours that the guy was cheating and whenever she confronted

the guy about it, he would tell her that it is not true and that people just want to see them

separated. Because the girl loved him so much, she would fall for it. One day her boyfriend’s

closest friend told her about everything her boyfriend does behind her back, it was really sad. She

gave him a second chance, actually not a second chance because the guy kept on repeating the

same mistake over and over again. Then the last time she asked her boyfriend why he had been

cheating, he told her it is because she doesn’t want to sleep with him. The girl couldn’t change the

situation as she planned to stay pure until the time is right. The guy still continued on cheating to

a point where he made it obvious just to get back to the girl as she refused his request. The girl

got very upset and decided that she had had enough and now it’s time to quit. When a guy saw

that now she is keeping away, he tried to win her back but it was too late for that.

LESSON

Relationships are not all about sex. You can have a boyfriend/girlfriend and things work out well

without sleeping together. From the story, it shows that the girl loved her boyfriend so much but

she knew God has to come first, always. The bible speaks of sex before marriage being a sin, and

so don’t think if you can’t satisfy your boyfriend by not having sex with him, you are stupid,

always know that once you obey God, then everything else is being taken care of. You can try

please a person but he is not going to be the only one who will want to be pleased, and when you

start doing so, it means God comes second.

Want to know where it all ended? well the girl stopped doing things her own way and waited for

God’s best timing and during the course, she drew closer to God each day, as for the guy, pleading

for her love has become his daily song simply because he has now seen better future wife in her.

To all the girls, “a woman’s heart should be hidden in Christ that a man will seek Him(Christ)first

in order to find her” do not ever settle for less, you deserve better, if he is for you then he will wait

until it is the right time.

To all the guys, do not let diamond pass you by while busy collecting stones, “respect that like

your mother, protect her like your daughter and love her like your wife”.

Leaving everything to God and making Him the centre is the best policy.

ALWAYS REMEMBER THAT GOD IS WRITING THE BEST LOVE STORY FOR YOU!! TRUST

IN HIS BEST TIMING!!
