What’s this? A new Christian organization?

For some time now many churches

have struggled (in different ways) to

provide all that young adults need to

grow to maturity in Christ.

The figures speak for themselves:

Up to 80% of all Christians be-

come Christians before age 18 *

Then up to 80% of all Christians

leave church by age 28 **

What are we proposing?

To provide extra time and resources

for young adults to be trained in the

gospel, to:

‘own’ their faith with confidence,

take their place in our churches,

using their gifts with commit-

ment

become a ‘hub’ that encourages

unity of action among the

churches, with practical models

for evangelism

Why?

Young Adult Headquarters Maturity in Christ

Directors: Ben Allen (secretary) Terrence Morse (Treasurer) Paul Harper (Chairperson, Public Officer) Liam Howlett Harley Hunneybell

“To you has been given the keys to the kingdom of God”

Our Values:

God’s word to be read, taught and inwardly digested to nourish and build God’s people

God’s gospel The power of God for salvation, en-trusted to the church

God’s character Revealed and imparted to God’s people through his word and Spirit, for leadership and ministry to equip all the saints

God’s gifts Distributed according to God’s choice for God’s purposes

* “When Americans Become Christian” (Nazarene Church Growth Research); NCLS Australia 2001, 2011; ** Lifeway Research USA 2014; Southern Baptist Convention 2002; The Barna Group and USA Today 2014

Our Vision

This new ministry has developed from a perceived

need among young adults who are hungry for

more of God’s word, wanting to make better sense

of the world they live in and their place within it.

The team at YAHQ are responding in obedience to

the Lord, out of love for young adults and their

particular needs.

Our vision is to see God’s church reinvigorated,

across denominations. We see Unity of purpose

as the key to revival. Building upon the one gospel

we share, while focussing strategically on the one

demographic positioned to have greatest effect,

makes good sense. This is the vision God has laid

on our hearts and minds, to:

See large numbers of young adults brought to

maturity in Christ, with real opportunities to

question and explore all the difficult issues

they face. But then to take their place more

fully within their churches, to be confident

drivers of outreach to our needy world.

Serve with the broad spectrum of gifts that

God has given, developing those gifts, provid-

ing a ‘testing ground’ for young adults to grow

in the use of them.

Identify leaders of the future, affirmed by a

large body of their peers.

Have young adults themselves completely run-

ning this company within 3 years, with the assis-

tance of older mentors and pastors.

Run this company with a valid model of Christian

leadership which by necessity is different, and

requires the utmost accountability and integrity.

Genuinely seek and obtain every possible part-

nership with churches and Christian organizations

in the Ballarat region, for their benefit and the

benefit of our community.

Become a focus of unity and energy for running

and resourcing large young adult events like

camps and conventions.

Become a launching pad for supporting creative

youth outreach initiatives.

Our Methods

We hope to achieve our objectives mainly by running a

midweek meeting from an independent site in central

Ballarat. There we hope to alternate each week with:

Preaching a sermon, followed by Q&A session, and

tips for budding preachers by critiquing the sermon

Leading a Bible study, followed by small group as-

sessment of the study, and tips for budding small

group leaders

Hearing a testimony, followed by a panel interview,

to tease out the predominant themes and aspects

of the testimony we can all learn from

While also encouraging:

Expression and discernment of spiritual gifts

Times of shared and open prayer

Challenging but sensitive questions of any sort

Continued attendance at churches

a new church

a gospel partnership

(Philippians 1:5)

Young Adults – from all churches,

for all churches,

as one,

into the world for Christ
