Principal’s News Welcome back to Week 3 of Term 4. This week I will be attending the 2014 Australian Primary Principals’ Conference in Sydney and will be out of school. When I return next Monday I will be supervising the Year 5/6 students on their excursion to Borambola Sport and Recreation Centre, returning Wednesday. Mrs McClymont will be teaching K/1/2 this Friday, while Mrs Judy Farrell took my normal lessons with K/1/2 and Year 3-6 on Wednesday. Please direct all enquiries to Mrs McClymont in my absence. Jump Rope for Heart Students have been completing skipping activities during the Fundamental Movement Skills Program after recess each day in preparation for Jump Rope for Heart which will be held on Wednesday, 5 November 2014. Kindergarten Transition The Kindergarten Transition Program continues this term with normal activities on Wednesday, 22 October 2014 and next Wednesday, 29 October 2014. These will be followed by Orientation Days on Wednesday 5 and 12 of November. Further details are included in the newsletter. Environmental Education Two activities will take place this term as part of the school’s environmental education programs. On Friday, 21 November 2014 students in Years 5/6 will travel to the Wagga Wagga Environmental Education Centre with Year 5/6 students from Wamoon, Whitton and Murrami Public Schools as part of Leeton Small School’s Enrichment Programs. On Thursday, 4 December 2014 the Enviromentors will visit the school to present environmental education workshop to all students in years K-6. Grandparents Day Grandparents have always played a valuable role in our society by offering care, love and guidance to their children and grandchildren. The NSW Government officially recognises this contribution with Grandparents Day, which this year will be held on Sunday, 26 October 2014. As part of this initiative, students in the K/1/2 class will visit Carramar Aged Care Facility on Wednesday, 29 October and a special grandparent’s item will be performed during primary assembly on Thursday, 30 October 2014. Grandparents are invited to arrive at 10 am on Thursday to spend time in the classrooms and experience what modern day classrooms are like. Morning Supervision A lot of students are arriving at school very early each morning. Please be aware that supervision does not commence until 8.45 a.m. Assembly Awards Merit Awards must be handed in to the office by Monday. 29th October to be ready for this month’s Assembly.

News from the Classrooms Years 3-6 Each Thursday, with Mr Allen, students in Year 3-6 are completing a weekly research challenge utilising blogging and technology resources such as Google Maps and Google Earth. Students are participating in short lessons to equip them with the basics of Google Maps and Google Earth. The challenge questions are published on Blog ED, with students logging into the student portal, finding the questions on the blog, researching the answers and posting them as a reply on the blog.

Five Cool Things You Can Do in Google Earth

1. View an image of your home, school or any place on Earth - Click Fly To. Enter the location in the input box and click the Search button. In the search results (Places panel), double click the location. Google Earth flies you to this location. 2. Tour the world - In the Places panel, open the Sightseeing Tour folder and double click Start tour here. 3. Get driving directions from one place to another and fly (follow) the route - See Getting Directions and Touring the Route. 4. View recent historical imagery for your favourite locations - In the 3D Viewer menu, choose the Clock button to enable Historical Imagery. Then, use the time slider to view interesting place marks throughout recent history. See Viewing Historical Imagery for more information. 5. View 3D terrain of a place - This is more fun with hilly or mountainous terrain, such as the Grand Canyon. Go to a location (see number 1). When the view shows the location, use the zoom slider to tilt the terrain. See Using the Navigational Controls and Tilting and Viewing Hilly Terrain for more information.

Sports Report Year 3/4 Soccer Gala Day A reminder that this week students in Years 3 and 4 will participate in the LNPSSA Year 3/4 Soccer Gala Day on Friday. Blogs What are they? - A blog (which is an abbreviation of weblog) is a personal website that can be easily updated. Blogs usually look like online diaries, but can include pictures and videos. How do they work? - Anyone can blog, and there are countless websites that provide tools to do so. Blogs are often free to set up and use, but may charge for more advanced features. Why are blogs useful? - Blogs are a great way of keeping up with friends and reading about the interesting lives and opinions of other people. Good blogs often include useful links to sites of shared interest.

Kinder Transition Kinder transition during term 3 was a huge success with 6 students preparing for ‘big school’ next year. Due to this success, it has been decided that there will be an extra two days of transition and an extra day of orientation. Wednesday 22nd October (Week 3) and Wednesday 29th October (Week 4) will be the two transition days. These two days will start as normal at 12:30 and finish at 3:15. All transition students will be required to bring their lunch and a hat. Wednesday 5th November (Week 5) will stay as the first day of orientation and Wednesday 12th November (Week 6) will be the second orientation day. These two days will start at 9:00 and finish at 3:15. All transition students will be required to bring their recess, lunch and a hat. As Wednesday 5th November is our Jump Rope for Heart Day, it is recommended that all students wear appropriate clothing and footwear. There will be a short meeting for all parents in the library on Wednesday 12th November starting at 2:30. This will be an overview of what is expected for next year, time to purchase school uniforms, information about Best Start Testing in Term 1, 2015 and general information for 2015.

The school vegetable garden has silver beet, beetroot and carrots

available for a gold coin donation.

BREAKFAST A large number of students are arriving at school

each day missing breakfast.Breakfast is arguably the most important meal of the day. Studies show that students simply function better in all areas when a

healthy breakfast is eaten. If mornings are too busy for a sit-down meal, try

having some easy-to-go breakfast foods available for your child. Good options include yogurt, granola bars, dried cereal, breakfast bars, fresh and dried fruit .

You could even make some toast and let them eat it in the car on the way to school.
