Minutes of the Annual General Meeting (AGM) Held at YB Connections

Tuesday 11 September 2018

Meeting’s Opening: President, David Tidey, opened the meeting at 6.35 pm.

Apologies: Marty Hunt, Rose and Col Nation. Previous Minutes: The Minutes of the AGM held on 12 September 2017 have been

available to members on the Chamber website. Moved by Sheila, seconded by Sepp that the 2017 AGM Minutes as circulated be accepted. All Agreed.

Treasurer’s Report: Audited statement indicating a balance of $974.85 was tabled by the

Treasurer along with a Profit & Loss and Balance Sheet as of 30 June 2018 certified by Greg Dunn of Greg Dunn & Associates Accountant. Moved Pat, seconded Leon that the report be received. All Agreed.

President’s Report: David read his President’s Report 2017/18 (copy attached). Election of Officers: The current office bearers vacated their positions and Greg Rogerson

chaired the election process. Nominations were called for the following positions: President: David Tidey nominated Leon Granzien for President, seconded Rose

Nation. No other nominations. Elected unopposed. Thanks expressed to Leon. Vice President: Leon Granzien nominated Col Nation for Vice President,

seconded Sheila Butcher. No other nominations. Elected unopposed. Secretary: No nominations were received. The Secretary position will be held

over to the October 2018 Chamber meeting. Treasurer: David Tidey nominated Pat Cordwell for Treasurer, seconded Sheila

Butcher. No other nominations. Elected unopposed. Committee members: David Tidey was nominated by Rose Nation, seconded by

Pat Cordwell. Agreed. Sheila Butcher was nominated by Pat Cordwell, seconded by Leon Granzien. All Agreed. Thanks were expressed to all office holders.

Appointment of Auditor: Pat Cordwell moved that we appoint Greg Dunn to be our auditor again for year 2018-2019. Seconded by Lynda Tomkins. All Agreed.

Signatories: Moved by Pat Cordwell that bank signatories be changed as per AGM to

President; Leon Granzien, Secretary; to be confirmed, Amy Patricia (Pat) Cordwell; Treasurer. Any one (1) to sign. Pat to get form from bank to be filled out and signed. Seconded by Sheila Butcher. All Agreed.

Membership Fees: After discussion it was decided that membership fees remain at $75

for the 2018/2019 financial year. Moved by Leon Granzien, seconded Pat Cordwell. All Agreed. Meeting closed at 7.15 pm.

Presidents Report 2017 /18

As I step down I want to thank everyone for the past 7 years. I took this role on for a 12 month period as

there was no one else able to. I have done my best to help the town to negotiate a few difficult times

and move toward a prosperous and successful future. I believe we are well positioned for future growth

and the town is stronger now than when I came. As I walk down Stevens St this morning, all the shops

(bar 1) are full or about to start. Most of the businesses throughout our town are prospering and

growing. I look forward to seeing the next era of our town.

Street Scaping in Farrell St

The roundabout in Stevens Street was not approved from Main Roads. The roundabout was a part of the

future planning submitted by residents and businesses in Yandina in 2001. Since the money has been

allocated to our town we have funds that can be used in our town area.

The Council hosted a public town meeting to discuss the way forward for us. It was followed up with

plans for street scaping of Farrell St incorporating the feedback they received from the public. After

months of negotiations with a small number of business owners, the plans are receiving final approval

by TMR and they aim to start building in October, finishing before the Christmas School holidays

The goal for the streetscaping is to provide a safer area for cars and pedestrians and a more visual

pleasing aspect to the town centre. Another win this year has been the rezoning of Farrell St down to a

50 speed zone.

Yandina Street Fair

This year was the 41st anniversary of the Yandina Street Fair. We received a grant from the council of

$5000. Thanks to the generous support of the Sunshine Coast Council. Thanks also to the generous

support of many of businesses from our town. The fair was full again this year and it was an excellent

day. It was wonderful to end the music this year with the Phil Emmanuel band after his untimely death a

few months prior.

Unfortunately, it is very disappointing to see the lack of support, and to some extent, the animosity from

some of the retailers in the main street. The street fair is a celebration of our town, both the businesses

and the residential community, which I believe it does incredibly well.

Thanks to the amazing group of people that come together to make this happen. They all work

exceedingly hard and pull off a great and significant event. Also thanks to Leon G who stepped into my

role for a couple of months while I was away.

Media and Advertising

We ran a Sunshine Coast wide promotion of our town in the coast’s free newspapers through 2017. We

had 5 businesses commit to a 5 month advertising campaign (one of which will be a group of businesses

in the town centre). Each month we were able to promote various aspects of our town to the residents

and businesses on the coast. We focused on the town centre, history, recreation around town, food

base industries and Yandina Street Fair.

Boomerang bags

The Chamber is promoting the lessening of the usage of plastic bags in our town. This was reinforced by

the state govt decision to cease single use plastic bags. We are working with a program called

boomerang bags to fabricate reusable bags for people to use. This program was launched late in 2017.

These bags will be made by people our community from recycled materials. People will collect them

from local businesses and return them when they are finished with them. Thanks to the QCWA who

have taken on a lot of the responsibility in this. We are still getting requests for bags and people t

wanting to be involved.

NBN

The NBN was promised to be ready early 2017. Recent checking of the progress has seen it pushed out

to the end of 2018. We pursued a quicker time frame through our federal member and other channels.

Nothing was to change through our pursuits. The rollout has begun in the past couple of weeks.

According to NBN it is now available in town. It is upgraded from the original service as they are

supplying fibre to out side the house rather than to a common node servicing 200 dwellings. This should

be far faster and more reliable than the older service around Australia.

RV Parking

After years of negotiating with Railways and Council, the park off Railway St is designated for RV parking

as well as being available for the general public and workers in tow. Signs have now gone up.

We notified the Council that we would not be able to undertake running a free camp area at Eriandra

Park as we could not guarantee appropriate management. More recently we have made a request to

pursue overnight parking in this space with Council.

Christmas Carols

The Carols went well last year. This year’s event was in the midst of a rain event and the grounds of the

Historic House were very swampy. It was relocated to the Yandina School and worked out very well.

Thanks to the school for accommodating us at short notice. There were about 400 hundred people in

attendance and the Baptist church did an exceptional job in the running of this event. This years event is

scheduled for the 9th December.

Website and Facebook pages

We still run Yandina happenings, yandinabuylocal, Yandina chamber of commerce and Yandina street

fair facebook pages. We have also had some good response from the web page we set up last year and

thanks to Liz for continuing to run that. Thanks to Liz for keeping the webpage up to date.

Sunshine Coast Business Awards

Congrats to Smartline Machinery and CoYo who both won their categories at the awards this year.

Law and order

I have had meeting with our state representatives and a couple of business owners in town about the

lobbying for a police station in Yandina and for at least a stronger presence in our town. They are

discussing this with police hierarchy. I have also met with Nambour Alliance and are supporting the

action to have a new police station built in Nambour and tightening the bail conditions of offenders.

Grant Application

In conjunction with a few different community groups in ton we have submitted an expression of

Interest for a $100 000 grant from the gambling fund in celebration of the 150th anniversary of the

gazetting of the town. This selects capitol works on the School of Arts, Gatehouse and sundial projects

as well as an auditory historical trail joined to the current trail.

Local Development

The Chamber hosted a few town meetings to discus development happening around town. These were

for the Streetscaping, Yandina Holiday Park, Creightons Road zoning changes and Yandina Shopping

Centre expansion. Further discussion were had with these owners and Council representatives.

Caboolture Creek Bridge

Lobbying continues in partnership with Council and YADCA re Caboolture Creek Bridge expension. The

latest involves updates future flooding projections which counters the TMR projections and simplifies

their construction needs and expenditure.

Regional

I have also attended a few other meetings in regard to business growth, future goals, law and order and

more specific issues on a state and federal level.

Nambour Alliance

I have also attended a couple of meetings regarding homeless and social welfare and other various

reasons issues in the region. There is an opportunity of creating a network between the hinterland

chambers to empower each other and support common interests.

Regional Sunshine Coast Chamber Alliance

There have been many positive things that have come out of the Alliance. The new website is up and

running, promoting the coast through local chambers. The address of the website is

There is a Business Mentoring program beginning. The first year will be about 12 mentors with 12

mentorees, expanding next year.

The Business Awards have now come under the running of the Alliance. This in an excellent way of

recognizing small business as a whole in our community as well as promoting some incredible local

businesses. Last year Yandina businesses won 2 categories, the year before a Yandina Business took out

the major award.

Another project is the Ripple Effect. This is connecting large projects with smaller local businesses. The

predominant projects recently have been the Airport and hospital.

We are also at the moment creating a grant application assistance program where businesses can access

people and businesses to help write grant applications for a reduced fee.
