A MESSAGE FROM THE CEOCongratulations to the Neil and his team at the Golf Club, who recently completed development works to the new short game practice area. It was a huge day for all involved and thanks also goes out to Ian Carruthers and John Tibbits for volunteering. Further works to the new 1st tee and fairway will commence in the coming weeks.
The GEC is featuring the Pink Ribbon Breakfast on Friday 11th October, the Fun Fashion Parade on the 12th October and Oktoberfest is back on Saturday 19th October starting at 2.00 pm. All events are raising money for their respective charities and we encourage members to show their support for these wonderful events.
Back by popular demand our ‘Luck be a Lady’ promotion will commence on the 28th October with the major prize being a $10,000 diamond ring to be drawn on NYE. Leading up to the big draw there will be $30,000 in guaranteed cash prizes on offer in our fortnightly cash draws.
Tickets are now on sale for our popular Christmas lunch on the 25th December, please purchase your tickets online and be quick as we expect the event to sell out.
Have a great October.
Cheers!

JUNIOR SPORTS STARNICHOLAS BARTON – AthleticsNic was recently named age champion at the Port Curtis athletics trials after competing in 12 events across two days.
Nic is an all-rounder when it comes to athletics, but if he had to choose one event that is his favourite, it would be high jump. After an amazing result at the 2019 Coles QLD Athletics Championships, he was sent to Olympic Park, Sydney in April to compete in the U16 Men’s High Jump at the 2019 Australian Track and Field Championships.
In his spare time Nic coaches his younger brother’s U7 soccer team. Being a mentor and role model to younger athletes is something that he enjoys and he hopes he can encourage others to achieve.
GAVIN WILSON-TYERS – Rugby Union & Rugby LeagueGavin trains hard and excels in his chosen sports of Rugby League, Rugby Union and Martial Arts. In 9 days he played 17 games of league and union. He finished his last game for the season, with his team (Wallaby’s JRL) being undefeated in 2019!
After carnivals Gavin has had many opposition players approach him to shake his hand, ask for a photo and congratulate him. He has a very big, kind and humble heart. He has wonderful supporting family, friends, team mates and coaches.
Gavin trains at Beast Martial Arts on Monday and Wednesday and also does one-on-one personal training with his coach to improve his strength, speed and fitness.
ZAC PERRY – MotorXZac has also won the Local MX championship for his age group for 3 years in a row, plus highest point scorer 3 times in the last 4 years. He is currently sitting in 4th place for the AORC’s and 2nd in the QLD Enduro Championship.
Zac is also in the lead for the Junior Lite Class for the local MX championship and for the Southern Central QLD series. He was also the only junior in 2018 who raced 2 classes at the Yeppoon Enduro X, finishing in 1st place in the Mini Lites & 3rd in the Junior Lites classes. He has won the Orange to Ocean MX series the last few years as well.
You can check out his Facebook page Z03 Zac Perry or his Instagram @zac_perryz03!
JACK NEILL-BALLANTINE – Martial ArtsJack recently received 1 gold and 2 bronze medals at the recent Matt Fiddes Australian Championships.
In June, Jack travelled to the Sunshine Coast and competed in the Matt Fiddes Australian Championships where he placed 1st in kick-boxing, 3rd in higher grade kick-boxing and 3rd on sparring. He is now set to compete in the World Championships next year.
Jack has only been training in Martial Arts for a year and a half and has been training so hard to get where he is today.

THE GREAT BARRIER REEF’S WILSON ISLAND SET TO RE-OPEN IN NOVEMBERSurrounded only by pristine white beaches and crystal blue seas, the picturesque and remote Wilson Island on the Great Barrier Reef will re-open for overnight guests on November 1st.
Returning to its former glory thanks to Canadian owners Aldesta Hotel Group, Wilson Island covers just 5.24 acres of seclusion in a setting of unrivalled natural beauty. Hosting only 18 guests at one time, Wilson Island will offer nine designer inspired tents for overnight stays, complimented with an island hosts catering to all the culinary and service needs of guests.
Evening meals will be served from an open kitchen setting at The Longhouse, a central dining area for socialising and relaxing. The island menu will have a distinctive Australian feel, utilising fresh and local ingredients for a true sea to table experience. Guests can also choose to order meals picnic style on the beach or arrange private deck or beach dining.
The eco-friendly island is powered only by battery or solar, and due to its secluded location there is no wifi on Wilson Island, allowing guests to switch off from the outside world and truly feel at one with nature.
The island is a natural coral cay, both part of the Great Barrier Reef and surrounded by it. An unimaginable variety of marine life surround Wilson Island, making it one of the best snorkelling locations on the Great Barrier Reef. Guests can enjoy snorkelling directly off the beach with all equipment provided or join the island hosts for a guided island and reef walk.
Located at the southern tip of the Great Barrier Reef off the coast of Gladstone Queensland, Wilson Island is accessible via the Heron Island ferry that departs from Gladstone marina daily (except Tues and Thurs). Once on Heron Island, a private boat will meet Wilson Island guests for a 40 minute transfer to seclusion. Air transfers via helicopter or seaplane are also available from Gladstone Airport to Heron Island, providing a birds-eye view of the Great Barrier Reef on landing. The Wilson Island launch will also meet up with all air arrivals at Heron Island.
