1 Can you feel the heat? Whether it was to take a vaca- tion and kicking back or trying to make some money, summer was a great time for having fun. Quite a few students were able to go out of state for vacation. “I went to Minnesota to visit family and to go to the Mall of America,” said freshman Kacey Zoubek. Some lucky students even got to go out of the country. “I went to Hondu- ras,” said junior Mitzy Reyes. “While I was there I got to visit family and travel the country.” Other students stayed at home and kicked back with a good book. Fresh- man Katlynn Dewey said, “I read the whole young adult section in the Crete Public Library; I read every day.” Summer was a busy time. Some- times there wasn’t enough time in the day to get things done. “I went to Illinois for National Point Guard Camp and then Colorado for a family vacation,” said freshman Alex Hewitt. “In my spare time 3 2 Having some summer fun, junior Brooke Zoubek and seventh grader Brittney Zoubek take a wild ride in a spinning tea cup at Adventureland Amusement Park in Des Moines, Iowa. Summertime: I babysat and read almost every day.” Summer wasn’t just for fun and games. Some students spent their time learning responsibility while having a job. “I worked at Sid Dillon washing cars,” said senior Michael Wade. Some students even got to work along-side family. Junior Brian Sehnert said, “Over the summer I worked on farming equip- ment with family and went to figure-eight races and the rodeo with my friends.” Many enjoyed a good laugh and the relaxed time that only summer can bring. “Being a lifeguard was the most memorable part of my summer,” said senior Jacy Hewitt. “One day, two of the other guards stole my keys and parked my car inside of the pool gates two inches from the water! We played pranks like that all the time.” Spending time with family, working hard, and having a good time is what summer was all about. It was a time every student couldn’t help but enjoy.
