PROFILE
Yogesh Chander Deveshwar was born on 4February 1947 in Lahore, British India. Hereceived his Bachelor of Technology Degreein Mechanical Engineering from the IndianInstitute of Technology, Delhi in 1968. Y CDeveshwar joined ITC Limited in 1968. He wasappointed as a Director on the Board of theCompany in 1984 and became the ChiefExecutive and Chairman of the Board in 1996.

and Stationery Products, Incense Sticks and
Safety Matches), Hotels,

During his tenure, the company has consolidated and
strengthened its diversified businesses and hotels,
paperboards and packaging. Deveshwar is the man who
guided ITCs successful foray into new growth areas
including agri business, retail and distribution and
branded FMCG goods. YC Deveshwar is a past
President of Confederation of Indian Industry and a
member of the Board of Governors of the Indian
School of Business.
His powerful strategy of creating multiple drivers of
growth has led ITC to become a US $42billion Market
Cap Company with a turnover of over $7billion.

Once, Mr. Deveshwar was asked, His Company is doing
lots of Corporate Social Responsibility Projects. Is this
because they feel guilty of being in Tobacco business?
He answered,
I didn’t start it.
If I don’t do, somebody else will.
If ITC was not in the cigarette business. Then people would
not stop Smoking
If we Ban it in India….Then people will start smuggling
which will even hit the State and Central Exchequer and
only the Smugglers would benefit and nobody else.
