PRINCIPAL’S TEAM REPORT SCHOOL COUNCIL The nominations received for School Council have filled the positions that became vacant at the end of the 2017 Council term. Judy Watts, Kim Slavin and David Stares will continue on Council into 2018. Heba Blair and Rebecca Hall have also been accepted onto Council as our student representatives. Meeting times for school council 2018 will be provided in the next newsletter. CAMPS We had students in Year 7 attending the Rubicon Outdoor Education Camp last week. Reports from stu-dents and staff were very positive and students were keen to meet new friends and build relationships. Year 8 students have their turn this week with their camp to Camp Manyung (Mt Elisa) on the Mornington Penin-sula. HOUSE OFFICIALS & SWIMMING CARNIVAL House Captains were elected last week in our first house meeting. The first sport event is the Swimming Sports to be held on Friday 23rd February. The back-up day, in case of poor weather conditions, will be Monday February 26th. We extend a warm invitation to all families and friends to come along and support their Houses. CHILD SAFE The school has a range of Child Safe measures to meet our commitment to Child Safe practices which in-clude preventing child abuse and identifying risks early, and removing and reducing these risks. The school has robust recruitment practices for all staff and volunteers. We have joint Child Safety Officers in our As-sistant Principal and Student Services coordinator, Brian D’Arcy and Jacinta Byers. All staff and volunteers who work with our students are required to have working with children checks.

Other documentation available on our website includes: Policy & Commitment Code of Conduct, Mandatory Reporting, Incident Report Recruiting Risk Management Declaration of Contact with Children and Families

PRIVACY INFORMATION The Department of Education has introduced a new privacy policy that replaces all previous school privacy policies. The policy is attached to this newsletter with links to further parent information on Department of Education School’s Privacy Policy. BUSHFIRE RESPONSE INFORMATION – CODE RED (CATASTROPHIC) DAYS Yea High School is committed to ensuring that our school community is as prepared as possible for the bushfire season. The safety of our students and staff is paramount. School Bus Services Several schools in the west of Murrindindi Shire have been placed on the Bushfire At-Risk Register these are: Flowerdale PS, Kinglake West PS, Middle Kinglake PS and Kinglake PS. The placement of these sites on the Bushfire At-Risk Register has a flow on impact on the West Murrindindi School Bus System. Bus routes passing through at-risk areas or routes operated by schools in at-risk locations will be closed on high-risk fire days. The impact on the school bus routes servicing Yea High School, Yea Primary School and the Sacred Heart Primary School will be as follows: On a Code Red Day NO school buses will run. On days other than Code Red school buses will not run if it is likely the route passes into, or through, a high risk area due to a going fire. The complete route will be cancelled. COMPASS LOGIN If you are a new family to our school, unable to logon or need your pass-word reset on Compass please contact the office as you could be missing important information.

COMMUNITY CONNECTIONS Students are reminded that permis-sion forms for the Healesville Sanc-tuary excursion are due back into the office. The excursion is taking place on Tuesday the 27th of February. If students have misplaced their per-mission form, they must seek a new one from the office. Students are visiting the sanctuary to learn about the community programs they run there and to hopefully get ideas for their own Community Ser-vice Projects, which they will be completing this semester.

SPORTS FOR SCHOOLS Coles is currently running a program called “Sports for Schools”. The program is based on customers receiv-ing vouchers when they shop at Coles. If customers spend $10 they get 1 voucher to put into a schools voucher collection box. At the end of the program, the school can use the vouchers to order sports equip-ment. This equipment will help support the main curriculum but also be available for the students to use at lunch times. If you normally shop at Coles or you know some who does we would appreciate if you could collect the vouchers. There will be a collection box in the front office and one at Coles in Seymour. Whilst we appreciate your support in this program we do also encourage families shopping locally to support the community.

PICKING UP & DROPPING OFF STUDENTS

For the safety of everyone we ask that students who travel to and from school via car are dropped off at the designated carpark out the front of the school grounds on Racecourse Road (marked with a red star)

Students are not to be picked up or dropped off in either carparks (marked with red cross-es) located on the school grounds or in the driveway. If students arrive or de-part during school hours they need to be escort-ed by a parent or guardian and go through the office (marked with a red dot) to be signed in or out so an exemption of this rule applies. If parents and guardians are driving in the school grounds we also ask that you adhere to the speedlimit of 10kms at all times.
