PRINCIPAL’S TEAM REPORT

School Facilities Improvement

Over the September school holidays the school improvement works will provide new computer space in the school library. A proportion of the library will be out of action prior the holidays and short time into Term 4 as the space is reorganised.

Working with Children

Changes to the Working with Children Act have been flagged. The definition of direct contact with children has been expanded to include oral, written or electronic communication. The second change is that anyone engaged in ‘child-related work’ must have a working with children’s check. This includes volunteers or a visitor who is supervised by a teacher.

Parent Opinion Survey 2017

Our school is conducting a survey to find out what parents think of our school. The Parent Opinion Survey is an annual survey offered by the Department of Education and Training. The survey information is sent out to a sample of randomly selected parents.

It is designed to assist our school in gaining an understanding of parents’ perception of school climate, stu-dent engagement and relationships with our parent community. Our school will use the survey results to help inform and direct future school planning and improvement strategies.

The survey will be conducted online by ORIMA Research Pty Ltd and only takes 15 minutes to complete. The survey can be accessed via desktop computer, laptop, tablet or mobile at any convenient time within the field-work period from Monday 7th August to Sunday 27th August.

The survey results will be reported back to our school at the end of September. Survey results will be commu-nicated to parents through annual reporting procedures.

Asthma, Diabetes, Anaphylaxis, Epilepsy

The school is required to have student health and management plans for students with any of these condi-tions. These plans need to be updated yearly.

If emergency medication has been prescribed the school must hold an Emergency Medication Management Plan signed by a doctor and provided by the family.

Absenteeism

Thank you to the parents who respond to our student absence alerts. The school has been working to put in place a system that tracks students as soon as possible on the day of a student absence from school. The school is working to ensure these reports are accurate.

NAPLAN

2017 NAPLAN results for students in Year7 and Year 9 are now at the school. Parents may pick up the stu-dent report from school or request that it be sent home; otherwise the school will post the report out with the student Term 3 interim reports.

really leaves you.' – Lili Wilkinson

describing The Bone Sparrow as 'a call to empathy and hope for refugees' and a novel that 'deserves to

be read by people of all ages, not just young adults'.
