Year 1 home learning W/C 15th June 2020
Hello to all Year 1 children and your families. We do hope you are all
keeping well. We are so very proud of you children, for all the lovely
learning you are doing at home and we have enjoyed finding out about
what you have been up to through the emails you send. We have also
enjoyed seeing many of you back in school and very much look forward to
a time when you are all back in school as a class, together.
English This week we continue to look at the story of ‘Handa’s Surprise’
by Eileen Browne.
You can view a video version of the story at https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XyIV_xYi0as
If your child is in school this week, English activities 1 – 3 are for their home learning
days. Activity 4 is a 1-2 day story writing activity which will be our ‘in school’ English
focus so Activity 4 resources attached are for home schoolers to complete at home.
Phonics focus This week in phonics we will be looking at er / ir / ur reading and spellings but feel
free to play games using all Phase 4 and 5 learning games.

Art
This week we will be investigating African patterns. Look at the
presentation below for some fascinating facts about African
patterns.
With permission the children might want to use the internet to look
more widely at other African patterns.
Children, you could try writing your name in patterns or make your
own pattern picture. You might also wish to decorate your Handa
story with African patterns around the edges.

As last week, if your child is in school on Monday and Tuesday please complete the
activity sheets 3 and 4 along with the Friday challenge. If your child is in school on
Thursday and Friday, please complete activity sheets 1, 2 and 3.
Friday’s Challenge:

How tall will the plant be on Sunday at 9am?
Possible extension
Some children might like to predict the plant's height at later stages during the week as well,
before working it out. They may well be surprised at how quickly it grows!
Possible support
Some learners will find a number line, number square or multiplication grid useful.
Don’t forget to complete your Mathletics activities and your TT Rock Stars challenges
too!
Please continue to email learning from home that the children are
proud of, and we will share some of our home and school activities
through our news.
Please send Bubble News to [email protected] and head it
with your child’s name and Class 1. Thank you.
