Year 10 Art

In year 9 students will have built upon previous learning and have been taught the skills, techniques, methods and processes necessary for studying art at GCSE level. The overall theme for year 9 is ‘Natural Form’ this runs throughout the year but is explored through different media and technqiues. In Year 10 students begin their GCSE coursework. This coursework makes up 60% of a students’ final grade. There are 4 assessment objects that must be fulfilled by students. Each Assessment Object covers crucial skills, techniques and knowledge and each is worth a maximum of 24 marks. (96 marks in total). All projects in year 10 are internally set (set by the art department).

Egg project. This project will investigate the functional properties of eggs. Identify different products that can be made with eggs. Students will understand the versatility of eggs in cooking. Bakery project : Investigations into sugar and raising agents in the baking of cakes Pupils will investigate the functions of sugar in cake making. They will find out about artificial sweeteners and know the difference between bulk and intense sweeteners. In Year 9 you will have learnt how to use “Creativity”, “Computer Aided Design” and “Craftsmanship” to design and make quality, creative projects. You will have also started your coursework for your GCSE AQA Product Design. In year 10 you will continue your controlled assessment and take your project to a finished shop quality item.

Western Classical Music: We will be looking at the various features of music composed in the 18th and 19th Centuries. We will particularly focus on Mozart’s ‘Eine Kleine Nachtmusik’- Movement 3. We will explore the structure, harmony, melody, rhythm and use of instruments. Students will be expected to learn all the musical language and terminology associated with this topic.

Christianity Students will study the first of two religions during year 10. They need to be aware that Christianity is one of the main religions in Great Britain and understand the beliefs, teachings and practices of Christianity. Students will study two aspects, beliefs and practices. In beliefs students will study the key beliefs about the nature of God and ideas about afterlife. They will also look at Christian beliefs about Jesus and salvation. For the topic on practices students will learn about different aspects of worship and the role and importance of different festivals during the Christian year.

For homework during these topics students will carry out a range of different tasks. Some of these tasks will ask student to research further areas they have studied, while other tasks will ask students to revise for tests and assessments in lessons.
