Modern Foreign Languages We aim to finish the content by the end of the year and use Year 11 to revise the 4 skills

ready for the reading, writing, speaking and listening exams.

The exam board is EDEXCEL and the school shop stocks revision guides.

Vocabulary learning should be done on a regular basis at home, using the vocabulary books

provided this term. It is vital that students have both a good grasp of grammar and wide

vocabulary bank to perform well in the exam.

Mobile phone APPS such as Duo lingo are useful for this. Watching films, reading MFL books

(even if some are in English) and finding out about the country will be of great benefit.

GCSE Drama

WJEC/EDUQAS GCSE DRAMA

Year 10

Autumn term - Component 1: Exploring the text DNA as a performer, director and designer

Spring term - Component 2: Mock exam of group performance

Summer term - Component 3: Initial devising process and portfolio

Year 11

Autumn term - Completion of Component 1: internally assessed performance examination, written

portfolio and evaluation

Spring term - Completion of Component 2: externally assessed performance examination

Summer term - Completion of Component 3: written examination

PERFORMING ARTS

Year 10

Autumn term: Component 1 & 2 Mock: studying and practically exploring a musical play. Researching the play and original performance. Rehearsing and performing an extract. Spring term – Summer term: Component 1 & 2 combined: Coursework-Studying and practically exploring 3 contrasting

musical theatre shows/styles. Researching & understanding the development of the shows.

Developing performance skills. Rehearsing and performing extracts

Nearing the performances for Component 2 & 3 there will need to be a commitment of at least two hours per week, outside of lessons, to rehearse. Some after school and some on the weekend.

MUSIC

ART

Year 10 students’ are working on the project title ‘Fantastic and Strange.’ They will complete four projects modules each with personalised outcomes. This will culminate in a personal project final piece which can be in any media. Students should be completing at least 1-2hrs homework per week to achieve a grade 4/5. They should aim to complete at least one A4 sketchbook over the year. Making the grade: Teachers are available after school for 1:1 or group help: BA2: Tuesday night 3:30 - 4:45: KS4/5

BA4: Wednesday night 3:30 - 4:45: KS4/5

BA3: Thursday night 3:30 - 4:45: KS4/5

The Art department is open every lunchtime: Year 10: G&T: Lunchtime enrichment will run on Tuesday Lunchtimes in BA3 with Mr Eveson. This is aimed at students wishing to do art at a higher level and will also enhance their GCSE grade.

Technologies

The VTCT Level 2 Certificate in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy (VRQ)

The Year 10’s are studying a L2 Certificate GCSE (VRQ) in Hairdressing and Beauty Therapy.

The content of the course consists of 4 units in total;

Hair and Beauty Science

Responding to a hair and beauty brief

Hair and beauty research project

1 written exam

The exam input was delivered in Year 9 ready for them to sit in January of Year 10. They will get 2

attempts for each unit and the exam.

The qualification is A* - C GCSE grade only. Practical skills are taught on the course however pupils

are not assessment on these practical skills.

WJEC Construction and the Built Environment

Students will undertake three practical tasks and produce a portfolio of evidence to show their

knowledge of the skills, tools, materials, health and safety and the sequencing of procedures used to

complete the tasks.

Carpentry and Joinery requires the construction of a timber frame using four different types of joint.

Bricklaying requires the construction of a cavity wall with a decorative diamond pattern.

Painting and Decorating requires an area of wall to be prepared, painted and wallpapered.

Health and Safety and safe working practises are an important part of the course and will be taught

and used throughout the course.

Health and Safety will be included in all practical task portfolios and will culminate in an externally

assessed, computer based, multiple choice examination.

Theoretical Building Project

Job roles:

Students will investigate and produce portfolio evidence about the responsibilities linked to different

jobs, careers and the skills required to complete a theoretical construction project.

Quantifying:

Students will learn the techniques and produce portfolio evidence of how to quantify resources,

(materials and time), to complete a theoretical construction project.

Scheduling:

Students will learn how to schedule construction work procedures to efficiently complete a

theoretical construction project. Portfolio evidence would take the form of Method Statements,

Flow Charts and Gant Charts.

History There is a lot of content in the new History GCSE, all tested in three exams in Year 11 (controlled assessment has gone). We are currently on our third of five units. We will have the course taught by Christmas of Year 11.

PE Key dates:

October ½ term – First draft of PEP (coursework completed) Deadlines to meet up until Oct ½ term, if these are not met then mandatory intervention at break/lunch to complete this. November assessment week – Exam covering all topics completed so far. Targeted Intervention for TMG -3 with retest before Christmas. Christmas – Coursework final hand in date. February (TBC) – Assessment on completed Paper 1 element of the course.

July – Exam assessment on content covered on paper 2 element

Video Evidence – record your son/ daughter playing/ competing in sports (especially skiing/

R.E.

In Year 9 students learnt about Hinduism and Christianity. This Year they cover ethical

issues, linking back to information gained in Year 9. Their primary resource will be their Year

9 and 10 exercise books. Revision materials will be available soon.
