1826 - 1849• What significant things happened to move

J. Nicephore Nicepce: produced first successful photography the summer of 1826.

Louis Daguerre invented a new process he called daguerrotype in 1839, which significantly reduced exposure time and created a lasting result but only produced a single image.

• What did they do to influence or change the process of photography?

Niepce could not draw well, so he started to experiment with engravings on stones and coated it with a varnish then discovered how to create permanent a picture. He called the process to crate a permanent picture "Heliography".

Daguerre discovered how to reduce exposure time and create a long lasting result with a process called daguerrotype.

William Talbot created the calotype method that included the creation of paper negative.

• What photography technology was created during this time frame?

Heliography: or sun writing, this is because pictures were created by the light of the sun. A copper plate was printed on and covered with a gelatin.

Daguerrotype reduced exposure time.

Calotype created paper negatives and allowed more than one copy to be printed at a time.

1850 - 1880

• What significant things happened to move photography forward during this time frame?

The collodion method was introduced in 1851. This process involved fixing a substance known as gun cotton onto a glass plate, allowing for an even shorter exposure time (3-5 minutes), as well as a clearer image.

By 1867 a dry glass plate was invented, reducing the inconvenience of the wet collodion method.

• What did they do to influence or change the process of photography?

Prepared glass plates could be purchased, eliminating the need to fool with chemicals. In 1878, new advances decreased the exposure time to 1/25th of a second, allowing moving objects to be photographed and lessening the need for a tripod.

The collodian process used chemicals and glass plates to create a photo. The collodian dry plate camera photography was created.

• What were new conceptual uses of photography that were developed in this time frame?

The collodian process allowed shorter exposure time as well as a clear image but this involved the use of wet chemicals. By 1867 dry glass plates were used to create the image.

1881 - 1920

• What significant things happened to move photography forward during this time frame?

Louis Le Prince started a school of applied art, enabling him to well renowned for his work in fixing color photography on to metal and pottery.

The Lumière brothers were not the first inventors to develop techniques to create motion pictures, they are often credited as one of the first inventors of the technology for Cinema as a mass medium and are among the first who understood how to use it.

Louis Le Prince was renowned for fixing colour photography on metal and pottery.

Lumière brothers discovered a new dry plate process and also invented their own device combining camera with printer and projector which they called cinèmatographe.

Cinema film was created during this timeframe as well as a new dry plate process.

Transferring colour photos onto metal and pottery was also discovered.

• What were new conceptual uses of photography that were developed in this time frame?

The concept of using photography to make cinema film was developed.

Also the concept of the invention of putting colored images on metal and pottery was discovered.

The introduction of the Kodachrome film and the availability for 16mm home movies and 35mm slides.

New development in the first instant camera.

The first 35mm camera was invented in 1925.

• What did they do to influence or change the process of photography?

Photographers were now able to take many pictures and editors could choose from many pictures and add captions.

Edgerton took images and recorded them onto a motion picture camera converted to shoot at fast speed.

Flash photography was invented during this time frame.

Polaroid Land cameras were invented by Edwin Land, where instant photos were taken.

Photojournalism was created as photographers could journalise their photos and add captions.

• What significant things happened to move photography forward during this time frame?

Colored film was introduced.

The first digital camera is developed.

The first consumer camcorder is released.

The first camera phones.

• Who are some of the most significant people/figures influencing progress at this time?

• What did they do to influence or change the process of photography?

In this time frame they developed the first camera with auto focus, so images would be a lot more clearer and could be saved into a floppy disk.

They polarised 3D film so images would be clearer and 3 dimensional making film more real.

Film and lens technology was used in this time frame.

SLR cameras and instant Kodak cameras were a new technology that were affordable during this time.

• What were new conceptual uses of photography that were developed in this time frame?

The first digital camera was created.

They also introduced coloured film which introduced the concept of watching 3D movies/film.

A British computer scientist Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web and was the first person to publish a photo on the web.

Adobe Photoshop is a raster graphics editor developed and published by Adobe Systems for Windows and OS X. Photoshop was created by Thomas and John Knoll.

• Who are some of the most significant people/figures influencing progress at this time?

• What did they do to influence or change the process of photography?

In this time frame they released Adobe Photoshop which helped photographers edit their images.

Tim Berners-Lee invented the world wide web, so photographers can publish their photographs online for people to view. Tim Berners-Lee was the first person to publish a image on the web.

• What photography technology was created during this time frame?

During this time frame the World Wide Web was created by Tim Berners-Lee. Also Thomas and John Knoll released Adobe Photoshop. Web photography technology was created.

• What were new conceptual uses of photography that were developed in this time frame?

Being able to create images on the web was a new conceptual use in photography and being able to edit your images in Adobe Photoshop were new conceptual users.
