Sixth Form curriculum

New curriculum specifications in English literature, English language, biology, chemistry, physics, psychology, art, business studies, computing, economics and history.

AS and A Level de-coupled and the AS (if cashed in) is worth 40% of the A Level.

Old curriculum specifications in all other subject areas (MFL, geography, RS, drama, music, maths).

Year 12 Exams

Students will sit exams in all subjects in the summer of 2016.

For those subjects on the old curriculum, these exams will be worth 50% of the A Level and the grade will contribute to the final A Level grade.

For those subjects on the new curriculum, there are two routes;

If a student is ‘dropping’ the subject after AS study, this grade will be cashed in and the student will gain an AS Qualification in this subject. This will be worth 40% of a new A Level

If a student continues the subject into A Level study, this grade will not be cashed in and will not contribute to the overall A Level grade.

Year 12 Exams

Many students will be studying a ‘mixed’ curriculum; some of the old style A Levels, and some of the new.

We are maintaining our decision to enter students for all exams in the summer of 2016.

Exams begin on the 16th May, 2016 and the final exam on the common timetable for AS is 10th June.

Results day is 18th August, 2016.

Dropped Subjects

In March of Y12, we will ask all students to indicate which subject they intend to ‘drop’ as they move into Y13.

This allows us to make decisions regarding timetabling, staffing and exam entries.

This decision will be imperative and it is highly likely that the students will have to maintain this decision as they move into Y13.

We will discuss this with students from January and provide helpful advice and consideration so they girls can make an informed decision.

Statistically Estimated Grades

All students provided with SEGs within the next few weeks.

These are set by external agencies are based on GCSE results and combination of subject choices.

Students are encouraged to meet, or go beyond these SEGs at the end of AS and A Level study.

We will be doing work with Y12 in the next few weeks regarding this process and how the grades are allocated.

• 10 hours extra study expected per subject per 10 day cycle

• Active role in lessons is vital

“We welcome the introduction of the Extended Project and would encourage you to undertake one as it will develop your independent study and research skills and ease the transition from school / college to higher education.”

University of Cambridge

“If you have undertaken the Extended Project, this may be taken into account if you do not achieve the conditions of your offer.”

London School of Economics

“We have an increasingly compelling evidence base that students who did well at EPQ settle in well to their studies, we are keen to see more of them.”
