Think about how your dragon machine might move. Can you come up with 10 verbs to describe its movement? Remember, a verb is a word that expresses an action, a happening, a process or a state. Some people think of it as a ‘doing’ or ‘being’ word. Challenge: Can you write your verbs in the present tense and the past tense. Remember, most of the time we add the suffix –ed to make the past tense, but not for all verbs (e.g. fly -> flew, not flied).

Maths 1.

2.  Billy has 34 football cards. Max has 22 more. How many cards has Max got? 34 + 22 = 56 This could be solved by drawing Base 10, using the column method or adding mentally.

3.  Is the answer correct? If not, can you correct it and explain where they went wrong?

12 + 52 = 74 The answer is incorrect. It should be 12 + 52 = 64. They have added the tens incorrectly.

4.  Kalim is saving up to buy a toy dinosaur. He needs £14. He has £12. How much more does he need to save? £2

5.  What number is the arrow pointing to? 30

Example sentences:

The princess was brave when the evil queen tried to

defeat her.

George was brave to travel to the wilderness on his own.

Daily Reading Read a book on Bug Club

and answer the quiz questions.

The children should recall what a verb is and come up with some ideas for verbs to describe movement. If they are struggling for ideas, they could use an online thesaurus. For the challenge, some examples could be: clunks clunked glides glided

English – Grammar After you have made your dragon machine, write an

explanation of how it works. Can you include some of our subordinating conjunctions (when, if, that, because) in your explanation sentences? You could also use your expanded noun phrases from Monday! Example: Its strong, green wings beat at 120 miles per hour so that dragons can be transported at speed.

Think about how you will attach different parts. Which materials

could you use to stick things together? Which tools will you

use to cut your materials?

The children may solve this with trial and error, but the best way of solving this is by looking at which ones add up to make 5 or a number with a 5 in the ones place. 18 + 37 = 55

Come up with your own story about a child who finds dragons and who designs and invents their own device. It could be a dragon catcher or dragon tidy-upper!

Word of the Day essential

Something that is essential is extremely important or

absolutely necessary to a particular situation, subject

or activity. Write a sentence using the word of the day and the

subordinating conjunction because.

Daily Reading Read a book on Bug Club

and answer the quiz questions.

Times Tables Practise your times

tables on Maths Shed.

Art – Photography Choose a colour.

As you are

walking around, look out for that colour and take as many photos

as you can of your chosen

colour.

Your colour may just feature as part of an object or be

the whole thing.

Create a story map of your new story

idea. Here is one for The Dragon

Machine that you can change for your own story. You can

use the template on the next page or plan in your book.

Maths 1.  What will be the next 3 shapes in the pattern?

2.  Complete the sentence: I know half of 6 is 3 , so half of 60 is 30 .

3.  How much more do I need to make £1? There is 82p, so 100p – 82p = 18p. The children could solve this by drawing coins up to 100p or by doing a subtraction.

4.  Count back in 10s. 88, 78, 68, 58, 48, 38

5.  There are 16 cars in a car park. ¼ of them are white. How many are not white? ¾ are not white. ¾ of 16 is 12.

18.6.20 ANSWERS

The plan could be done by using pictures, words or sentences. It shouldn’t be the whole story written into boxes. It might be helpful to tell the story out loud using the plan so that the children have it in their heads before writing the story tomorrow.

Food is essential to humans because it helps us to

survive.

The work doctors do is essential because it helps to

keep people healthy.

English – Writing

Using your plan from yesterday, write your own story

or, when, if, that, because) •  Time adverbs (One day,

later on, next, then, soon)

Remember to use: •  Capital letters and the

correct end of sentence punctuation.

•  Finger spaces •  Neat handwriting

When you have finished your story, read through to make sure it makes sense and edit your work to make sure it is

punctuated correctly.
