What are we learning and what will I be assessed on? The Blues: We will look at the context of the Blues and how It developed. We will learn about the musical features of the blues and learn to perform and record a 12 bar blues.

Homework: Students can practise blues chord sequences and scale on keyboards at home or in school. There may be a variety homework associated with the slave trade, slave songs, blues artists and how blues influences other genres.

Students will examine the key elements of Dance music particularly focussing of riff, texture, layering, chords and technology. African Drumming An exploration of African drumming from West Africa through practical sessions on Djembe and other African percussion. Continuous assessment and feedback on individual and group performances and composition work.

Homework: Learn key words for this topic such as Poly-rhythm, Ostinato, Master Drummer. Assessment: Students will be assessed on performances in group work in class. Teacher and peer feedback.

We will look at how composers create music to enhance the mood of film, drama, documentaries and other moving image programmes. Students will have the opportunity to create music for their own choice of video clips and also learn how to exploit technology to enhance their compositions.

Notes:- All students will study the same content but timings will vary dependant on facility availability. Standardisation dates will also vary but will occur three times
